Bombers Reject Rabb for Board of Directors
iso_55 replied to Nasty Nate's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I think what Kelly did was unconscionable & cowardly. Do you mean that they were given the heads up he was going to be charged by the cops? Or that they were able to see the future from 2500 klms away? -
Lawless: Profit of $3M for Bombers in 2013

How do you know the Bombers had a choice? The feds could easily have said no like they did to the Riders & QC with their arena. They built the stadium on the campus so the feds could say they're not funding pro sports but university instead. Harper's not into funding pro sports teams, doncha know? All total bullshit. I hate politicians. Most of them are cheaters, crooks & liars. -
Bombers Reject Rabb for Board of Directors

Jacquie, I've lived in Calgary for nearly 25 years. I follow the Stamps quite closely here & there were no rumours that Bauer was coming to the Stamps before he resigned. Maybe the CBC in Winnipeg felt that there was rampant speculation he was going to the Stamps but out here there were no stories. Besides, he didn't leave the Bombers & go right to Calgary. He was hired weeks or even months later as I recall. If he had a job with the Stamps to go to he didn't do it right away. If there were stories in the Calgary media BEFORE he resigned, I don't recall them. Most Stamps fans & especially the ones at the old Go Stamps Go (now CFL Horseman) site were very concerned that Bauer would gain control of the team from Huff had Hellard stayed as owner. Stamps fans at that time couldn't understand Bauer's hiring given all that happened in Winnipeg under his tenure.... The firing of Ritchie, Daly, Berry & the hiring of Kelly, the subsequent firing of Kelly by the Bomber board & Bauer's sudden departure from the Bombers all in one day. It was not a popular hire here in Calgary. There was a real concern that if Bauer ever got control of the entire team like he had in Winnipeg, he'd run the Stamps into the ground. Especially the comment he made after he joined the Stamps that he believed in Mike Kelly & would hire him again if he had the chance. Luckily, he stayed on the business side as we thought eventually there'd be a power struggle between Huff & Bauer. I think a lot of fans heaved blew a sigh of relief when Bauer left the Stampeders organization. Personally, I hope he never gets any kind of control with the Bombers again. Others may feel differently but I think it's best he stay away. -

Maybe they'd be willing to give it up. -

Also, the Bombers weren't looking ast having to fund 45% of the cost of the stadium until Asper bailed. He put the team in a financial bind. This was going to be Asper's baby, the city, province & feds. Not the team. So, the talk about the Bombers not having a business plan to finance the stadium? Well, they didn't think they needed one. -

Apples & oranges. What's next comparing the business plan of the Brooklyn Nets to the Bombers because they built themselves a new arena? -

One thing you forgot to mention. Canada's richest man owns the Jets. They are a much wealthier organization than the Blue Bombers are. The Bomber Board runs the team as it is "publicly owned" which is more of a misnomer than truth. There's no rich sugar daddy owning the Bombers with billions backing the team. The Bombers have absolutely no money so they took whatever deal they could get to get a new stadium built after David Asper bailed. Asper put the team in the situation it's in now. I have a real problem with the man being on the Bomber BOD but that's what you get with a publicly owned team. he should have never been allowed tocome back & serve on the Board. However, members like Asper are appointed because he has buddies already there. You already said the Jets owners had $90 million to throw into the MTS Centre. That would wipe the slate clean for the Bombers, wouldn't it? I wish the Bombers would be sold to get rid of this corporate welfare stigma attached to the team. -

Didn't taxpayers pay for Osborne Stadium, Winnipeg Stadium, the Pan Am baseball stadium, MTS Centre & Arena? I don't know why people think that 2014 is different from 1952 or 1934? Put those projects in today's dollars & how much would they be? We got a pretty fricking nice stadium for just over $200 million. Compare what's been built in BC for half a billion, Montreal, Hamilton & Ottawa. I think it's a great deal. -

Bauman is a POS receiver. I saw what he did in Calgary when he got on the field with the Stamps between injuries & it was virtually nothing. He also was paid a 6 figure salary. You think the Bombers should pay Bauman that? I don't. He's a CFL draft bust now with 3 teams. We'd have been better off to keep Jade Etienne if we sign this dude. -

Is that before or after they pay their $1 million dollar debt payment? -
I don't like that scenario you describe.

