Won't argue with what you say 17. You're right on everything you say. Burke's gotta go. But hard lesson for Goltz. I think if he ever gets a chance to start again on another CFL team he probably has learned a valuable lesson. As bad as Burke treated him, he can't treat his coaches like that. So, he had a big hand into what happened to him.
-
I guess that Goltz burned his bridges with the coaching staff. There was a comment by Jim Toth earlier in the year where he said the guy pouted, wouldn't listen to his coaches, turned & walked away from them mid sentence so his attitude was bad after he was removed as a starting qb. And that his teammates lost respect for him. Now maybe Ricky Ray or Hank Burris can get away with that but someone like Goltz should have realized that what was happening to him is part of being a pro football player & handled it a lot better. Disrespecting his coaches was a huge mistake. Win or lose players still have to respect them & respect goes both ways. Burke should have released him if he & the coaches were so unhappy with him but I think he was kept around because the coaches felt the fourth qb we picked up from the Riders wasn't ready to play. If Hall was hurt then they'd need Goltz to play in relief. To me, that was their logic for not cutting him. But yeah, the coaches definetly sent a message to the guy to humble him, pretty obvious.

Hey, I like KBF's comments above about Goltz being BC's third string qb next year & how much some people here will miss him even though he'll never see the field. Joey Elliott all over again.

Is that a backhanded compliment?

When it comes to kids that when the rules get blurred. I can tell you from experience you can have two 12 year olds. One is 6 feet & 180 lbs & the other not even 5 feet tall & less than a hundred lbs. Some kids are bullies constantly looking for the little guys to bury. Refs will call a game differently at the lower levels of community football because of that.

Arash Madani: Miller Trying to Force Rick Worman On Walters

Doesn't mean they can't talk to people & make an agreement. The CFL is just talking about hiring announcements. -
Agreed. I've never been a fan of DeMarco. me too.. i honestly think he is hyped simply due to being outta that QB factory known as BC.. another one that i simply dont get is the dan lafevour love in hamilton. hes goltz but a bit bigger... I don't like LeFevour either. He's awful. Can't throw. If Austin protects him over Burris then he's crazy.

Not disagreeing Rids. I've seen penalties in minor football a that age for tackling too hard. Clean tackles but the refs felt a player could have let up. These rules really discriminate against the aggressive players in favour of the kids who are passive. I don't like them but they are there.

Kavis Reed as Bombers new Defensive Coordinator?
iso_55 replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Rick Stubler is a brilliant Dc but was a disaster as a HC in Toronto. Goes to show a brilliant coordinator isn't always a great head coach. Which is why I defer to a proven track record over a hot newbie with no experience. As in Tom Higgins over Dave Dickenson or Chris Jones. -

Shawn Churchill is an unpolished interviewer? You realize he's been doing the sports for CTV Winnipeg since 2000 and has been their sports director since 2005. He isn't some rookie reporter. I didn't know who it was., but it doesn't matter to me. It sounded like a first take of an interview and came across as amateurish. At one point, he didn't even listen to the answer before he asked virtually the same question. Doing the sports and doing an interview are two different things and Mr Churchill didn't cut it…um…for me. Yeah but... amateur or not some revealing things came out of that interview. -

The CEO position isn't a pressing long term need. Wade Miller can do what has to be done and he can do that 'interimly' or not. As to the 3-5 week scenario Miller alluded to, I ask you, did he seem overly worried about the goings-on, or maybe that they have a time frame they are comfortable with? Which might mean…arrangements/hand-shakes because of that exact time frame. Curious, but on the hand….still curious. Yes, I did find that curious. Like you say.... maybe he's hired their GM already & wants to wait until after the GC. He sure didn't want to talk about the long term debt payments did he? He started to look agitated & annoyed with the questioning. -
He provided a link to the play. That was a beautiful football play and if that was my kid I'd be none to impressed. Thanks. Missed the link & then I replayed that play back a number of times as it isn't clear if the blocker is leading with his helmet or not. I see him finish the block & it looked like his shoulder hit the tackler wiping him out. I will say it looked fine to me but again, the ref threw the flag so the penalty stands fair or unfair. As there is no appeals process to a suspension, it's the league by laws that need changing unfortunately & I can say from my experience of coaching up the ranks of minor & high school football, I don't think that'll ever change. Most community leagues are run by people who aren't experienced as both officials & players so they want no part in overruling an official in a situation like this. They are comfortable & secure knowing they are safe behind the words of the league by laws as composed by a lawyer. So, I believe that nothing will ever be done. Rids, your kids are just starting to play the game. Get used to the politics. And championships lost on horrible, HORRIBLE calls because the officials at the pee wee level are just starting their reffing careers. Even at the pee wee level the game is too fast for some of these referees. Good luck not clawing your eyes out in frustration in the coming years.

