  1. Welcome to pro sports everybody, where teams go through eras of success, and eras of limited success. You see it in every other sport, and the CFL is no different. Soon enough we'll have a very strong team and the Riders won't. That's how sports works.
  2. Remember Goltz's TD Red Zone % was #1 in the league this season prior to him being benched..... so that point is fairly moot.... Goltz was a glorified running back at best, so that counter point is moot.
  3. I find it funny how people always talk about the Berry Kelly interference when many forget about the Ritchie Daley interference as well. Bauer was good in his off field actions. His interference when it comes to the on field product puts a huge damper on his legacy here. I'm glad the board said no. Keep him away from this franchise.
  4. I agree that the optics of hiring Khari may look questionable. That being said he does have good qualifications. Of course, if he wins, who gives donkey balls about the optics?
  5. But but but....what if Burke is kept as head coach? This was done since Mack was let go. Burke was dead man walking. The first domino of many, now lets not mess this up this time around shall we boys?
  6. it was Tim Burke's defense that brought this club to Grey Cup in 2011. Previous to that he's defense is in Grey Cup 3 consecutive years. i admit he's a bad head coach but he's a very good defensive coordinator. Swaggerville in Winnipeg and AC in his prime in Montreal being the bigger reasons than Tim Burke. While in Montreal due to Calvillo+Cahoon and co., any defensive coordinator would of had it easy. They called themselves Swaggerville in '10 as well, and had minimal roster turnover the next year. With Reed they were average at best. Burke made them great in 2011.
  7. The Chris Jones point is moot. Why would he leave Toronto for a lateral move?
  8. If there was some sort of situation where the coach wouldn't be forced, and would actually WANT Burke as the DC, I'd be all for it. Just as his track record as a head coach speaks for itself, so does his track record as a DC. I'd be all for it only if it was something all parties mutually wanted.
  9. Hey, what happens if the Bombers get Peyton Manning next year? Seriously? Pointless thread.
  10. You mean guys like: Burke, PLAP, Kelly, Hawkins, Reed, Hall, Marshall, Cortez, Bellefeuille and Taffe? All guys who were unproven, said to have the right qualities and failed at least in their first season. Being said to have the right qualities and actually having them are entirely different things you know. Of course I understand that. The point is that we don't know if they have the right stuff until we give them a chance and if we are wrong, we are back to square one and we have to spin the rebuild wheel yet again. Another point is that all the successful newbie HC's have vet staffs all around them. We simply don't have the vet staff in place to support a newbie HC to give them the best chance to be successful. And those newbie head coaches pick their assistants - they aren't picked for them.
  11. One thing I forgot to mention in my GM posting - Another reason for my desire to go for Willy is that as a free agent signee, you save yourself needing to give up picks and possible players. Sure the draft isn't deep as has been said a number of times, but that doesn't mean that there won't be players that come in and perform well above expectations. Our CDN depth is not great, so if we can land an unexpected gem with a pick that we'd have to give away, and get a solid QB in the process, I think that's the route we should take.
  12. Can you elaborate more on the "Get Collaros or Willy"? You're the first one here to comment on Drew Willy. Maybe you could explain why you would want Willy, and what you would do to get him here. You're the GM, make it happen. I thought Willy has shown as much promise as Collaros. Both are still very much "prospects." He's a Free Agent next year is he not? Call his agent, or better yet call Willy at home. "Tamper" with him through his friends or get his teammates to do it, as Milt used to do for us. A good GM can play within the blurred lines and get what he wants while still respecting the spirit of the cap and tampering. Don't agree with you often but yes, Willy IMO does have more promise. I also think he is a lot more polished at this stage currently.
  13. You mean guys like: Burke, PLAP, Kelly, Hawkins, Reed, Hall, Marshall, Cortez, Bellefeuille and Taffe? All guys who were unproven, said to have the right qualities and failed at least in their first season. Sorry but your argument is terribly flawed. For every failure there is as an unproven head coach, there are success stories like Huffer, Chamblin, Benevides, Trestman, Milanovich, Austin. You're going to have to do better than that. You can also scratch Taffe from that list as his first HC job was in Montreal and he did very good things there. His time in Hamilton was marred by a clueless GM in Marcel Desjardins, and free agent busts like Josh Ranek and Casey Printers, and the failed Jason Maas trade. Also, since you mentioned "first season" in your post, if you're expecting this team to do a complete 180 in a single year, you will be terribly disappointed. It is going to take at least 2 years to make this team good, 3 years to make it elite, assuming the correction decisions are made by all involved. ...Did I just win the internet?