He'll get beat up trying to play big & that's the problem. The body just breaks down as the bumps pile on. Eighteen games is a killer schedule. The NFLPA wants no part of it because of injuries.

My mom (who passed away in 1985) was a real wrestling fan. She loved the AWA & for years Saturday nights at my parents house meant dinner was served & finished before 6 pm so she could watch the weekly AWA show on CKND. One time my brother took her to the Winnipeg Arena in 1982 when she was in her early 70's. He wasn't even a fan but he knew she enjoyed wrestling so as a gift he bought 2 tickets to the AWA match that day. They were sitting in the floor seating where the wrestlers walk from the dressing room to the ring. Well, there's my older brother & my mom at the Arena. Bobby Heenan & Nick Bockwinkel are walking to the ring. My brother told me that there was a ton of boos coming from the crowd. My mom hated Heenan because when he was being interviewed by Gene Okerlund he'd always have something disparaging to say about Winnipeg & she couldn't stand it. Well, Bobby The Brain & Bockwinkel are playing up their reception from the crowd. My brother said that my mom got so worked up she got out of her seat, ran into the aisle, started yelling "Weasel, Weasel" & belted Heenan with her purse. Bockwinkel swung around with his fist in a boxing pose, saw my mom, said something nasty to her & they continued to walk to the ring. My brother told me for an instant he didn't know what he'd have done if Bockwinkel had pushed her or something. My brother is all of 5'7 & 145 lbs. When my brother told me what happened I must've laughed for 5 minutes. I said, "Mom did that? Really??? No effin way!!" Then my dad told me his dream always was to be a professional wrestler. My father, all 5'10 & 135 lbs of him. Wow! I bet a lot of fans must've thought that this was some kind of AWA plant in the crowd. An old granny hitting the bad guy with her purse. But it was real. We tried for years to explain to my mom that wrestling wasn't real. The bumps are too real sometimes as guys get hurt but the matches are planned out. She would have none of that. To her, wrestling was totally real. And she loved it.

She's extremely lucky it was a small shark. In Northern Alberta Wednesday a large male Black Bear dragged a Suncor worker away even though 7 of her colleagues were there & couldn't stop him. The bear killed the 36 year old woman. The Suncor workers did not have bear spray. RCMP shot the bear a few hours later. Very tragic story.

Mini Mack Herron, a chronic drug user went on to a lifetime of drug related crimes in Chicago. I think he's spent more time in jail since hid football days than out. Talk about a wasted life. -

The laws may be silly, but this is not about the law. It is about an athlete who has a chance to make a major career advancement and threw it away. His agent and common sense would have told Sheets that he should be on his best behaviour, but his arrogance and/or stupidity overruled that. And your assertion that pot opens up the mind is very questionable. It produces a perception that competence is enhanced but it is actually the opposite. How many times have you heard someone say that a few drinks makes him a better driver? How many times you heard "I was so stoned I couldn't drive right..." ? Hell, I'd even say a tired driver is a more scary driver then a one baked off some weed.. So, you condone a driver who is impaired using weed but not one who had too much to drink? What's the diff? They both are stupid to get behind the wheel. Sheets was puffing away behind the wheel which to me is like someone drinking an open bottle of beer while driving. Both deserve to be behind bars. -
Oh God don't be so naive.University educated man intent on playing in the CFL & he claims he didn't know that what he was taking (Stanozolol) was a steroid? Who is being naive here? I think it's you Atomic. You misunderstood. I don't believe that Quinn Smith didn't know exactly what he was doing. My comment was referring to Duressler47's apparent shock at the fact that some athletes use steroids and other drugs. It is incredibly widespread. Duressler (to me) was stating that it seems like more athletes today are using illegal drugs like marijuana or performance enhancing drugs like Stanozolol. I think his comments are directed towards them either not being very bright or that they are cheaters. Hence the integrity comment. Some will get caught & others won't but why take the chance?
