  1. And drugs are going to be priced like the US. Very scary.
  2. The winners and losers have little to do with the individual countries involved. The TPP like all other free trade agreements before it mainly opens the door to unfettered market access for multi-national corporations. The Mom and Pop dairy farm (which we like) will become a thing of the past for the most part only to be replaced by industrial scale dairy ops (which we hate). Betsy can kiss the sun goodbye for evermore but I for one, can hardly wait to save $2.00 on that swell Chinese ice cream! Unfortunately common sense will never trump the dollar. How? Dairy is going to face at best very muted external competition and they are getting compensated for that handsomely
  3. didn't Benevides have a weird extentention that wasn't really an extension when he got canned? Obviously there is the flexibility to add conditions.
  4. sounds like they are compensating people to the tune of billions. I don't know what from though as dairy imports will only increase 3.25% from what is pretty a very small amount of imports (10%) apparently all supply managed producers are mostly protected. http://www.ctvnews.ca/business/trans-pacific-partnership-agreement-key-points-that-impact-canada-1.2595268
  5. It isn't subsidized through taxes. The consumer is paying an inflated price because the supply is artificially constrained. Lets say we made it so that only 100 bottles of Cola can be sold in Canada in a given year. How much do you think the price of Cola would sky rocket? That is basically what has happened with milk (though obviously more then 100 bottles can be sold) However, tt is not just milk that is supply managed, it is cheese, eggs, and poultry as well. root vegetable too. Peak of the market isn't your friend. They fix the price of root vegetable and constrain supply. It is illegal to import root vegetables for direct sale to consumers, or to grow root vegetable for sale if you are not a part of peak of the market. This constrained supply allows them to set a price above what a competitive market would allow. basically everything healthy and good for you is supply managed and processed foods are fair game. So it isn't just will power that has led to an obese society its price fixing of homogenous foods.
  6. how much milk do you drink? It's not even about how much dairy I consume. Its about all the money our health care system wastes treating people with lifestly diseases (type 2 diabetes) when milk is 5 bucks a litre or more, artifically above demand due to commie practices and soda is a buck a litre Not the government's job to tell people to stop drinking soda by the keg. Although in general Im in favour of "sin" taxes including on things like soda which have zero value to humans and do harm (and I say THAT as a reformed Pepsi addict who LOVES Dr Pepper).Neither Milk nor Soda is a necessity. So the price should be market driven. I agree it should be market driven. Supply management isnt market driven.

  8. Look it up. They are expensive because no one can import from anywhere, not just the US and this agreement changes little. New Zealand wants to export dairy to us, do they subsidize too? If anyone should be against the commie farm practices in canada it should be you.
  9. sweet, dairy prices don't seem to be going down. I like paying twice what the Americans do for dairy.
  10. steelers cut their kicker for his performance on Thursday and it was bad but Liram bad
  11. Really? Seems to be firmly in second now don't they? #peoplelikenenshi was in support of the cons?
  12. I think there was some poorly done poll on it a while ago. Frankly the political momentum seems to have turned firmly against the torys on this issue the more people educate them self on it. I don't blame the torys for trying to throw a hail mary wedge issue into the mix but it appears to have backfired
  13. Cut him
  14. I've never had parlor coffee but tims is complete swill
  15. LOL - this made me guffaw... Starbucks coffee is mainstream now. Hipsters go to parlor coffee and places like that.
  16. Funny I'm pretty sure they benched that program to put money in mars exploration. And hypocrisy sure isn't limited to democrats
  17. Im pretty happy that I didn't get polio as a kid. Big ups to whoever figured out that deal
  18. None of the polls have a difference between the parties outside the margin of error.
  19. I actually think there is a right wing media spin. The major outlets are nice and objective, with the exception of cbc. Sun media is a pretty offensive right wing shill and despite some not knowing what left wing is, the left wing equivalent of sun media isn't ctv or the globe. It's some granola university radio station that isn't national representation. Cbc isn't even at the same left wing level that sun media is to the right.
  20. Wow you're so objective about what can be politicized!
  21. Wouldn't having 3 parties on one side of center and 1 on the other adjust where the center is? if you stand in the center of the room and three people stand on one side of you and one stands on the other, it doesnt change where the center of the room is. yeah its not geography. The center lies in different places in different countries depending on how distributed the populations political beliefs are. A more appropriate analogy would be, if you take a room and add or remove an addition one one side, has the middle of the room moved. Yup, no one said it wasnt. Point is the same. no its different, would expect it to be lost on you though.

  24. Yeah we can end up down 50 to 3
