Man, so glad Mack is gone so we don't have to keep rehashing his draft picks....

There's gambling & then there's being stupid on 3rd down.... I think if a team is running all over another team then why not go on third & 2??? Yet, teams all punt on 3rd & 1 which is frustrating to watch. Nothing more I hate than a team that is moving the ball, going 2 & out then punting on short yardage from the 50 yard line on the other side of center field.. When Jon Cornish is chewing up huge yards then why not gamble more?

Jason Boltus. Nuff said.

Let's take an all rookie team to play Hamilton & lose 52-0. Not to evaluate these guys but because Burke was afraid of injuries. Leave just about every veteran player back home in Winnipeg. No better way to get the team in a positive, feel good mood to start the season.

Brown never played a down for the Stamps so it was a wasted pick. Wally also drafted Ed Philion & he never played for the Stamps either. Another wasted pick. Both had no interest in playing in Calgary. They both went to the NFL but never stuck. When they came back to the CFL, Wally wouldn't pay them... That was back in the Sig Gutsche days when he owned the team & creditors were circling the Stamps like vultures. They had no money. How times change.

When we do get good, I hope we have a **** You attitude to the rest of the league... I'm looking for a lot of payback. Actually to be dicks about it.

It is disappointing but it is what it is.

It's not laziness. He has a chance to coach Keon Raymond, Juwan Simpson, DeMonte Bolden, Charleston Hughes & a bunch of other great players on defense. He is on a winning team, an instant GC contender. He doesn't have that in Winnipeg. If he comes here, he could be fired in a year's time. I'll say it again, the Bombers outside of Winnipeg are looked upon as an organization with not a lot of talent that is in turmoil. The best coaches won't come here until we turn things around on the field.

Stubler was rumoured to be coming here as well so until there is announcement, I won't put a lot of stock in rumours.

Perhaps being old and lazy means take a smaller paycheque to do less work.. Im not too downtrodden we didnt land him after l said and done.. Sure sounds like he doesnt have the heart or drive to rebuild but the desire to captain something already ready to go.. So,let me understand this... He'd be a great addition if he came here but is old & lazy because he turned down the Bombers? C'mon SPuDs. Stubler is not lazy. Wanting to stay closer to home doesn't make him lazy. He had a choice & he made it. Someone already said the Bombers dug their own huge hole because of mediocrity & failure & are now trying to climb out of it to gain respectability & I agree. The best coaches won't come here until we show that we are on the road to becoming a first class organization. It's going to take awhile to get rid of the rotten stigma the Bomber have.

Gott's a starting guard on the Stamps OL. Doubt the Stamps will trade him. Word in Calgary here is that the Stamps may lose Tsoumpas to the Eskimos who are rumoured to want him badly. If that is the case, they won't be trading any OL now especially after losing Deane. The question is, will Huff pay to re-sign Tsoumpas?

but that's not JUST because of an offense. In a lot of those situations the defense is protecting a lead and playing more passively to try and avoid making a huge mistake and giving a big play. I can see the merit in gambling some of the time though. There are lots of situations where you're probably just as far ahead to go for it as to kick it away but it really depends on a lot of factors. If a team was properly prepared to use those factors in their favour, then they could take advantage of short yardage situations to get 1st downs and TDs. I'm surprised that teams don't have special plays for short gains and goal-line plunges. I mean, other than the old shot-gun-formation-handoff-5-yards-deep standby. I absolutely hate that play. It's like offensive coordinators lose their minds on the goal line.... They have a yard to go for a TD or a first down & they hand off in the gun 7 yards deep or from the pistol 4 yards deep & get stuffed. Well, duh???

Clever KBF...

Where's the link to Stubler's comments?

Which CFL media.... someone legit or someone like Friesen who trolls boards? I don't keep track on who I heard it from. In the Calgary Herald. On CHQR radio here in Calgary (they do the Stampeders broadcasts) during their 3 hour Sports Talk call in show, on sportscasts...The Fan 960... Legit sources.

Yes, so 1 out of 10 onside kicks works. The other 9? Well, it would mean a team like the Argos with Ricky Ray would start their drives at midfield which means they'd score an awful lot. In HS, if you can average 30 yards a punt, you're doing good. More like 20 to 25. Not many great punters at that level. Most HS punters can't punt. They just make contact & hope for the best. I coached at the HS level & I always believed in field position... Let the other team go that extra 20 to 25 yards. They may score but they may not... They still have to make up the yards instead of giving the ball up on a turnover because we never got the first down. It does make a difference.

How many times have we seen a short KO work? I'd say it's at the minimum a 4 to 1 or a 5 to 1 odds it won't work. Probably more like 6 or 7 to 1 that it doesn't work. Say the Bombers went this route with odds like that against the Stampeders with their high powered offense. We'd give Calgary field instant position to start their drives if we don't recover & then what will the score be? Not close as we'd be hammered. As far as punts go, sure. Punting on third & 2??? Why not? I'd go for it, even on third & three. Chances are a team would get the first down on third & 2... Most times. Unless they hand the ball off 5 yards deep. With backs like Harris, Logan, Kackert, Sheets, Gable & Cornish I always thought that CFL teams should gamble more in situations like that instead of always punting.

Sometimes we seem snake bit. It is frustrating...

That would never work at the college or pro level. For every game Kelley would win with this strategy, he'd lose 10 & be out of a job. It's HS football so really anything goes. At the higher & elite levels, field position wins games. Giving up instant field position on an unsuccessful short KO or failed fourth down conversions are killers.

Funny how Chris Jones hasn't named a single coach yet? I'm sure Esks fans are wondering what is going on.

CFL media, Brandon.

Love to have Craig back... Hope it happens.

You're making a few assumptions there. Don't think so, Jacquie. He can work on any team in the CFL. Last season was a disaster & he was an unlucky participant. I don't think he had any idea that things would unravel here the way they did. Have you heard any rumours he wanted to come back? No one has said anything that he wants to be on O'Shea's staff. Now, maybe he will. But all the stories I've heard is he's going to Edmonton.

Mike Riley will be in his mid to late 60's by then & probably retired. Sitting on a beach somewhere or in his home in Oregon enjoying life. -

I think $$ is a huge consideration. Coaches are hired to be fired, move around a lot & money has to be the biggest consideration for them & their families futures. If a coach gets on with a great college program he could conceivably coach there the rest of his working life or for a huge stretch of time. The money on a big D1 team as a coach is outstanding & yes, his kid's college educations are covered. Most coaches would jump at that. But there are a few who want more.or to be in charge. Kent Austin is one of them. He came back to the CFL but as the guy in charge of all aspects of Hamilton's on field operations. Bob Young handed him the keys to the organization, is paying him extremely well & told him to go do what he needs to do to build a Grey Cup winner. Is that the same as a former CFL player in Paul Randolph, having a good thing going at ASU as an associate head coach coming back here as a Defensive Coordinator? To me, it's not. In addition to not having a say in the team's operation other than his defense, it would be a significant pay cut (to the point of being the biggest draw back) for Randolph. It's also a huge risk coming to a team that is rebuilding with no guarantee of success. Randolph could be fired a year from now. Besides, he's been gone two decades from the CFL.The game is different now than when he played linebacker for us. Just can't see it happening.
