Redblacks to name Rick Campbell head coach
iso_55 replied to Mr. Perfect's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
timing is odd too Calgary lost their DC to Ottawa Higgins resigns few hours after that Tom lived in Calgary for years. Maybe he comes back to the Stamps as DC. Ironic as Huff replaced him as HC here in 2008. -

Well, the coaching & management baggage is now gone totally. We have a team. We at least have a base to work off of. We do have experienced talent albeit not a lot. What's Ottawa got? Three unknown signed players? Whoop de freaking who??? And 24 fringe players they'll select in the expansion draft. Yeah, maybe they'll draft a good qb but who'll be blocking for him??? Who'll be the go to receiver or running back? Same on defense with all unknowns. Anyone going into that situation with 2 failed teams before them thinking there'll be no pressure to win will be in for a shock. -

Wow.....He would look good in Blue and Gold as an OC Defensive Coordinator.... He was a linebacker in the CFL. That was his history as a coach also. -
Sure Worman is a good choice. However, I don't think he has any history with O'Shea?

Miller in my mind hasn't accomplished a great deal, but I'll give him credit for accomplishing two things: The fan base is excited again about the Bombers, and we have hired an HC from outside of the organization that we are receiving praise for from other CFL cities. Not praise. The media here in Calgary snickers & are for the most part disbelievers at all the hirings. They don't believe they can turn the team around. I think the rest of the league falls into that category because of the youth & inexperience. The Stamps fanbase on both fan sites feel sorry for Bomber fans. Most think we are great fans that deserve a lot better.

Surprise here by fans & media in Calgary. Everyone thought he was going to Edmonton. When they hired Jones everyone thought he'd be coming back. He was a so so DC in Edmonton but a very good one here so hard to judge if he's the right guy or the best candidate available. Again, like Jones in Edmonton, O'Shea here & now supposedly Campbell in Ottawa, all rookie head coaches. No one knows if that's a good or bad thing. Only time will tell. -

I guess he didn't have the suit... -
I like what O'Shea said at that news conference. He seems like a sharp guy. He does need to surround himself with good coaching talent to be successful. It'll be interesting to see just who he hires as his coordinators here in the coming days & weeks. We can win games especially if we're not as talented as other teams if we have great coaches. If we work hard in practice & games. If we are prepared as a team & can adjust on Game Day..

I think Nelson was & is a better DC than Reed.
-
Mike Hogan speculated today that Orlando Steinhauer would be someone O'Shea would strongly consider for the DC position as they are close but that he may not want to uproot his family in Oakville, Ont to come to Winnipeg.

The year that Kavis Reed was our DC our defence was pretty good. So I am curious as to why he would be a no for you? Reed never distinguished himself over a long period of time as both a DC or ST coordinator in Hamilton, Sask or Edmonton. Maybe he had a decent defense here in Winnipeg but he was never mentioned as one of the great CFL DC's when he was doing it. Of course, he was STC in Sask when they lost the GC with the 13 men on the field debacle. I also think Sonic hired him as HC in Edmonton so he had a guy he could pull strings on whenever he wanted....

As far as reaction in Calgary here goes, I was listening to Sports talk on AM770CHQR this evening. Mark Stephen is the play by play guy for the Stamps & very much the same type of broadcaster Bob Irving is. His partner Jock Wilson is the **** disturber of the two who likes to get his digs in or get under peoples skin whenever he can on all subjects. They had Bob Irving on this evening & Bob was glowing in his praise of both Kyle Walters & Mike O'Shea. The biggest concerns brought up in the interview was the skepticism of the Miller, Walters & O'Shea team by both Stephens & especially Wilson. That those 3 are very young & have no senior management or head coaching experience in the CFL. As well as the situation of having to do a huge rebuilding job to right the Bomber ship & are these the 3 guys who can actually do it? Bob said that seems to be the way the CFL is going now with younger guys with a ton of energy taking over. That the older experienced managers & coaches are getting pushed to the side & why not give these young guys a chance? Bottom line, I don't think anyone outside Winnipeg questions the guys hired re their knowledge for & passion of the CFL. Just the inexperience factor leads to this skepticism & the questions that these are the 3 that can change the Blue Bomber fortunes when so many others couldn't. I think that's the way most CFL media & fans in other cities think right now.

But you are here & have been for awhile so maybe that tells you something.

Pffft Tim Burke was just given a steaming pile of crap as a roster to work with. I don't think anyone could coach these guys into winners. I am just so happy that next years team is not going to be as lifeless and gutless as the Tim Burke teams. O'Shea just seems like the kind of person who won't put up with that kind of ****. Players will either do the job and put in the effort or they'll be out on their ass. Burke just had no idea how to run a team as a head coach. Couldn't relate to his players. Blamed them instead of him for losing by pointing fingers at individuals. Unable to adjust in game situations. He was such a disaster as a HC & it contributed greatly to the team losing so much. I was shocked at how such an experienced football coach was so disorganized & truthfully clueless on the sidelines as a head man.

The Argos have been gutted with Ted Goveia & O'Shea coming over here.... And with Chris Jones going to the Esks as HC. Now Jim Barker & Milanovich have their work cut out for them to find replacements. I'd like to see the Riders similarily gutted just because I hate that team so much...
