  1. Bob WANTED but Bob never came to the table with any of his own money. Had he done so, he may have been taken more seriously. Does he plan to put any of his money into the stadium in the future to expand it or will he demand that 100% of taxpayer's money do that?
  2. My son plays at SFU. I'd like this a lot.
  3. I am mostly interested in seeing how Jones and Hervey work. Seems to me that Jones has some management ambitions as well so if Hervey continues to be a clown do we see a power struggle? Wouldn't surprise me that in a year's time, Jones is also GM. Hervey out the door.
  4. Fluke in the sense that Popp & Trestman before him had no plan to develop a qb to take over for AC.Trestman played AC 95% of the time keeping him in no matter if the team was up or down by big points late in the game. Sure they found Smith but Popp got lucky. To me, there was no succession plan in place by Popp.
  5. Nelson would be a great hire if Burke leaves. If Burke leaves???? Holy ****, now Miller's got me thinking about keeping Burke...
  6. Well, they fluked into Troy Smith so they look to be in good hands now. Popp & the Als have horseshoes coming out their ying yangs about Smith.
  7. When it comes to Tim Horton's Field, I know Ti Cat fans are saying, "Why them & not us?" when comparing what they're getting to what we have here. I mean, it's great the place will be brand new but it's just a modern rehash of Canad Inns Stadium's design or a second version of the old Ivor Wynne Stadium whichever way you look at it. But with a budget of $120 million, I guess that's all Hamilton will get. Too bad as it could have been so much better.
  8. Just an aside, but when TSN hired Brian Williams away from CBC about 10-15 or so years ago, he was supposed to be the face of CFL football on TSN & it never worked out that way. His role never was that dominant & now he's not even on the TSN football broadcasts anymore. .I guess he retired .I just get the sense things didn't work out for him.
  9. Be interesting to see what happens to Ron MacLean & Elliott Friedman in all of this. I wouldn't miss Stock or Healey but I would miss Friedman who always seems like the voice of reason on the CBC Panel. Don Cherry is 80 years old & really could be gone at any time as health can change for the bad on a dime at that age. I can't see Rogers getting rid of MacLean & Cherry as long as Don can still do the segment but you never know. If MacLean was replaced, I couldn't see Cherry fitting in & getting used to another on air partner at his age. Of all the CBC panelists, I hope that Friedman is kept. Healey is just so annoying. Kevin Weekes is kind of bland & doesn't have a strong on air personna.
  10. Out here in Calgary we rarely get to see Jets games. I'm concerned that now they'll become invisible. Even on HNIC they are rarely on & if they are they are the afternoon game.
  11. February 16th is going to be a very interesting day for the Bombers.
  12. How many good CFL beat writers are there? If you have one or two in each CFL city I think you're doing good.
  13. Too bad that a deal that encompasses only Canadian teams has to be shared with American teams.
  14. Only the CFL & Rider Nation thinks a Grey Cup in Regina is a good thing. Too small, not enough hotels, bus company holding up out of town fans for ransom. Making a national event a regional one. I could care less where Bluto is from because he's right.
  15. The way the media works in this country, TSN may own Sportsnet next year.... Everything is like an Octopus in this country.
  16. If they can lift Burke's contract off their books then that would be the best thing for the Bombers. If the new HC wants Burke, I guess they can pay him what he was supposed to be paid as a HC & refuse other teams like the Argos from talking to him which is an unlikely scenario.
  17. I wouldn't mind Burke as our DC but it would be strange. Also, if Burke goes to TO does that mean the team is off the hook for his HC salary? Can someone clarify that?
  18. Just had a chance to watch the full media conference with Walters & Miller. I liked what Kyle had to say. If he follows thru on everything he says he's going to do then maybe we've finally found the guy to lead this organization for a long time successfully. I like the fact that he feels free agency is but one tool to build player depth instead of just ignoring it. I like that he says the Bombers will be aggressive come February 15th in free agency. He makes mention that the scouting dept will be upgraded but didn't give Ken Moll a ringing endorsement about his future other than "he's under contract" for the time being. I didn't get the sense that Walters feels Tim Burke should be kept on as a potential DC for the new HC like Miller suggested. He actually seemed annoyed with Tim Burke's comments earlier this month before he was fired about the club's scouting department when Burke knew there was a good chance he wouldn't be here next year. Walters acknowledged things needed to change with the way the Bombers operate in the US but probably wasn't happy Tim said it publicly. He answered all the questions well. Let's hope that he is the man to do this.
  19. The injuries in the CFL are bad enough with 18 regular season games. I would hate to see what happens at 20.
  20. Not excited about the move but Walters deserves a chance & I intend to give it to him. Like 17 says, I don't believe this new team running the Bombers will get much of a honeymoon from the fans next season as winning is so imperative. Can't afford to get off to something like a 1-6 start, for example. Fans will be watching closely as far as to who Walters signs as the new HC & then how aggressively we pursue someone like Zack Collaros & other CFL free agents as well. This off season will be so defining as a football organization to win the confidence of the fanbase back.
  21. If we get a qb that can actually play well in this league the new HC whoever it may be will have his IQ rise substantially. Am I excited about this hire? No. Will I give Kyle Walters a chance? Yes as he deserves that. Will things change? Million dollar question.
  22. How does Creehan keep finding work in a 9 team league? He's going to eventually run out of teams.
  23. Unless it is an impact player like a Ricky Ray or a Jon Cornish, free agents normally are experienced players that can fill a gap or much needed gaps in a roster. Some are still impact players & still effective but on the downside or others are well past their prime but are still have a year or two left in the tank as players. Brought in for leadership like Geroy Simon was in Riderville. I've always felt that free agency is just one part of the puzzle in building a championship. It shouldn't be relied upon solely but it shouldn't be ignored either.
  24. This GC would have been a disaster had the Stamps won. That was a local Grey Cup game & not a national one. The CFL could have looked really stupid, I think. I bet Cohon was very relieved when the Riders won the WDF as it saved the game.
  25. Been to 2 Grey Cup games. The first one in Vancouver years ago, I was sitting in the bar at my hotel having a drink & chatting up the bartender. Turns out he used to work at my dad's auto body shop in Winnipeg. So, small world.