Arash Madani: Miller Trying to Force Rick Worman On Walters

Interesting interview but a big red light went on for me when Miller said that he's in discussion with the Blue Bombers about the term "interim" being removed from his name as Bomber President & that the decision will be made in the next FEW MONTHS. Also that the Bombers had time to take things slow about choices. He also said a GM will be announced in the next 3-5 weeks which will take us to mid December. Need I remind Wade Miller that two teams now are actively looking for coaches, that being the Eskimos & RedBlacks. Soon to be joined by Montreal. With the expansion draft, how can he say there's time?? We've been slow to the gate before & I just hope the coach or GM we want isn't scooped up before us. And to all the Mack supporters he pointed everything at Joe Mack like most of us have said all along. He even went so far as to say he hurt the football team & things needed to be rectified. -
Not surprising that a player thrown out of a game has to sit out the next. That's the rules in Calgary minor football. You'd think the kid's head coach would know that. How the coach talking to the ref would have made a difference is beyond me because a ref won't reverse his decision. If anything, it would make the refs more intransigent & dig in their heels. A league will always back the refs nearly 100% of the time. Without seeing the play, it's impossible to know if the suspension is justified or not.

He said. She said. People believe who they want to believe. Miller or Madani. -
Funny I think January is over rated league wide just by being the best of a bad bunch here. He's not as solid as his reputation suggests. Is he a solid dependable OL? Yes. Is he an all star? I don't think so.
-
Never has come up here in Calgary.
-
It's opinions. If people want to hire guys like Dickenson that's okay. I have no problem with that. Who's to say an offensive minded coach isn't the way to go?
-
No Shannon Boatman? Interesting???

Hit the road Goltz And don't you come back No more, no more, no more, no more Hit the road Goltz and don't you come back no more. Oh coach, oh coach don't you treat me so mean You're the meanest head coach that I've ever seen I guess if you say so, I gotta pack my things and go. That's right, hit the road Goltz And don't you come back No more, no more, no more, no more Hit the road Goltz and don't you come back no more. Oh coach, oh coach don't you treat me this way Cuz I'll be back on my feet someday Don't care if you do cuz it's understood you may run short yardage But your throwing's no good. Well, I guess if you say so I better pack my things and go. That's right. hit the road Goltz and don't you come back No more, no more, no more, no more Hit the road Goltz and don't you come back no more. Well... (Don't you come back no more)... Uh, what you say? (Don't you come back no more)... I don't understand... (Don't you come back no more)... I'll learn to throw, coach. (Don't you come back no more)... I won't wear cuff links. (Don't you come back no more)... I thought I had the first down. (Don't you come back no more)... Well, I got acting at least

If I had to pick between Max Hall & Thomas DeMarco, I'd take Hall in a second. DeMarco had a better team surrounding him than what Hall had & DeMarco looked awful at times. Confused on other occasions. Hall looked to be progressing & getting better. Last saturday's game was a letdown but then, what of it? Last game of the season & looked like a few of the players were there but already checked out. I like Hall's upside much more than Demarco's.

How many of us thought Glen January would make the East All Star team?
-
He's a pending free agent. I agree Calgary would not trade him but would they be able to resign him? He'd be a priority signing. Yes, I believe they would.
-
Being here in Calgary & seeing Tsoumpas play, I strongly believe that he is the true anchor on that OL & there's no way that Calgary trades him to the Bombers. When Tsoumpas was healthy, he & Dan Federkeill dominated on the right side of that line. I'd be shocked if Calgary let him get away. To me, there are very few dominant players on the OL like Tsoumpas. No matter what Calgary did, they'd never make up for the loss of that guy. Even though the Stamps have gone 14-4 & plugged in & played other guys all over the team losing Dmitri Tsoumpas was a huge blow to their team.

If Tate could ever get his head on straight & stop being a headcase, I think he'd be a helluva CFL qb. The big thing is IF.
