Your expectations for the Bombers in 2014?
Noeller replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
It's easy to make reasonable assumptions. Most of our coaching staff is set. We will have one of Collaros, Willy or Burris at QB. Likely sign a few free agents and bring in some new bodies from down south to compete. Looks like everyone wants to be difficult here so feel free to lock this thread. Honestly, and again I'm not trying to be difficult, I have no idea how to assume anything about this club right now. I have no idea if we'll see guys like Jovon or Stewart back. No clue if we're going to run with Will Ford or bring in a starter from college. Even the familiar faces are full of question marks right now so it's just so hard to have any idea. this....absolutely no clue right now, but I'm excited to find out more... -
Seconded...

Noel's fine...good coach...that roster is the shits, period. He's got way more outta them than anybody had any right to.
-
Good riddance...I hope Stala retires.

Steinhauer really seems like someone that fits what we're trying to do in Wpg. If they can give him some kind of a token "upgrade" to bring him over on a lateral move, that would work, I think...

I don't think Howell can be judged properly by the mess that the entire team was. Need a better all-around offense to judge it properly...

We need another Al Ford era...thin out THEIR ranks a little...

Bombers hire Queens DC Pat Tracey as Special Teams Coordinator
Noeller replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
It's all very interesting, and as a huge "rah rah Canada!" guy, there's part of me that loves being All Canadian and giving a giant F*** You to the idea that NCAA/NFL experience is oh-so-important. Thing is, tho.....that is important. Nobody here is naive enough to think that CIS football is anywhere near NCAA, both in quality of players and in quality of coaching. So have we gone TOO FAR in terms of being All Canadian on the coaching staff? -

Bombers hire Queens DC Pat Tracey as Special Teams Coordinator

Not sure how much I love a guy going from CIS co-ordinator to CFL co-ordinator, tho this guy sounds pretty well respected. It's one thing to go from CIS HC to CFL co-ordinator, but this is a really big jump for this guy. Hopefully it works out! -
Getzlaf, Muamba, Laurent, Cornish, Harris But he's quite possibly 6. Cauchy ahead of Cornish? hmmm.... Your wit is AMAZING. Yeah..seriously...I don't understand the lame jokes. Is this like a Norm McDonald stand-up routine where it's on purpose, or.....??

Barron Miles signs a 2 year extension with the Riders......does this mean the road is clear for Greg Marshall to return?

Was an article a while back from Millions, I think, saying that there's rumblings behind the scenes among a bunch of private sector oil and gas types, who want to build a giant arena/stadium joint complex thing up at the site of the McMahon. Would mean the end of the arena's tie-in with Calgary Stampede but so be it. It's on the LRT line and an overall good location. Huge money and will have to be almost entirely private sector, but with Edmonton getting a new arena and both Saddledome/McMahon on last legs (especially after the flood damage!) they're going to need to do something soon..

Word from Madani and others today is that this is paving the way for MLSE to buy the Argos and operate them outta BMO. They apparently want to host a GC in there. They'd operate the Argos as a "boutique" franchise, which would allow an NFL franchise to be a "big time" show operating out of SkyDoom....

Merry Christmas and all the best in 2014 to everyone at MBB! Here's to a big playoff run for the Blue n Gold in 2014!!

Stubler New Stamps Defensive Coordinator
Noeller replied to iso_55's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
So Tait is tweeting some Stubler quotes from the Calgary Herald. Basically sounds like Stubs and his new wife wanted to stay close to BC, so Calgary made more sense. Said it was a tough decision because he and MOS go back a long way, and he really feels like Walters/MOS have it figured out and will turn it around, but Calgary made more sense to them right now. -
Gary Etcheverry interviewed for Bombers DC job
Noeller replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Are there people on here seriously unaware of Gary and Sam Etcheverry? Legendary CFL figures, the both of them...tho not necessarily for the right reasons all the time. I'd probably prefer going with an "up-and-comer" like a Barron Miles, as DC, rather than a wildcard like Etch... -
What's the story on how we ended up with this guy? Did we draft him or was he an undrafted FA that we put on the neg list?

Stubler New Stamps Defensive Coordinator
Noeller replied to iso_55's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I was really looking forward to this one. Brutal to get scooped and now it looks like we're going to be a REALLY young staff with no real superstars on it.... -
I'm no raging fan of MB, but there just weren't really many options out there. This was a tough time to be hunting for an OC. Lapo mighta been a better OC right now, but I'm not sure that'd be the right situation.

Would this actually work though? A gentleman's agreement like this is risky if this is a guy you really never wanted to lose. Winnipeg has lost communication with him now and have no control over what happens now that he is Ottawa's property. It was big risk to take if this was indeed the plan because the negotiating window for MD has now opened up. Here's the opportunity for them to use their resources exclusively to get Kohlert to sign an extension. Remember that he's the only FA they have. He's also Canadian and the most experienced receiver they have at the moment. Maybe it happens as you say and Kohlert comes back in February, but if I was him, I'd be a little interested to hear what my new team is willing to offer me. again, as I said, its about whether or not you trust a guy and his agent. Do you risk something like this with Frito or Milt in their prime? Probably not. But with Dough Alert? The risk isn't that great.
-
I'd probably feel a little more sympathetic, if this wasn't the billionth time we've had to resurecct and support a team from Ottawa. **** them and their never-ending futility. If they are successful on their own merit, then great. But not at the expense of our already-lousy team.
-
If you trust a guy, and you trust that he'll go along with a side-deal that says "...Listen, we want you, but we can't protect everyone. You're a FA, so we're going to leave you unprotected and hopefully they take you. But don't worry...on Feb 15, we'll just turn around and sign the deal we've talked about..." then it's a brilliant move on the team's part. If this is really what ends up happening, then I love it. Good on Walters, good on Dough Alert, good for us and a giant f*** you to the ****** canoes who want their name in all caps.....win win win win..

Well, there was talk that we're gonna try and go after Tsoumpas, but the questions are a) Will he come here and Is he healthy? (PCS)
