Virtual View Of McMahon Stadium & ST Price Comparison
iso_55 replied to iso_55's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The exact same thing has been said in Calgary. The end zone seats sit empty game after game at $32 a seat so why not reduce the price & sell them for $15??? Half of something is better than nothing at all. But the Stamps don't listen. I guess they count on those Rider & Eskimo games for people to buy them. There is a certain arrogance from a team that knows nothing but winning seasons for the better part of 2 decades. -
Virtual View Of McMahon Stadium & ST Price Comparison

That virtual chart is misleading. That is for season ticket prices only. If you weren't a season ticket holder & wanted to buy a game day ticket in the cheap seats last season would have cost you $32. If you ever watch a Stamps home game, the seats not sold out are the cheap seats in the upper 4 corners from the 15 yard line into the end zones. Fans have rightfully complained here those seats are way overpriced but the Stamps refuse to adjust them to make them worthwhile buying to someone who just decides at the last minute they want to go to a game. And, just so you know the Stamps have been under some criticism for raising their ticket prices substantially the past 5 years, something like 45%. So, combine yearly hefty ticket increases & an old stadium you get what is happening, attendance free fall in Calgary even though the team is outstanding. The average attendance has fallen from 32,000 4 years ago to about 28,000 this past season. The only thing that propped attendance up in 2013 were the Labour Day game & 2 Rider games here at McMahon. Without those, attendance may have averaged just 26,000. There is a sense now that the team may be gouging & to a lot of people there's not a sense of good value for the money. Most casual game day seats available for general walk up between the goal lines were in a range from $97 a seat on the 55 yard line to $59 on the goal line. The seats above the upper walkway from goal line to goal line were $48. Those were prices for just a single game. And it priced out a lot of people who may have wanted to take in a game As far as season ticket prices go, they don't list them on the website for individual games. But in 2013 with 10 home games it's easy to figure out. ST prices for the Stampeders ranged from $763.65 on the 55 yard line to $458.55 on the goal line. The seats above the upper walkway were $340.50 Last fall before the Western Final, CHQR radio here in Calgary who are the rights holders for Stamps game had an hour long segment on their sports call in talk show asking the question why can't the Stamps sell out McMahon Stadium & asking fans if they do or don't go to the games.. A lot of worry & concern was expressed. The 2 biggest things that fans felt hurt Stamps attendance was high ticket prices & TSN HD which does not black out home games. Fans calling in said that people can now stay home & watch games in the comfort of their own living room & not sit thru cold, snow, rain & heat. As well as not having to pay outrageous prices for food & drinks. Or put up with long lines at the washrooms & beer vendors. The sentiment was that since the CFL has a rich, new television contract every team's home games will continue to be televised on TSN HD to their local market. The advertisers don't want major markets like Southern Ontario, Montreal or the Lower Mainland blacked out. The condition of McMahon Stadium was mentioned as fans talked about the new buildings in Winnipeg, Hamilton, Regina & the refurbs in BC & Ottawa. Fans want a new stadium in Calgary but the will isn't there to even do a major refurb to McMahon Stadium from politicians or business leaders. Not from Nenshi, Calgary's mayor who publicly said, "Why do they need a new stadium for when they already have one"? The man doesn't know anything about sports & doesn't care. The same can be said of our Premier Alison Redford. There'll be no $$$ coming from the Tories for a stadium. -
Etcheverry announced as Defensive Coordinator (finally)

Some teams don't have a qb coach, others do but don't have a lb coach... While others have both but not a rb coach. Seems it's up to the HC how he wants the positions covered. Every team is different. -

I never understand the CFL & the way teams assign assistant coaches. You'd think they'd have one of: quarterbacks, running backs, receivers, OL, DL, linebackers & dbs with an OC, DC & ST coordinators. As well as a strength & conditioning coach. That's 11 assistant coaches. Most CFL teams have 9 & some even have 10. To me, it makes no sense not to have every position covered. I know it's probably budgetary but with the new tv contract coming in now it's time to expand the coaching staffs. -

Those cheaper seats you speak of are high, believe me. And they're real steep above the upper walkway on both the East & West grandstand.. They are Winnipeg Arena upper deck steep. No safety railings which is hard to believe. If someone fell it'd be nasty...I had season tickets up there one season & moved the next year. I hated those seats because they were so steep. Now, people don't want to sit in them up there. That area is never sold out. -

