Agreed. That would be a guy like Higgins. But doesn't look like it'll happen. -
Jeremy O'Day to be interviewed for Bombers GM

I'd be ecstatic with Zack Collaros as the starter & Hall as the backup. I think Hall coming off the bench for Collaros would be pretty awesome. -

From what I've seen of Willy, he reminds me of Ryan Dinwiddie which is scary if we are thinking of trying to sign him. -
Dickenson To Sign Long Term Deal With Stamps
iso_55 replied to iso_55's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I think on Sunday it was the Stamps offense's inability to get first downs as well as fumbles that led to Cornish being taken out of the game rushing wise. At halftime, the Riders had 18 first downs to the Stamps 2. And Cornish had -4 yds rishing on something like 4 carries. Losing Marquay McDaniel hurt the Stamps run game as he was an excellent blocker off the edge as a slot. Mo Price moving inside from the wideout position to replace McDaniel was hoped he'd pick up the slack. But on top of his huge fumble in the first half Price's blocking for Cornish was atrocious. Things improved once they moved fullback Rob Cote to slot on run plays in the second half but he's no receiver. Cornish got it going in the second half after Cote went to slotback & Tate replaced Glenn at qb. Cornish finished with something like 68 yards rushing to at least make it look respectable after the game. The 5 Stampeder turnovers in the first half, three fumbles & two picks were awful. The Mo Price & Brad Sinopoli fumbles were especially killers as was Glenn's pick on the first series by the Riders. I remember seeing Glenn's eyes at times during the first half when the cameras focused on the huddle or after a play didn't work & he looked scared. At other times he seemed disinterested. He should have been pulled a lot sooner for Tate. Huff stayed too long with Glenn. On defense, for some reason the Stamps decided to go with 2 quicker & smaller defensive tackles in Junior Turner & Etienne Legare two Canadians & they got destroyed from the get go. The Stamps didn't go out & bring anyone in after Demonte Bolden & Corderro Law were injured in the last regular season game in BC. They had 2 weeks to find 2 big tackles, bring them in & coach them up but John Murphy didn't get the job done. Instead John Hufnagel decided to go in house replace Law & Bolden with 2 smaller & inferior players already on the roster which was a monumental mistake. It allowed the Rider OL in particular the two guards Dominic Picard & Brendan LaBatte to have a field day blasting those 2 dudes back 5 yards on every play allowing Sheets to run for 177 yards. In short, Glenn provided no leadership at the qb position. The receivers needed someone on offense to help get them on track & the emotionless Glenn wasn't the guy to do it. Price couldn't block for Cornish when he replaced McDaniel inside. To top it off on defense, there was the questionable decision to go from 2 big American tackles to 2 small Canadian ones which killed the Stampeders run defense. Their season was over after the Lions game in early November. After an entire season of plug & play due to injuries in the biggest game of the year, the loss of McDaniel, Bolden & Law in BC was so huge the team couldn't overcome it. I think the Stampeder players knew going in it was a lost cause & played like it. -
Let's hope the announcements come fast & furious out of the Bomber office early next week.

Head coach - Who do you want and why?

on the other hand Cortez woulda hired Creehan right? Red flag. Don't think that would happen twice. Didn't they have a falling out in Hamilton early on in the 2012 season. Wasn't Creehan talking negative about Cortez behind his back? -

Willy has potential but would he be better than Collaros? Also, with our OL & the shape it's in would Willy make it thru an entire season? Collaros can at least evade the rush, scramble, take off with the football & extend plays with his athleticism as well as (probably) run the zone read a lot better than Willy who looks to be a classic drop back passer from the pocket. Just haven't seen enough of Willy to know more about him. -

I've always said that executives who go over the cap should be fined as well. Put some teeth into the fines. -

The fines get serious if they are a half mill over from what I understand. Up to that point it's really just a slap on the wrist. -

With a new SMS in place next season as it will be higher Taman may not have put the Riders in as bad a place as might have been had things stayed the same. If the Riders are over the cap, they'll just pay the fine. -
With the Riders hosting their Grey Cup game I can't wait for it to be over so we can finally get down to the business of hiring a GM & HC as well as move on to signing a FA qb like Zack Collaros. I'm not sold on Drew Willy as I haven't seen enough of him as Durant plays nearly 100% of all the games & I'm thinking he'll sign with us if KJ is our HC. I really want us to sign Collaros as our first choice & stop at nothing to get him here.