  14. Head coach - Dave Dickenson. Everyone else are just also rans, a distant second. I don't care the price, just go get him. Period. Walters is my GM and Worman is my director of player personnel. I know Walters doesn't have GM experience prior to this year, but I've been impressed with his moves so far, and I REALLY like the time he has put into mock drafting the expansion and the CFL draft so far. Worman is a quality CFL man, his knowledge would be great on the staff. Contrary to most people, I'm taking the free agency route and I'm getting Drew Willy. I love what this kid can do. While Collaros has shown good things, I have concerns with consistency (specifically starting slow), mechanics, and how he handles the pass rush. That being said, I won't be disappointing if ZC is our guy, Willy is just my number one. I'd also be fine with Tate but I don't see that happening. Assuming I get Willy in free agency, my protection list looks like this: QB: Hall Canadians: H. Muamba, Neufeld, Greaves, Watson, Kohlert, Swiston Americans: Turner, Dunn, Miles, January, Jones, Parker, Wild, Anderson, Sears, Washington I figure Ottawa takes Poblah so with that my next round of protections are Pencer, Etienne, Labbe, Volny, Thomas, Parenteau Free agents - Henoc is the #1 priority obviously. Kohlert, Labbe and Etienne in that order for Canadians. American free agents - I love what I've seen from Wallace Miles so I make sure I go and get him. I'm not bringing back Jovon Johnson so signing Stewart is a priority. Other teams free agents - Not sure how accurate or inaccurate the rumors are about Andrew Harris and his relationship with the B.C. Lions but if he makes it out as a free agent, I'm all over him faster than a fat kid on doughnuts. Secondary target is Tsumpas. Solid O-Lineman that would be a great contributor here. CIS - Admittedly I have not paid nearly as much attention as I do typically. I've been very uninterested for the most part, mostly because of whats been happening with the Bombers so I'm not going to speculate on the draft. I like our front seven for the most part. As for the secondary, as I said, Johnson is gone, Cauchy can collect his pink slip as well. Kicking - DeAngelis can't be back, that much is for certain. Whether you fill that hole via trade, free agency or the draft I think is up in the air. Based on what he showed in camp in the summer, I give Brett Carter a legitimate chance to make next season's roster.
  15. Madani is very credible. Despite his personal opinions about the team, he doesn't say stuff simply because he has nothing better to do.
  16. Arash Madani ‏@ArashMadani1m Per the rumour that Khari Jones is the next #Bombers coach: The #SskRoughriders tell me nobody has asked permission to speak with him. #CFL
  17. Miller is starting to lose me. Was thinking the exact same thing.
  18. And not really Bomber related, but involves a few ex Bomber coaches... Arash Madani ‏@ArashMadani4m Conversations within #CFL circles: Rick Campbell, as the next #Eskimos head coach, would bring Mark Nelson from the #Alouettes as his DC.
  19. More from Madani: Arash Madani ‏@ArashMadani1m #CFL sources: Wade Miller tried to bring Chris Walby onto the #Bombers coaching staff when he took over as CEO. Got push back. No hire.
  20. This team needs to stop taking flyers on a head coach. Dickenson is by far the most qualified man and this organization needs to be sending a blank cheque to Calgary the instant their season comes to an end. As far as Reed for DC goes....obviously many people forget how many big plays our defence gave up in 2010 when he had the job. A big no thanks!
  21. He retired and said F U to the CFL based on horrible he was treated. Don't you remember Kelly demanding him to take a pay cut mid season because he was injured (only after being put in a position of where he was getting hit frequently since the plays kelly designed took forever to develop therefore he had to hold onto the ball very long). Lefors was the guy who beat out Jyles (don't care if you think he sucked but he wasn't that bad) and then was traded to Winnipeg for a 1st rounder... the guy was talented. Wow - You are so out to lunch with this post I don't know where to start, but I'll try. Kelly demanding him to take a pay cut has nothing to do with anything here, not sure why it was even brought up. The offence in that time was not slow developing at all. It relied heavily on playaction and the QB being under centre to make his pre-snap reads - something LeFors was terrible at. Kelly would say this verbatim when people questioned why we didn't use the shotgun which of course changed then the team signed Michael Bishop. LeFors had more interceptions than touchdowns (8 to 6 to be exact) in 2007 and a completion percentage just above 60 percent in 2007 when Ray was lost for the season with a separated shoulder. Furthermore, LeFors did not win a single game he started in place of Ray. To go even further, the following year Edmonton brought back Jason Maas to be behind Ray even after his debacle in Hamilton because they were so dissatisfied with LeFors. Also, in the five starts LeFors did get in Ray's absence, the team failed to score 20 points three times. LeFors also was not traded for a first round pick - it was a second round pick, plus a conditional pick.
  22. If LeFors was just fine, teams would have been more than willing to give him another chance after the season. Yes the offence sucked - He sucked as well.
  23. Tee Martin's career was single handedly ruined by Kamau Peterson. That guy coulda been something... 5 yards past the DB, perfectly thrown ball and falls right through his arms. Play happened right in front of me, couldn't believe my eyes. That's one play I don't think I'll ever forget.
  24. For all the hype he got at the time for being "the best backup QB in the league" at the time, Pat Barnes sure looked like crap every time he played for us. Brian Stallworth and Bryan Randall also come to mind. Also surprised no one has brought up Stefan LeFors yet.
