I never liked Rose back in the eighties. Hearing he has joined AC/DC makes me even dislike him more. That being said Brian Johnson's voice was nothing but raspy even on his good days. Too bad about Bon Scott.

The Bombers may be owned publicly but they still have to pay their bills like every other company. They have to repay their debt to the Province & have operating expenses they need to cover or they'd go broke. They have to have money in the bank to survive like any other company.

Roll, roll, roll your boat gently downstream.

In a series of 3 tweets this afternoon, which now looks like they have been removed by Herb, he said that CFLPA President Scott Flory is facing growing opposition from players over his unwillingness to make a deal with the CFL over mandatory drug testing. Flory has been against such a measure all along & now his leadership has been challenged by Bombers Jeff Keeping over his stance. In his tweets, Zurkowsky quoted an Als player, I believe it was Marc Olivier Brouilette saying that most veterans around the league want a deal done asap as they feel it is a matter of player safety. Now, it looks like Keeping will be running for CFLPA President opposing Flory mostly because of a lack of progress over this issue. Brouilette was quoted as saying that he can always tell when a teammate is juicing as all he needs to do is look at their eyes. Like I said, I read those tweets here a couple of hours ago on the sidebar but they have since been removed. Never thought I'd see the day where active players want to see PEDS out of the game. Nice to see the players themselves come out in a positive manner to try to address the issue against Flory who may be stonewalling.

The wheels on the bus go round & round....

I won't deny you may be right. Somehow, I feel that isn't the case. But I won't dispute your POV.

The experience level of the people they hire on this team now & in the recent past can't be ignored. To me, they just didn't want to spend the cash when they had a cheaper alternative. In the case of Joe Mack, my understanding from everything I heard is that Paul Robson & Joe Pop were on the BOD's at that time. They were buddy-buddy with Mack from their days with the team going back to the mid 80's. Those 2 pushed hard to hire Mack over Barker.

Same with your take on the Stamps. You've been living in AB for awhile now. You know that the Stamps never steal other coaches from other teams, never sign high profile FA's for big bucks & even release key veteran players like Keon Raymond who can still play over contract issues. They don't strike me as a team that has a bottomless pit of money. They do pay Huff a lot of money but the guy has earned it. If anything, Huff runs a very tight ship financially & makes some pretty cold decisions when he thinks he has to.

Why would you be flamed? It is a reasonable response.

Actually TWO qbs that can play...

This isn't a discussion about football ops per se. It's the Bombers willingness to spend the money to hire the right people at the President, GeneralManager & Head Coaching positions. Mike says that maybe the Bombers have restrictions on money spent while you maintain a team like Calgary has a bottomless pit of money so they can hire & keep quality people & we can't. My take is that the BOD's here could but won't spend the money needed to bring in experienced CFL people with successful tack records. So, they bring in unproven people as that way the team doesn't have to spend as much. The hiring record (especially) of the last 10 years seems to bear that out in my opinion.

Brandon, great point so we'll see how it goes with LaPo. You may be pleasantly surprised.
-
Well, the only way to look at it is this regime & previous regimes & the people who ran the Bombers during those times where you are free to draw your own conclusions. We hired Mack over Barker. According to Miller, when he was looking for a GM he never looked outside the organization to hire Walters & just promoted him from interim to permanent GM. The last decade every head coach was inexperienced. Some did better than others but didn't last (Berry) while others were abysmal failures (Burke).

Stubler left Calgary to go back to Toronto. Stubler can't stay in one place more than a few years so using him as an example may not be the best.
-
Are you in the camp of... (1) Mike O'Shea walks on water or (2) Only when it's frozen? Just asking.
-
So, if you're right... that decision rests with the BOD's. As I've been saying all along. Maybe we'll finally have a bounce back season but if we don't we're back to Square One all over again.
-
If we have another bad season then we'll see how proactive the BOD's will be.
-
Qualified coaches & GMS will come if you pay them. You have to pay them.
-
The difference? The Stamps pay to have qualified people in place. The Bombers don't. Absolutely it's deliberate or we'd have seen different people running the show here after 2013.
-
No, absolutely not. You're 110% wrong. The Bombers refuse to spend money to get guys in here that know how to win. With every head coaching & GM change it's always the same. Hire people with no experience because it doesn't cost as much as it would to hire experienced people. Why is it we continually have rookie head coaches here despite all the failures? Why is it we hire GM's with little or no experience? You can thank our Board Of Director. Is it any wonder this team has sucked for years? We brought in a triad of inexperienced people to run the show in Miller, Walters & O'Shea after we already had a group of inexperienced management & coaches with the previous regime before that? A massive rebuild was needed yet we hired 3 people who never did any of this before. It starts with the BOD's & permeates down from there. Don't tell me that Calgary has been successful just because they have a bottomless pit of money. They have resources but it's not bottomless. Instead, let's talk about the Bombers refusal, their absolute refusal to spend the money on qualified people to run the team. The team could bring in experienced people but it doesn't want to. That's the issue holding us back, I believe.
-
Ownership & management. Noeller says the Stamps have a bottomless pit of money. They don't. The Stamps never go crazy in free agency. We have a salary cap so every team spends the same. It's the people running the Bombers that are the problem starting at the Board of Directors on down.
-
Sure, that makes it okay.
-
We have nothing in this country that even comes close to that in Canada.
-
Why does it always have to be an either/or? I like the Stamps method, only 2 years out of the last 27 seasons out of the playoffs, 5 Grey Cup championships, 8 appearances & the winningest record of all CFL teams since 1990. Always fielding a competitive, winning team. It doesn't have to be either/or. We just think it has to be that way as the Bombers have been an either/or team.
