When we win a Grey Cup (hopefully in my lifetime) I'll remember that remark & I'll be living it up laughing. My take is if you can't win within the salary cap then you have a loser for a GM.
-
Overspending isn't cheating? Maybe in your world.
-
this guys will look good too here: Kyries Hebert (MTL), Damaso Munoz (EDM), Simone Lawrence (HAM)... I'm also interested in Marc-Olivier and/or Brouillette Marc Calixte, we can do a 3 NI rotation in the ILB if we get one of those guys Calixte retired after the 2012 season. And he was strictly a ST player. Never played a regular lb spot for the Stamps.
-
With a 3-4 we'll need active linebackers. Muamba would be a natural in one of the ILB positions.... Juwan Simpson is a FA & story in Calgary today is that his former DC Rick Campbell will try to sign him.... He'd look good here with Muamba as the 2 interior linebackers in a 3-4.

I expect the Riders will be over the cap & whether it's $1 or $100,000, to me it's still cheating. It's only cheating when Edmonton does it. When "Canada's team" does it then it's not really cheating cause everyone loves the riders and wants them to win. There was a time when I too, liked the Riders. But like a drug induced flashback it all seems so unreal....

Well, we now have a GM & President who are going to be very active in free agency . Halleujah!
-
Who do you think we could snag? I'm sure there are some FA in Toronto that would love to play for O'Shea too. Just need the right OC now. I wonder if O'Shea/Stubler could convince Barron Miles to come here too. Mark Washington will probably be DC in BC now. When Stubler went to BC from Toronto a couple of FA's followed him out west. If some Lions FA defensive players follow him here, I say... C'mon down!!!

A huge part of the problem is having Jake Ireland who was an incompetent head referee for years in the CFL reviewing plays in the CFL Command Centre. He can't even get the play right when it's slowed down & shown from 3 different angles. I mean, the NFL has its share of bad reffing as was witnessed last week in the Redskins game. I don't think we expect every play to be right but with technology the way it is now, it should be right 8 times out of 10.

From past experience, players that know Stubler's system that are FA's on other teams want to play under him again. So, if this is true & he is our DC I would expect there would be a lot of interest for free agents to sign here.

SPuDs, why do you hate Higgins so much? Two time COTY & a GC winning coach. Is it because he never coached here? Is that a prerequisite for you to actually like someone? Then he can do no wrong.
-
Who cares? The guy is a great defensive coordinator.
-
Don's coaching days are over. He's in his 70's & recovering from cancer. Enjoying life away from the game. He has a young son or daughter.
-
Then there's this guy. And he comes relatively cheap as well... http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/italian-football-league-team-offers-tim-tebow-200000-deal-to-play-quarterback/article15787010/

I think you'll see all teams do this to Ottawa. Not just Saskatchewan. Mo Price signed yesterday in Calgary. There's a feeling that the draft is already too favourable to the redblacks. . The other 8 won't give up any more.

Andy Mulamba.
-
Both I'd say. He also had a qb coach when he was in Calgary in John Hufnagel to tutor all those guys in Calgary.

Redblacks to name Rick Campbell head coach

Yes, I agree with your first 2 sentences hence I liked what you had to say.The only guy I know who guided his football team from birth to a championship was Paul Brown of the Cleveland Browns in the late 1940's in the All American Football Conference. He coached the Browns before they joined the NFL in that league from 1946 to 49 where he won at least one championship. Then he won a number of NFL championships in the 1950's with that Browns team when the 2 leagues merged so it's extremely, extremely, extremely rare. Campbell is basically going there to do the work to set the Ottawa team up to eventually get fired in 3 or 4 years if he's lucky.Tom Landry and Hank Stram also did it. Don Matthews also did too with Baltimore but had deck stacked in his favour. The Baltimore team was totally stacked. No Canadian players all Americans plus they signed away some key CFL FA's like Tracy Ham & others. They paid their players in USD while ours were paid in Canadian & back in those days the CAD was worth nearly 30% less. I wouldn't even include them in any reference to CFL expansion coaches taking their team to a GC championship because it is so ridiculous. -
Even Buono ? Wally's always had a qb right from the beginning going back to 1990 when he started with the Stampeders. That year he had Gilbert Renfroe & Danny Barrett, then in 1991 Doug Flutie, followed by Jeff Garcia, Dave Dickenson, & a hot Marcus Crandell the last half of 2001 when he won the Grey Cup. Then in BC he had Casey Printers, Dave Dickenson, a healthy Buck Pierce & finally Travis Lulay. So, he's always had someone at least capable throwing the football in over 20 years coaching in the CFL.The winningest head coach in CFL history proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that always having someone is who is at the very least, capable of throwing the football made him the winningest head coach in CFL history.

Khari Jones enroute to Winnipeg according to Jim Toth

Other than the madman Casey Creehan whose head exploded nearly every game who was a tyrant on our staff last season? I don't think we had one. Now, teachers... well... -
Struggled as a Head Coach & GM? Uh, don't think so... A former CFL COTY. Check his won loss record & what he accomplished in Edmonton & Calgary & get back to us. We would kill here to have a coach who struggled like he did.
-
Why do you say that? Not even as a position coach? I don't know that he'd be my first choice at OC, but I certainly wouldn't object to having him in a different role on the coaching staff, like receivers coach for example. He's not a bad coach I just don't like his philosophies. What would that be? Deciding that Jason Boltus is a quality QB, for one.... That's a personnel decision not a philosophical one, Noeller. Althought I agree with you on the Boltus decision. Does Mike not like the offensive schemes that Bellefeuille designs, for example? Just curious.

Miller in my mind hasn't accomplished a great deal, but I'll give him credit for accomplishing two things: The fan base is excited again about the Bombers, and we have hired an HC from outside of the organization that we are receiving praise for from other CFL cities. Not praise. The media here in Calgary snickers & are for the most part disbelievers at all the hirings. They don't believe they can turn the team around. I think the rest of the league falls into that category because of the youth & inexperience. The Stamps fanbase on both fan sites feel sorry for Bomber fans. Most think we are great fans that deserve a lot better. But sports media and fans in Calgary are all ******* ******* so I wouldn't put any stock into their opinions. I actually saw someone in a Calgary paper back in 2006 make the claim that Dion Phaneuf was just as good as Chris Pronger. Some guys are okay here. I'd put Mark Stephen in the column of being a very good, well informed & balanced CFL broadcaster like Bob Irving is. He's pretty balanced except when it comes to the Riders whose fans drive him crazy like they do all of us. His partner on CHQR Jock Wilson can be a ****** at times but I get the impression that he wants to be that way.
