Zontar, In a heartbeat, yes. Of course we'd like Austin here. KBF is just sayin'. Austin started off as a rookie HC in Regina & look what he did & has done since....Not all rookie HC's fail. Burke was a bad communicator & his skills running a team were just not there. Thing is, you just never know with a rookie head coach, right? It was evident to a lot of fans (except Buchko & Mack) that Tim Burke wasn't HC material & never should have got an extension when he did. O'Shea played a lot of years in the CFL on a lot of winning as well as championship teams. He also played & coached under some great coordinators & head coaches so I think he has learned & understands the CFL very well. But like I said earlier, you just never know with a rookie head coach. I am optimistic that O'Shea will be a great leader & have better instincts as well as having the Bombers better prepared as a head coach than Tim Burke ever did.

Players now may actually want to come here & not view the team as a wasteland or where coaches & players go to have their careers killed. We have some of the best if not the best facilities in the CFL now. That has to be s a major selling point once the team turns the corner on the field. Blue Bomber fans are loud & proud. The city just aches for a winner & the place will go freaking nuts when we do.... This could be an exciting place to play in a year or two.

Congrats to Henoc!!! This announcement will be getting lost in the shuffle with the head coaching announcement today. Let Muamba go do his NFL thing. If it doesn't work out then hopefully he comes back here & signs a new long term agreement with the Bombers.

If Cortez has an opportunity to be a HC in the CFL or elsewhere or even leave to go be an OC somewhere else in the league, the Riders can't hold him. All assistants have an out clause after the season to go to other teams in the CFL or elsewhere. How productive would it be for the Riders to not allow Cortez to pursue other opportunities & they have a disgruntled coach on their hands?
-
I think they thought they could keep it a secret till the announcement that if they had to move him from the hotel to the stadium that it would get out. Also probably easier to allow fans to come watch at a hotel than the stadium media room. Both are big announcements & warrant separate news conferences. They'd never have 2 announcements like those together. This day is for the new HC. The GC announcement will be for another.

I'm sure the Stamps invited players to those early camps but from what I understand if you pay your hundred bucks you could even go if you wanted, Mike. These are supposed to be open tryouts. They apparently advertise the camps but I am sure that player agents everywhere know these camps as well. My son went to a private qb camp in Oakland last summer & the free agent talent at receiver there available that that helped out looking for work was unreal. they all came because the qb coach running the camp for college level qbs was a former Pac 12 head coach. One guy used to be on the PR of the Green Bay Packers. Another guy was an AFL receiver. So much talent it is crazy!.That is why CFL teams run these FA camps because so many players who could play in the CFL are out there unemployed.

So, one guy in how many camps from different teams? He was gone in half an hour from what I read. I know the Stamps have found most of their players this way. They have camps in the US SE,SW, a couple in California & Florida. The best players from each camp get invited back to the last camp they hold where they offer the best players contracts. That is how I was told the Stamps do it. . I meant it as a joke. Couldn't get the smilie in the post because the bus kept running over snow ruts while I was posting. Thanks for clarifying...

The Argos are getting raped in management & coaching, Bluto. Collaros will be gone.... Might be a challenging season next year.

Sure, that's what the #2 and 3 spots are for. Number 2 sure but no way #3. That's for a developmental qb. -

Plan B for a single season. We need more at the qb position than a one year fix. I suspect Walters knows that. -

At 39 next year, Burris would be a one year bandage. Next year, we'd be in the same spot we are now.... Looking for a new qb for the future. -

iso_55 replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
If they hire Cortez it pretty much cements Burris as the teams QB. Another reason I want a different HC. Maybe not. He also coached Drew Willy for a year so he knows what he can do. -
He had a qb school in Winnipeg. Is that still going on?

The Stamps run 5 or 6 camps like that all over the US & have found a number of very good players that way. They weren't invitational. Anyone can come which opens it up to a lot more players. That is the difference between the Stamps & Bombers. I know the Lions have the same set up as the Stamps for free agent camps as well. No invitations. Yeah, the players pay but so what? If they want to be pro football players it costs money for the fringe players. Costs money to become a civil engineer or a teacher, too. Be interesting to see what the Bomber scouting dept do now...

Milt going to Morris MB to help business owner
iso_55 replied to kelownabomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
We, who do not live in Morris, know nothing about the situation. Maybe there's racism & homophobia. Maybe there isn't. We don't know. For that reason I'm not making any comments about this story other than this. -

You mean a decent DC? I would hope George runs the O, provided he can wear both hats. Maybe hire a very good DC who can assistant HC (Stubler?) Yes, a decent DC.... My bad, thanks. -

I think Cortez has a better overall feel for the game than Burke had. If the club signs a decent qb & he hires a decent OC we may be in business. -
Long term you can't say that seeing as what happened before or after. Decisions that were made at the board level a few years ago came home to roost last season.
-
Well, as we have no private owner, the Board is responsible for hiring & firing the Team President as he is accountable to them. Having said that in reality the Board can do whatever they want...
-
You don't think governments should have representation on a Board when there's taxpayer's money involved? No, actually I don't. Too much political interference. It is what it is, unfortunately. I'd prefer that the team was privately owned.
