  1. True but in fairness this article says a potential trade would be for a low draft pick. Regardless, we already have one veteran who constantly gets beat time and again. We don't need a second or need to give up a potential future special teamer to get a second.
  2. Yeah taking Solomon Elimimian on head on is definitely playing not to lose...
  3. And there's a difference between playing to win and being stupid and taking unnecessary risks and forcing things that aren't there that costs you games. At 39 he still hasn't found that happy medium.
  4. Smith made $400k last season. No chance in hell.
  5. gary lawless ‏@garylawless1m Expect #bombers to name Gary Etchevery as DC and he'll bring in Nelson Martin to coach DBs. Deals in final stages of completion. #bn
  6. Am I missing something, was Tsoumpas suppose to sign with the Bombers ? No, but he was on the wish list of quite a few for sure.
  7. Thought there were rumours at the end of the year that Dressler was open to coming here...? Not sure on the validity but a nice thought none the less.
  8. Well that's a swift kick in the junk.
  9. There is nothing wrong or undesirable with the above scenario whatsoever.
  10. Chris Matthews is easily replaceable. He isn't someone I'd be fretting over. If he signs that's great. If not, there are plenty of receivers out there to be found.
  11. Unless there is something going on with the NFL, this makes zero sense whatsoever. You don't cut a pending FA to give other teams a chance to talk to him. You do what BC did last year with Reilly and trade his rights and get a return.
  12. Avoid slagging ticket sales, being the laughing stock of the league again, etc. The problems on this team go beyond just the quarterback position. It needs a lot of help elsewhere too. Burris himself is not going to make this a championship football team.
  13. I think the concern (and rightfully so) over Burris is that he is a band-aid solution at best. At 39 years old, while he would give us good play at the position we are right back to square one come 2016 (Assuming Collaros indeed goes to Hamilton and we don't sign Willy as well). The argument that he's bad in cold weather is justified to a degree, but we certainly won't be Grey Cup contenders this year, and it's unlikely we will be contenders in 2015 as well with how much work this team needs so I'm not sure I'd be stressing to much about play come November when we won't have legitimate shot at competing for a championship anyway.
  14. Which is too bad because the guy who had thrown 77 career passes in the CFL before last year looked quite solid on the field.
  15. My biggest knock is that he's got a silly last name. Really? What's wrong with saying in the 4th quarter with one final drive "We need Willy to come up big!".....
  16. Very happy with the move. Feel Suber gets unfairly singled out, despite the fact that more often than not he is taking on the opposition's best playmaker. There's been many times he's turned Jamel Richardson into a whiny little school girl and no one talks about it.
  17. He's able to avoid the rush and make plays, but a 4.94 40 time doesn't exactly scream mobile in the sense most people think about when it comes to quarterbacks. You aren't going to see Willy running option reads, bootlegs, etc. In comparison, five offensive lineman ran 4.95 or better in last year's scouting combine.
  18. This. No. Not this. Why break yet another prospect behind a shoddy o-line? we all know we cant rebuild an o-line in a season... Hell probably not even in 2.. In those 2 seasons, a "pocket passer" qb can go from confident to scared and gunshy real quick, possibly beyond repair... We have all seen it happen.. Best to bring in a mobile QB who can throw as well (who are better suited to the CFL anyway) and give him and us a chance while we rebuild that o-line.. I'll never understand people that get such a hard on for mobile passers or say they are better suited for the CFL. Is it a nice asset to have? Sure it is but the primary job is to be able to throw the ball and throw it well. Willy does it better. Period. Too many fans see football like a Madden video game where you can plug a player into any situation and it will be fine.
  19. No chance.
  20. This.
  21. http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Prospect-of-the-day-Cincinnati-QB-Zach-Collaros.html http://www.draftinsider.net/reports/2012/QB/Zach-Collaros Two scouting reports on Collaros that question his footwork and his ability under pressure. http://walterfootball.com/scoutingreport2009dwilly.php Willy is noted for being solid under pressure - and whoever is here will need to be at least in 2014 because the line is going to need some time to be considered in the upper echelon in the CFL. Not saying Collaros is a bad QB or anything like that. He's proven he's capable. I just don't think he fits here with what we have. Yes the sample size is smaller on Willy (sample size was even smaller on Reilly if you recall but showed he's a pretty good passes this year) but Willy can do the things you need done in Winnipeg. I'm not convinced Collaros can bring that.
  22. Yes and that is why he isn't playing in the NFL? How is that relevant? Ray gives you the complete package as a QB (Reading a defense, accuracy, knowing what passes need touch, footwork, mechanics, etc) but is not in the NFL. It's relevant because you said he is the complete package. Obviously he's not, or he would still be playing there. Just because Ray plays well in the CFL doesn't mean he would ever be a very good NFL quarterback. I'll take him, but if you read some of the scouting reports, they're good, but he is not the complete package. Of course it doesn't. That's why the Jets cut him when Ray tried the NFL during training camp. The point was is that Ray (and Willy, though they are different style of passers) do everything well that you need to do to be successful in the CFL. Your NFL point is irrelevant.
  23. If you go back and watch some highlights on YouTube of Argos games (or look at some scouting reports of Collaros) his footwork and mechanics break down under pressure, hence my hesitance on him being the guy here behind our presently crap offensive line.
