Green is such a hideous colour. You can't sell green, unless there's nothing else to do in the province. -
I generally prefer consumption taxes as a form of taxation. I think income/investment tax stifles the desire to work/save. The only extra tax I could get on board with is a tax on sugar. If people want to give themsleves diabetes they can kick extra money into healthcare the way the smokers do. Obbiously I wouldn't want this as an extra tax but the net revenue from this to be reduced from investment/income tax.

I rent an appt. I priced out buying an equivielnt condo downtown and it would run me much more a month. Plus I'm not likely long for living in Winnipeg and CMCH/other closing costs amortized over a year or 2 is a complete rip off. Plus I do too well on my investments to tie up a down payment in a condo. Different strokes for different folks. With condo fees you have the right idea. $400 isn't bad if in includes all that and $100 bucks can be a rip off it just includes snow removal and water. Before I'd buy a 280K condo I'd take a look at what the equivalent appartment would run me a month and how that compares to the non principal parts of the condo purchase. I'd als look at what I could do with the downpayment in a different part of investment landscape.

I projected him to start at RG, but he'll have to battle Goossen for that spot. What I mean is that he's actually played RT in Sask and when he came in, it seemed like he was a 'ratio changer' we had been looking for... I would suspect that with him being a bit of an injury concern you don't want to play him at tackle without having another Canadian who can slide into that position if he gets hurt. He plays guard then in the event of injury you're only making one move on the OL and you don't have to change the ratio at all. That makes very little sense. First if he was playing RT and he got hurt. It would only be one move on the OL, replacing the RT with an American and changing the ratio. Secondly, I doubt that they play the ratio a way they don't want to all year because if they play it in a more advantageous way, an oft injured player might get hurt and force them to play the ratio in the same way they don't want to but are going to anyways to supposedly solve the problem. That's like saying "I like steak but if I buy it, it might go bad and that will force me to eat top ramen. So I'll avoid the problem by eating ramen anyways. If he isn't playing RT it's cause he isn't good enough. You can't have a capable backup for every starting CDN.

The market has spoken - SUN News Network has shutdown

No I'm not talking human rights, I'm talking anything on the right. I see it all the time on the internet. People had no trouble lambasting the view on networks like sun news, yet citing blogs from incredibly biased left wingers as truth. The left is very intolerant to anything other than their world view. Look at how much **** Alberta gets for maintaining low taxes. The left won't hear of any sort of positive, it's just a travesty and barbaric that they're not gouging the populace in order to spend spend spend. Alberta needs a PST as we haven't enough revenue when oil prices tank like now. I hate taxes but this seems like a no brainer to me, 17. Alberta needed a PST when things were going well. Stick some cash away for a rainy day (like now). Tie it to the price of oil (set annually) so it reduces when oil prices go down and increases when they go up. And then when employment drops as oil price has dropped, use the funds to maintain infastructure and the like. Labour is cheaper (less competition). Now would be a good time to build proper roads to Fort Mack, if they had had the foresight to put money aside for it. Alberta has a rainy day fund. Trouble is they've mismanaged it. The simple fact is that in the past 10 years the population of Alberta has absolutely boomed. Going from a population of about 3 million to 4 million is a huge influx of people and the way King Ralph ran things prioritizing getting out of debt rather than keeping up with infrastructure spending has left the province with a deficit of infrastructure and they gotta spend now to build it. There is a ton of spending going on in Alberta and has been for a while now. They used the money to pay for it rather than investing in the rainy day fund so what's really the difference? People like to talk about Norway and their huge wealth fund, but what's going to happen when Norways oil is used up? They going to just have the government pay everyone rather than have them involved in the production of oil? No matter how much money Alberta put away in a rainy day fund when the oil is gone it's gone and the province will need a diversified economy. They can do it though, there's a highly skilled and educated workforce there and a business friendly environment. It will adapt as oil become less viable. A soverign wealth fund is used to diversify an economy away from resources. It isn't there to cut residents a cheque in perpetuity after the oil dries up. OK so you just pay a company to do busy work then and hire people. It still amounts to a ridiculous proposition. There are plenty of ways to diversify an economy when the resources are gone. It's a government for gods sake, not like they need to save for retirement because a government never retires. Quite frankly having low taxes attracts businesses to the province. Calgary is a more diverse economy than people give it credit for I think. Yes there is a lot of oil and gas there, but there's a lot of other stuff as well. You make investments that allow you diversify your economy away from resources. It's a pretty proven concept. Abu Dhabi has a very successful one. It is a mechanism that allows you to prepare and adapt when oil becomes less viable, which is your second point. I'm curious as to how you think it is a bad thing? I'm also curious as to the better ways to diversify an economy away from resources then to save a portion of the oil revenues and specifically invest them in a targeted way to diversify the economy? -

Or, crazy thought here, you're giving Glenn far too much credit because of personal bias for the player. By this same token then, Brock Ralph is a CFL MOP save for my personal bias against him. no kidding you know what you get with KG, .500 in the regular season and choking in the playoffs. Everyone likes to talk about how he broke his arm against TO, but he barely beat Marcus Brady the week before. He had one good half of a season in 2007 then he he went way downhill when everyone figured out his quick release. I nominate throwing a late pick in the 4th quarter that kills any chance of winning a game forever be known as "Kevin Glenning it"
-
Glenn is a coach killer. Just good enough that you can't bench him, then you get fired for going .500 all the time. I'd rather have a development guy as the second string.

Sustainability and cap management. Right.. But you don't have to be under the cap until the end of the year.. Sooo.. That gives you alot of time to get it sorted out with injuries etc. Like the move, but not sure why it would be about cap space. Imagine trading a guy when everyone knows you need to dump his salary. Not negotiating from a position of strength. If he asked for a trade I like this more and more.
