"True Colours" article in the Sun

Why do you always stick up for Burke the way you do? You criticize people who stick up for Mack. Yet there you are defending a guy who clearly is not head coaching material, can't motivate his players, doesn't know how to deal with media & blames everyone else for the team's record but himself. As far as Mack goes, he hired Burke. So, to me & a lot of others both were/are incompetent. I'm not sure I criticize people who stick up for Mack. I've been pretty even on Mack I think. I thought he would do well but it became clear his vision and method was not working. In that same sense the coach has to wear the record of his team. So I'm not going to complain when Burke gets fired. But he's not the boogeyman. Too many people get personal with their attacks. Most of the people ripping him would never say it to his face. They'd probably ask him for an autograph and say "keep up the good work coach". He's the architect of the team on the field every week. Burke is responsible for the team being prepared & how they play. He's 3-14 & will probably end the season 3-15 so he has to go. -

I went to 2 games this season & for the life of me I don't get all the bitching about how poorly designed the stadium was. I think it's a great stadium. I swear, I have no idea why people complain about the facility. Compare it to the old place. Compare it to any other CFL stadium in Canada.... We don't have anything to ***** about. Yeah, they screwed up the press box but that'll be fixed. I don't like Asper is doing the work & the Bombers have to pay him though. But the stadium itself? Nothing wrong at all. -

You think Calgary would have found a way to coach Goltz into any kind of successful? The guy is Russell Wilson without any remote semblance of accuracy... I'm no Goltz fan but he would have been handled a lot differently. Under Dickenson & Hufnagel, his tie & cuff links celebration would never have flown. He would have understood systems better. With Dickenson there, his throwing mechanics would have been worked on. In short, he'd have been coached up. Would he be a success? Don't know but he would have had a better chance of being so.

As far as Burke is concerned, I have never heard a football head coach in pro football anywhere point fingers & blame his players like Burke does. Even coaching duds like Jeff Reinbold, Joe Zaleski, Eric Mangini & Rich Kotite stuck up for their players. They never said that they did their best with the talent given to them. Now, we have players according to Burke who have given up & aren't acting like professionals. To me, the guy running the ship is responsible. If the players aren't acting like pros or have given up then all that is on him as Head Coach. Under Burke, things will never get better... He has to go. -
It's obviously a combination of things for our disaterous season. Appropriate blame can be evenly distributed among the many levels of the organization, top to bottom, bottom to top for different reasons but ultimately sharing the same outcome. But to have some fun, simply moving Calgary's entire management/coaching staff over to us, I still don't know if that would have got us into this year's post season with our existing starting and practice roster. I think it absolutely would have had this team into the post season. Not like the other eastern teams have been world beaters. Look at the improvements this offense has made with swapping offensive coordinators, and it's not like Bellefeuile is a great OC or anything. Put a good coaching staff like Calgary has on this team from day 1 and I have no doubts there are a playoff team because good coaches make players better and bad coaches make players look worse than they are. With Calgary's staff, Goltz & Hall would have been coached up. Not left to hung out to dry.

No but Burke is. An absolute total loss. He has cracked my Top 3 All Time Worst Blue Bombers Head Coaches of all time. He joins the smelly company of Joe Zaleski & Jeff Reinbold. Joe Zaleski was futile. Reinbold was clueless & Burke is lost. Absolutely lost but he loves to play the Blame Game to a tee. Never his fault. Screw Burke. The quicker he gets fired the better.

Just to add to this post: Jim Popp was Riders Director of Player Personnel as well as their receivers coach in 1992 & 93. Became GM of Baltimore in 1994. John Hufnaagel was Head Coach & General Manager of New Jersey in the Arena Football League in 1997 & 1998. Wally Buono took on the dual role as Head Coach & GM of the Stampeders in 1992 when former GM Normie Kwong decided to retire. Jim Barker already was Head Coach but also became Stamps Player Personnel Director in 2003 when Manny Julias was fired. -

So where would these guys get the news about Winnipeg being so bad? Most of the guys that come up readily admit they know nothing about the CFL or Canada until they get here. Is some agent poisoning the well? When they come to Canada, they pretty much are at the end of their professional ropes as their NFL dreams are either dead or on hold, and so it would be a case of Beggars can't be choosers, I would think. I guess news get out.... probably agents. Maybe we don't pay well compared to other teams? Who knows? -

I know this. Comparing football to baseball is like comparing apples to oranges. Football is much more technical than baseball. If I am a coach & I say to my personnel guy on the team that I need an offensive lineman & the guy I want must have certain traits can he find me someone quickly? If a personnel guy can't evaaluate a DVD or go to a game & isn't able to see what certain players are doing on every play then how can they find someone that a coach needs? If attending a game is just a mass of humanity in a huge pile because everything happens so fast well then there is a problem. That's why guys like Miles Gorrell or Rick Worman are hired to do those jobs because they know & understand the game at the pro level. If you guys think a plumber can come in & do an engineers job you're mistaken. Now, if someone actually can break down film & know what to look for then fine. The perfect fit for a personnel guy would be someone who knows the game at the college & pro level, has contacts & has a business degree to take care of the cap & negotiate contracts. -

Just heard lots of negative stories about the guy. Wasn't well liked. Lyle Bauer's buddy. He never played the game at a high level. How can someone truly be in personnel if they have no experience coaching or playing at least at the CIS or NCAA level? How can Ross evaluate talent? I mean, if Hodgkinson was such a valuable guy to have around why is he still unemployed? He was let go last off season. No other CFL team has seen fit to hire him since which tells me what other teams think of him. If he was that good he'd have been working by now. -

Burke should just shut up. The way he's coached this year he's the last guy to call anybody out. According to Burke, if the players don't have talent then they don't have heart. Never his fault. He's done the best he could with what he's been given, right??? This guy has to go. The minute the game is over this weekend get Burke out of here. -

He was screaming in the face of Cortez & yelling at Durant to give him the ball. Then he sat & sulked on the bench by himself shaking his head. -

The mess in Winnipeg continues. I've always maintained as these 2 guys aren't permanent as they are interim. So then, be caretakers until they are made permanent. They may be making moves now that a future President, GM & Head coach don't want if they both aren't brought back. -
Be interesting to see how CJ Gable improves next year after his rookie season in Hamilton.
