REDBLACKS major announcement today, Burris Signed

So, $450,000 plus incentives. This is the new standard now for qbs. Like I said earlier either here or on another thread, the top CFL qbs will be getting half a mill a year or more when the new CBA comes into effect in conjunction with the new tv deal. So, get used to it. It came a bit early. A year from now this contract may look like a deal. -

What exactly were you expecting Henry Burris to win for us? And yes...Walters should be sure to sign Steve Myddleton, the mystical free agent NI OL, just give him a blank cheque. It is going to be a couple years of rebuilding in terms of NI's and QB's. That's the price we pay for relying on Buck Pierce for 4 seasons, wasting picks on Etienne's and Pencer's. If this rebuild isn't done right and we chase mediocre players like Burris to the detriment of developing better players, it will take even longer. But if the fans sit through two more years of medirocity there won't be any fans left to pay the bills... Pierce was a stop gap to help fill the void while we looked for / developed a future starting QB.. it didn't happen.. The qbs that we had failed to perform and have been cast off. If you are okay with 2 more years for 4-14 - 6-12 years you will be mightly lonely in the stands.. The major fallacy spewing from yourself and a few others is that Burris and a couple free agents in this year's market are going to change the fact that we are the worst team in our division...they won't. Need to rebuild this football team from the ground up, starting with management and coaching, now on the field. Rebuilding is a fallacy in a 9 team league where 6 make the playoffs...where all the teams are on the same level playing field fighting to recruit imports from the same talent pool down south...those perceived to be not good enough or lacking the physical makeup to be in the NFL. Reloading while building up your non-import talent base through the draft is completely feasible. There are several examples of this. We aren't on the same level as other teams recruiting anybody...see Eric Norwood. We need to rebuild. This isn't a regular 3-15 team, this is a rotten franchise. Next time I look please tell me the signs of a regular 3-15 team. I need to know. -

Or crushed under the weight of a fan-base's unrealistic expectations .. Imagine Bomber fans wanting a playoff spot. Not a GC championship Just a playoff spot. Oh & some respect. Yep, unrealistic alright. My point is more to the fact that the vast majority of uneducated fans are going to expect whomever it is that lines up behind centre to work miracles and simply go out and win .. they aren't ready for a young quarterback to struggle .. to allow that player to learn to fight through adversity and eek out tough wins .. to grow from those tough loses .. people are going to want to yank him at the first sign of trouble .. it's a sure fire way to destroy the confidence of a young player and it's part of the reason why we find ourselves in this situation now .. No one here thinks that if we signed Collaros or Burris we'd be Grey Cup champs. All we wanted is for a qb to come in here & play well, set the stage for some building blocks to be put in place & challenge for a playoff spot. We threw our qbs to the wolves last year because we had to. Not because we wanted to. I'd say their development was stunted because of that. -

The SMS cap is going up with the new tv deal. Expect this to be the norm, not the exception. -

Marcel Bellefeuille coming back. Rich Stubler signs with the Stamps, Gary Etcheverry becomes our Defensive Coordinator, Zack Collaros signs with the Ti Cats. Said it was a "no brainer" & now Hank may sign in Ottawa. Like I said, the off season from Hell. Wow. If we lose Henoc Muamba I'll agree with you. Muamba signing or not, still a disaster of an off season.

How is not having a quarterback we can win with "excellent news"??? Like who is available JBR??? Drew Willy? He has virtually no playing time. How much should we pay him & if he wants more, we just walk away because it makes business sense? The only way to get a legitimate starting qb is to trade & we aren't in a position to dictate terms so we still lose. Walters has screwed up twice. We are in an even weaker bargaining situation than we were a week ago. Teams know that. We're hooped. -

No.... -
Well then, what? You tell us. Stay the course. Play Hall? Re-up Goltz??? The optimists can say what they want that this is February but bottom line this team is in huge trouble... And I don't mean just on the field. They have to start paying back that huge stadium loan this year. If fans stay away... well the scenario is dire.

Salary cap is going up substantially I understand. Qbs will be paid a half million bucks in a year or two. -

Rookie President, rookie GM, rookie HC, uninspiring OC, a disaster waiting to happen at DC. Should I go on? We went with what works for the Bombers in perpetuity. We didn't hire the best people. We hired friends & acquaintances.... Nothing changes with this team. We ran out the old guard & paid thru the nose & replaced them with what? A younger version of the old guard. Now to get a starting qb like Glenn we'll probably have to part with a starter & our first round pick. Walters traded our second round pick for an injured player. Unbelievable that conceivably to get a legitimate starting qb we may have no picks until the third round. I just can't see this getting any worse but hey this is the Blue Bombers, we all know that it probably will. -

Here's another kicker. Trading for Glenn means we have to give up assets. Precious little that we have. And the future as in draft picks. We already lost a second round pick in the ridiculous trade for Neufeld. You know Ottawa will want a starter & our first round pick in order to trade us Glenn. We are hooped. If you think we would have paid too much for Burris at 39, we'll end up paying even more for a 35 year old qb. What an epic fail this has been. Right in the nuts. -
Free Agency pushed forward to February 11
iso_55 replied to Mr. Perfect's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Really, this is no biggie. Makes sense to do it on the 11th. Maybe instead of picking a specified date they should just make it the second Monday in February. -

What a cluster**** this has become. We just had the season from hell. Now we're having the off season from hell.

is anyone getting "that" feeling with Henry Burris...
iso_55 replied to Mr. Perfect's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
If we don't get a qb from the ones that are & become available then Miller & Walters have a lot of explaining to do.. -

iso_55 replied to Mr. Perfect's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Well those asshats in Ottawa... Way to treat your boy Glenn who you've led down the garden path as you had him thinking he's your starter. And Hank, if you go to Ottawa where you have to compete with Glenn for a starting spot, you're an idiot. And deserve all the **** you get. Of course this leads to all kinds of trade possibilities.... But our qb hunt may be going from the sublime to the ridiculous. -
Play him more. He doesn't have to start ahead of Pavlic. But if Pavlic plays 6 games, he plays 4.
-
Goltz was a prima dona . So, he was a good third down qb. Who cares? He couldn't hit a sleeping elephant from 30 feet away. His third down conversions weren't going to make us a playoff team. Kid had a bad attitude & Burke sat him. Can't say it was the wrong thing to do. My question, more than sitting Goltz was why not give Levi Brown a chance? Burke was a total **** up as a head coach anyway. He couldn't head coach his way out of a paper sack.

McManus supposedly a Drew Willy supporter
iso_55 replied to Mr. Perfect's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I told you guys we'd pay for Hank if we signed him. No, no, he has nowhere else to go so he'll be cheaper was the response. Sure. Then let him sign elsewhere! We sign Willy then or if Edmonton or Montreal sign him then we go after Reilly or Nieswander. No team can justify spending 300 000 on a backup qb Everybody seems to want to sign somewhere else & we keep losing. Not just games but players & coaches. So how is that working out for us? It can't continue. -

When I go to a game at McMahon, I take a bathroom break before I get to my seat. I also buy a burger & a couple of water bottles. From that point on, I stay in my seat until the end of the game because of the crowds & lineups in the concourses & especially at halftime. It's so bad that people leave now with 10 minutes left in the 2nd quarter to get to the bathrooms & concessions early so they can get back to see the third quarter. If you leave during halftime, forget it. The lineups are brutal. The stadium was 1988 state of the art for the Olympics.
