CJOB will prolly hit a 10 rating next time out. The programs are stale, the personalities and announcers are either too green or veteran mopes who've washed out elsewhere. TSN 1290 does a great service in both professional and amateur sports. Hussler & Lawless is obviously their anchor program - Lawless does some amazing work breaking stories and has a great rolodex of guests he calls upon when issues break. His only problem is he has no problem patting himself on the back whenever he does a good job. Hussler is a great little guy who has blossomed into a very good radio host. Westwood and Paul Edmunds are good in the a.m. with the obvious problem of Matt Leibl, a 28 yr old ego freak with limited media experience. Rick Ralph does a nice job in the 11 to 3 spot (the first two hours repeat themselves) but Ralph never takes open-line calls and goes 15 to 20 minutes sometimes without taking a breath. In other words, he's verbose. The problem at TSN is they abandon the party on weekends, relying on repeat golf shows, Bluejay broadcasts, Jim Rome, prior week hi-lites, etc. Their only local programming is a group of young rogues called The Illegal Curve, where these guys parse the game of hockey more than anyone could imagine. Sometimes its very good, sometimes its awful. IN Calgary it's the same on the Fan 960. Totally abandon local programming It's ESPN all day Sat & Sunday. Who really wants to listen to that? Talking MLB, NFL OTA's & NBA playoffs now. Very little NHL. Sports talk is cheap filler to me. TSN isn't committed to local cities in any market except Toronto.

Rookie Camp Day 3 (Reports and Discussion)
iso_55 replied to M.O.A.B.'s topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Thought you guys would be interested to see how the Stamps treat their rookie camp .I guess when you are perennial winners & a veteran team you can afford to do this as only a handfulof rookies will actually make the team. If the Bombers did this I'd be concerned as rookie camp is important & the guys need their reps before main camp starts. Today, the Stamps shut down their rookie camp & all of the players & the Stamps coaches went to Drumheller, AB (where the dinosaurs used to roam) giving a football skills camp to kids in the area. There were over 120 eager players who took part. Great way for the team to get out into the community & give back to minor football in Southern AB. But like I said, if this was the Bombers I'd be concerned that the timing was bad for the team. We'd have to win a lot before I'd feel comfortable as a fan doing something like that. http://www.stampeders.com/article/rookies-spend-day-in-drumheller -
I've had some testy situations here with Mike at times but I respect the heck out of the guy as he never banned me when we had our spats. At times, I probably deserved it as I was out of line yet I never even was threatened with any kind of punitive action from him or any of the mods here. So, thanks Mike. I appreciate your patience. Hopefully, we can go on from here & get along better. The mod team here does a great job. I've said this once & I'll say it again there is a mod at OB.com that is absolutely killing that place. He's allowed to carry on the way he does. I'm glad he's there & I'm here.

Kind of a conflict of interest when the RRCC Board is made up of competing broadcasters. How dumb is that?

Madani: CFLPA Recommends Strike Vote To Members

Why not just let teams dress 46 guys if they want and scrap the reserve list altogether? Only added cost would be travel for road games, but if that's an issue, a team can travel with less than 46. Injuries. The more players they can dress the better. I'd like it if they could dress 8 OL every game. -

The one thing I don't like about this place is the constant bitching about the media whether it's local or national. I get people don't like Paul friesen or Wiecek. I just get sick of hearing about it everytime they post a story some of you don't like. Now, today it's *****, *****, ***** about Madani. -

Because nobody likes a Arash in the summertime…. can be so annoying. …… ……. It's just his style. He is very well connected to the CFL. He could have, like 90% of the national sports media in this country, chosen to ignore the CFL & follow MLB, NFL, NBA & the NHL. Be grateful he feels the CFL is important., -
CJOB has always been for the older crowd. Like my parents when I was growing up in the 60's & 70's. CKY & CKRC were cool while CJOB was not. They had George McCloy with the "Shut Ins" program. When I was a kid I had no idea what a shut in was. Just some sappy violin music. And McCloy reading messages to people. That was riveting radio,I tell ya. Then there was "Beefs & Bouquets" in the weekday morning show with Red "Good Morning, Good Morning" Alex, the original ***** fest. Remember that, Nate?

is there a more unlikable member of the media? I don't mind Madani. Why is it people here to have a hate on for someone in the media everyday? -
I don't listen much to CJOB except online occasionally. I can't really judge if it's better or worse than the 80's. I just know back then it was frustrating to listen to. I used to scream four letter words at the radio when "Let's take a break" was said!! You have to understand that The Football Hotline was the only true sports show on the radio in Winnipeg back then. No 24/7 sports talk radio & even CJOB didn't do a lot of Bomber coverage. There wasn't even a Winnipeg Jets call in show wghich in today's world seems absolutely insane. Just The Football Hotline. I do remember the 2 minute radio comments Jack Matheson used to make. For me, it was a must hear on CJOB. "Furnasman fires up Jack Matheson, Sports Editor of the Winnipeg Tribune..." Jack did two different comments EVERYDAY five days a week on OB for probably 15 years... Two completely different topics one at 8:45 am, 12:45 pm & then a different comment at 5:45 pm. The man was just a prolific sportswriter & sportscaster. He also did 3 or four columns in the Trib every week as well as being the Trib beat writer for the Bombers & Sports Editor as well. A brilliant commentator. Ninety five per cent of the time he was bang on, also. On radio & in the paper.

