  1. Every time you see or hear him talk it sounds like he is having a ton of fun I'm curious to see how he handles the local morons (Friesen) when or if the team struggles early on. Oh he's already preparing to tell Mike O'Shea how to do his job.... Paul Friesen ‏@friesensunmedia 7m Went to #Bombers camp today, and had a Mike Kelly flashback. Column on Coach O'Shea's rookie mistake, up later at http://winnipegsun.com
  2. I liked Dutch a lot when he use to lead the panel back in the day. That being said if the only way to get Rod Black out of play by play would be shifting him into the role I would gladly do that. Always have thought Gord Miller does 10X the job of calling football than Black does.
  3. Interesting comment... Darrin Bauming ‏@DarrinBauming 38s Mike O'Shea says RB Kevin Smith had priorities outside of the #Bombers and releasing him wasn't a hard decision.
  4. He signed a three year deal last year with a $5,000 signing bonus. He'll earn a base of $495,000 this year so in terms of his contact he's far from safe. That being said he did get a chance to show himself because of injuries last year to the Packers. He struggled at first but towards the end showed flashes of being capable. I don't know that he'll be anything more from a depth player with the team. However, I don't think he gets cut based on the fact that he was undrafted and managed to work himself into the lineup and have a decent showing. He'll get the full year with the team for sure and unless he regresses will likely get 2015 as well.
  5. Regarding the Sun being a pay site and the 10 article limit - Delete the Sun cookies in your history after your 10th article and you can keep reading. Simple loophole really.
  6. DB could see a surprise cut too, we have a hell of a lot of rookie DB's. 9 rookie imports, plus guys like Markett, Dunn and a whole bunch of new NI's too. Kent and Hefney cut the last two years in training camp... Speaking of Hefney, any appetiite to bring him back for another look considering the amount of DB rooks we have or has that shipped sailed? Good Lord no. I don't know of any one game he played in last year where he could actually walk away thinking to himself he played well. Huff took him off the 42 after 3 weeks or so I believe.
  7. LOL - please tell me that you didn't just equate Dieter Brock with Michael Bishop. There's having an arm and a brain, and just an arm. I hope Marve has both like Dieter did (unless he was at the zoo), but we will see. Bottom line - Brock couldn't get the job done. What matters at the end of the day is how many rings you have and he ended up with none and we traded him. Even better we beat him in the Grey Cup with a guy who had half the arm (if he was lucky) that Brock did which even further drives home my point. A cannon arm means nothing in the grand scheme of things. It's only a small piece of the puzzle and far from a prerequisite to be a good quarterback. Until Marve (which is the point in all of this) demonstrates in a game he has a brain to go with his arm, frankly, he's just another likely TCF.
  8. Those of us that remember Dieter Brock in his prime still hunger for a guy that could huck a ball 50 yards with a flick of his wrist. Dieter could throw a football through a car wash and it would be still be dry on the other side. Yes that gives me a chubby, and I'm proud to say it. Michael Bishop could do the same. How did that turn out for the teams he played with? How many rings does either have as a starter of their team? As I said, I get that it's nice to have. It's fun to watch. There are still more important skills for a QB to have.
  9. Players could still cross even with a strike in place. Vote or no vote doesn't necessarily indicate how united they are. That being said I obviously don't know how likely that is to actually happen.
  10. From Jason Pottinger...I wonder what he considers tweeting the opposing side of the bargaining table in an unflattering way to be. @JasonAMT: @CFLMikeCopeland your PR bullying tactics are embarrassing, and unprofessional. We stand United as a union. #CFL #CFLPA
  11. I'm sorry but I can't help but chuckle at the people enamoured with a big arm QB. Is it nice to have? Sure of course. But until you've shown that you can read a defence at a professional level (far more important than any one skill, including a big arm) you haven't done squat. Lets wait until the exhibition games before we start getting a little chubby in the pants shall we?
  12. I'm not a big Nick Moore fan and stuff like this is why. He is one of those guys that I'll cheer for on the field but I don't have much use for off of it. It's like he's been diagnosed with Jovon Johnson Syndrome. Couldn't have said it any better. Seems like another keyboard warrior.
  13. Funny, Nick Moore wasn't complaining when he signed his over valued contract in free agency... Nick M. ‏@NickMoore_1 2m Report to camp, "in good faith"....lmao come on man
  14. Arash Madani ‏@ArashMadani 51s Very, very little has changed from the #CFL proposal to the players from eight days ago. Average $5 mil cap last week. Now up to about $5.1.
  15. @scratchingpost: #CFLPA VP Marwan Hage: "It's two steps forward, ten steps backward." #CFL
  16. Matthew Scianitti ‏@TSNScianitti 2m #CFLPA source says players will be told to attend training camp "in good faith" until the union reviews all its options. #CFL
  17. Wow is the PA ever a joke. Amateur hour at the bargaining table.
  18. Personally, I think the CFL has made a reasonable offer to the PA. Not every team is making the kind of cash that the Riders are, and even with the new TV deal teams like Toronto and Hamilton (despite the new stadium) are on shaky ground at the best of times. Add the fact that attendance is steadily declining in Montreal and Ottawa has already failed twice makes the sunshine and rainbows image the PA is trying to portray somewhat laughable. It's hard to take them seriously with their offers nevermind their PR skills (lack there of) as shown last week.
  19. If there's one thing in pro sports I can't stand, it's athletes who don't stand behind comments they obviously meant. Say what you mean, and mean what you say. What a joke. Kind of like the CFLPA.
  20. Peach I'd imagine is a pretty inexpensive player to have. Decent depth guy. Could very easily cut him if a rookie or two shows better in camp.
  21. Is life really THAT bad for the players if they are still signing contracts? The hypocrisy is hilarious.
  22. Guys make $45,000 a year & you want to break them? That's utterly ridiculous. Why not just find another league to follow? If Cohon's figures are in fact true in his release, the league average is just shy of $93,000. That's plenty.
  23. The players association is such a joke. Whether they like it or not, given the money involved they'll cave MUCH sooner than the owners will. The past 24 hours has shown who the amateurs really are between the league and the players. As an aside, I must say the tweets I find particularly amusing are players that have been complaining that have just signed contracts this off season. Moore and Kuale come to mind immediately. I'm sure there are others.
  24. Not a chance. Some players in the league shouldn't be playing professional football as it is. No need to increase that number. It would be a disaster.
  25. If they average salary would indeed be just shy of $93,000, that is MORE than enough for the players. What a joke.