Jeremy O'Day to be interviewed for Bombers GM
iso_55 replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Sounds like he's a bit tired as the season is nearly a 6 month long affair. That is a grind to be sure. I get the sense that a few weeks off after the Grey Cup he'll come back charged & ready to go. I also get the sense he's like any other older guy who'd like to settle down as he's getting whicup in age which is understandable but I don't get a sense he's going thru some mid life crisis & wants to climb Mt Everest looking for different challenges. He's a football guy & will be until he's told he's no longer wanted by anyone. -
Head coach - Who do you want and why?
iso_55 replied to Mr. Perfect's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Tom Higgins as GM & HC. He has contacts in both the NCAA, CIS & NFL. Knows coaches outside those organizations as well. Is used to dealing with CFL agents. Can negotiate contracts. Is experienced in rebuilding teams & making them championship competitive. Is a Grey Cup championship coach. More importantly,he has done both roles simultaneously in the past so he is my choice. -

Well, it seems every poster (including myself) has an idea as to what will make a great head coach. Guess we'll find out in a couple of weeks who the guy is. let's just hope we get it right this time.

Rumour: Danny McManus Potential Assistant GM Candidate

Doesn't sound like either hire is going to be a breathtaking moment. So, a lot of people won't be happy while a lot of people will be with both announcements. Going to be mixed reviews. -
Rumour: Danny McManus Potential Assistant GM Candidate
iso_55 replied to Jpan85's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I'd prefer if the job search here was reversed. With so many NFL teams as well as NCAA schools we need a GM who has contacts down south first & an assistant who can work the CIS schools. Not the other way around. I'd be all for Danny getting the GM job & Walters his assistant GM if he wants him. -
At least the Bombers are appearing to be looking a bit further outside the organization than just Walters. I see this as good news. I don't care what team the GM comes from. As long as the hire truly is the best person available.

Dickenson To Sign Long Term Deal With Stamps
iso_55 replied to iso_55's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
How can you like your own post? Yeah, so it was one victory over an over confident Rider team. Big deal. In every other game Goltz played, he was his usual craptacular self. Goltz is a garbage qb. Can't read defenses or hit the broadside of a barn from 15 yards. -
I just don't understand the O'Shea thing. I really don't. Has he ever been a linebacker coach with the Argos or just special teams? How Miller can think of hiring a coach with such limited experience is something I don't get. When did he retire, about 3 seasons ago? I'm not saying O'Shea can't be successful but after the season we just had why are we turning to a neophyte coach with just a few years of experience coaching thinking somehow that he can turn the team's fortunes around. We don't know if O'Shea can even handle being a head coach. If Miller blows this hire it could permanently cripple this team & send it spiralling into bankruptcy if crowds turn away because of another bad season. So much at stake here that it is ridiculous.

I have no idea why some fans like O'Shea over Khari. Based on what?

Dickenson To Sign Long Term Deal With Stamps
iso_55 replied to iso_55's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
You define Goltz as a great qb because he won ONE game against the Riders who obviously were looking past us when they played here. That's pretty funny. Yes, I'm sure when Goltz thankfully gets his inevitable release 8 other CFL teams will be falling over themselves trying to sign him. I hate to bring this up as it's been debated to death but I can't believe our former jackass GM & Head Coach released Joey Elliott & kept Goltz. They both deserved to be hitting the pavement out of town over that decision. -
Rumour: Danny McManus Potential Assistant GM Candidate
iso_55 replied to Jpan85's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Why would O'Shea be a better candidate than Khari as a head coach who has to game plan & call plays every time the team has the ball? A special teams coordinator over an offensive coordinator? Both have never been a HC. I'd prefer a better all around candidate who has coached both sides of the ball at the pro level so we don't get the Tim Burke "I don't understand offense" excuse. This is all part of the experience thing I was talking about.