Only 20,000 ST holders in Calgary. They get a great walk up of 7-8,000 for most games. They used to have 25,000 ST holders a few years back but the stadium is old. It looks nice in the virtual venue but the concourses were built in 1960 when the stadium held 18,000 seats & now it is doubled & the crowd is wall to wall people before, halftime & after games underneath the stands. It's like a dark dungeon. The washrooms are crowded with long lineups. Concessions are expensive & the beer waits can be 20 mins or more. The team has lost between 3-5,000 ST holders who don't want to sit in an old building anymore. Great team but the attendance has fallen yearly the past 3 seasons quite dramatically. The team needs a new stadium but there is absolutely no talk of one being built. The Flames want a new arena & that's where the $$$ will be spent. Basically it's **** the Stampeders as far as local business & politicians go. Too bad as the team is doing great on the field. The Stamps should be smashing attendance records selling the stadium out but they're not. -
A couple seasons to digest: Our new unis

The royal blues are small. I usually take an XL or a 2XL. I tried on the new Bomber third jersey last fall & I fit into a 4XL. The #5 Dieter Brock jersey I have from 2010 is a 2XL & it fits really well. Not too big or too snug. I have no idea why Reebok is messing with the sizes they way they do. The staff at the Bomber Store told me the sizes for the jerseys now are smaller as they are designed & cut differently. Most fans aren't shaped like athletes & want to wear a jersey over a jacket, shirt or hoodie so Reebok is really stupid to go to a snug design for retail sales. -

In the NFL, the Jets went back to their old look as did the 49ers with some subtle changes such as the logo on the helmets being slightly different as well as a deeper gold for the pants & smaller striping. Being a 49ers fan & having some gear as well as spending time in the Bay Area with some fans I know, the Niners fans love the old look better than what they had before. It evokes the Glory Years of the 80's with Joe Montana, Jerry Rice & Ronnie Lott for all of them. We need to go to that old look as well. The third unis are great & the old road unis from the 80's would look outstanding as well. It seems to be what fans want but the Bombers just don't listen. -

How can we not be underwhelmed? Etcheverry is a mad man as a DC & is a vagabond coach going from one job to another or another. it's hard to accept Etcheverry after Stubler was supposed to sign here then the Stamps scooped him up. Bellefeuille is back & that is a Meh decision as his offenses are lukewarm. Same receiver coach as last year, no running back coach, & no OL coach announced. We were supposed to get a qb coach & now MOS is waffling about that. I mean hey, it's nearly March. What is so great about this staff to get excited about? -
Keron Williams still available. Robert McCune still available & now Alexander. Hope we make a play on all 3 even if we sign one.

Like I said 30 years ago but thanks for clearing that up.

I agree with Mike. Old is new again... Who says fans won't buy the away retro whites? They'll buy them if the Bombers wear them & they are on the rack. The regular home & away unis suck. -

Pretty underwhelming. -
Sounds like the City of Hamilton gets a good chunk of the revenue that should go to the Ti Cats. Cue the Bob Young cry of "I ain't paying that!!" And the team will move to London, Ontario...

Quite impressive and as you say, good motivation for any young players who may be more suitable for coaching. that comment was actually for a particular member here who's son is a QB in a canadian university. (figured most people got that) Thanks Bluto, Appreciate the thought . -
So, does Bryant Turner run or does he levitate himself when making a tackle?

Parker re-signed with the Stamps.

Looks like some more aliens walked through a stargate.

I could never figure out why Calgary let that guy go. It would be like BC giving us Eliminian. That was a time when the Stamps were one step from a bankruptcy & were badly managed & coached. However we got West it was for virtually a song & he helped us win 3 Grey Cups. But he was a great player in Calgary before he came to the Bombers. We picked up linebacker Frank Robinson virtually the same way from the Riders. We gave up virtually nothing for him. Either Robson or Murphy, whoever was GM a the time fleeced the Stamps & Riders for those players. Oh yeah, THEN... we picked up linebacker Delbert Fowler from the Als for nothing.... Amazing.. Oddly enough, the only reason they picked up Robinson was because Fowler refused to report to the team when they acquired them. They had sent their starting NI LB to Montreal for Fowler but had a giant hole when he didn't report so they brought in Robinson then Fowler reported a couple weeks later. Yeah, could be as that was nearly 30 years ago. I do know Fowler got here in 1985 but Robinson arrived in 1984. That linebacker corps got even better when Greg Battle got here in 1988. That Bomber defense from 1984 thru 1990 was damned good.

Nice to see it's not just Winnipeg that can screw up stadium completion dates & blame bankrupt suppliers & weather. The Ti Cats better put those seats back in Guelph.

Yes, I got that wrong. Cornell not Harvard.