The commercial thing goes back to the 80's when I used to listen to the Football Hotline. They'd do an a hour & a half show & after a 5 minute newscast at the top of the hour , there'd be two minutes of commercials followed by the intro to the show some small talk until quarter past & then over 5 minutes straight of commercials. They'd come back at twenty past the hour to discuss & take some calls to 25 minutes past the hour & then five minutes of commercials to the bottom of the hour where they did the freaking news & on & on & on. So,it's been going on for a long, long time. Bob Irving or Les Lazaruk did the shows & all you'd hear was their four word phrase, "Let's take a break" & truly I wanted to break my radio in frustration.

Good point. That was my first thought as well. Are people sitting there going to have people walking by bumping into them all the time? I'd just as soon sit in the stands than the concourse.

What did Nate mean when he said Hal Anderson crossed Charles Adler & lost even though he had high ratings?

Can someone snap a pic or 2 so I can see them?

Rookie Camp Day 3 (Reports and Discussion)

Just an aside, what are these new loges I see on the Bomber stadium diagram in the corners on the main concourse? They weren't there last season. -
Bombers negotiate Transit game day discount

Two politicians my father truly liked & admired. Duff Roblin & John Diefenbaker. Even though he was a staunch conservative & believe me he was, he didn't like Robert Stanfield as he thought he was wishy washy & he hated Dalton Camp. He despised Camp for putting the knives in Dief's back & making sure Roblin lost to Stanfield in the PC leadership election in 1967. Backroom party politics & betrayal he used to say. I heard about Camp all the time growing up. Everytime the CBC interviewed the guy or had him on television as a political expert he'd start muttering. But man, he sure loved Duff Roblin. -

Mike, all I can say about fans comments on twitter is that people are emotional & angry. It's just a normal reaction. The owners & players are always saying how much they respect the fans yet to most of us we know it's a lie just to gain favour. There's a fan in Calgary who wants to organize a fan demonstration at McMahon Stadium on the first day of camp to let the players & owners know that without the fans the CFL is nothing. Don't know if it will happen but the idea has some merit. Be nice if that could be done at every training camp across the CFL to send out a message to both sides. -

Sellinger is indeed the worst piece of human vermin ever to grace the premier's office in Manitoba. Followed closely by Garry Filmon, Sir Rodmund Roblin & Howard Pawley. He's currently piecing together his exit plan and will not run in the next election. That big huge stork lady Teresa Oswald will be confronting Andrew Swan and Hunchback Howard for the NDP leadership fairly soon. Roblin brought us Duff's Ditch & Winnipeggers should be thanking him every spring. I think he was a very good Premier. Now, Walter Weir, the ex Highways Minister who replaced him& called a snap election in 69 because the NDP had just elected Ed Schreyer as leader & he thought was going to catch them flat footed. Weir was a hapless moron. Nate is talking about Duff's grandfather though. He was premier from 1900 - 1915. Holy crap, that was over a century ago. Who cares?? Let's just say the good Roblin cancelled out the bad Roblin & we broke even. Okay, we can go home now. -

What? I just mean hes a known liar. He publicly flip flopped on putting the Goldeyes into a blind trust. Thus he lied. Thats all i meant. Right? ;-) Just sayin', man. 17to85 feels anyone on the internet can say what they want about anyone with impunity. I happen to think there's a line & if it's crossed could be trouble. Not saying you did cross the line but why take the risk? Maybe because I was threatened once with a lawsuit about 10 years ago. Not worth the worry or hassle. A very good point. A few months ago Brian Burke was taking a couple of posters on some Maple Leafs site to court for libel when they claimed he had an affair with a well-known media personality in Toronto. Like I said before, I was threatened with a lawsuit once about a decade ago for something I allegedly said (that I didn't) & even though the so called injured party threatened me & I received a very intimidating letter from his lawyer, nothing ever came of it. But I had to seek legal advice & it wasn't very pleasant. -

Likely contract directly with school bus companies to run the park and ride. Transit was basically a middle man last year. There were a lot of Winnipeg Transit buses used too. They didn't just charter private buses for the Bombers. They'll never be able to provide the volume of service they did in 2013 without Transit being involved. It will be more like the first pre-season game before they brought in far more buses. I know we discussed this before but the golf course needs to be made into a parking lot. There needs to be more parking available on site. Is it tough to get in & out of IGF? Probably no worse than getting out of Canad Inns onto St James Street or Ellice Avenue. Of course, I've heard that the U of M has some kind of grandiose development plan for the golf course that may never get off the ground. Better hope there's not another fiasco with traffic. -

Washington Redskins Urged to Change Team Name
iso_55 replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in General Discussion
HUGE difference between offending crazy people and offending an entire ethnicity based on a racial slur. There is silly offense and legitimate. Quite frankly, I know for a fact you're way smarter than that. People could find offense to "Flames" or "Oilers" or "Bombers" or anything really. But the debate CAN'T be that there will always be someone taking offense to something so the MOST offensive things should remain. Its like Brandon's argument that the Indians logo is offensive so we should keep the Redskins. Huh? In fact, if someone thinks the Indians' logo is offensive then they absolutely can't support keeping the Redskins name. Bottom line, the question is about degrees of offense or if you or me personally are offended. its the fact "Redskins" IS a recognized racial slur that is used 99% of the time as a derogatory, insulting, racist slur. the question is not "is Redskins a slur". It is. Do you disagree that Redskins is a racist derogatory remark, irregardless of its use as the team name of the Washington franchise? I think it is DEFINETLY derogatory. I don't know if it is racist, though. I think that depends on how it is being used. -

I remember 1982 in the NFL when the players went on strike & the NFL used replacement players. The big name players like Boomer Esiason & Eric Dickerson came back on their own defying their own union & then a stream of veterans came back after a couple of week or so. The NFLPA collapsed. Took them nearly 20 years to get any power back.
