  1. That's a fair point. Transperancy would be a must.
  2. Revenue sharing between teams seems like an even trade off for making players play under a cap system. Neither one is fair to the strongest members on each respective side.
  3. Did you have season tickets in section W in the old stadium? The guy in front of me, I'm guessing somewhere in his 30's, was a wrestling promoter in Winnipeg. I wonder if that was you? He came to games with a huge guy who was a wrestler. You must know Dave Petrishin (sp?) if you're in the local wrestling industry. My parents have sat with him at games for years.
  4. What use is a captain that doesn't play hard each night or when they are down??? Take his c away and give it to a hard work to lead by example. I would be happy if they traded ladd Maurice was just on Dave Naylor's radio show talking about how great of a leader Ladd is. Said he was impressed the way he got them to keep going full out even though they were out of the playoffs, especially the Saturday night game against the Leafs. He also talked about what a great show of leadership it was to voluntarily take the bag skate with his teammates when he could have skipped it due to his injury. He said the way the leadership group kept this team going at the end of the season was a big part of why he wanted to stay with the Jets. He could have found work elsewhere if he wanted to. So in summary, Ladd's a terrible captain...
  5. That's a terrible scouting report on Eberle. If by "puts up numbers almost exclusively due to volume" you mean taking a lot of shots, there are only a handful of players in the top 30 scorers who took less shots than he did this season. His Shooting % is 14.3% for his career, which is very good. His hockey sense is probably his best trait. He's small and not a top tier skater, yet he puts up good numbers every year. That's thanks to being in the right place at the right time (ie hockey sense).
  6. That line of reasoning is stupid. There are lots of reasons to trade a player other than b/c they suck.
  7. How is Marve pronounced? Is it Marv, or Marv e?
  8. It's not a hometown discount. They'll be RFA's, so their market isn't wide open.
  9. You can't play AHL the year of your draft. It's either NHL or back to junior. I don't believe that's true? JC Lipon and Brenden Kichton were both drafted this year and played in St. John's.... They're different b/c they're older. I was referring to 18 year olds.
  10. You can't play AHL the year of your draft. It's either NHL or back to junior.
  11. Good for him. His penalties were frustrating, but his otherwise general awesomeness made up for it.
  12. He has to want help from his coaches first. He reminds me of Burmistrov in that he works hard and has talent but won't adapt his game to what his coaches want him to do. From what I've read about him it sounds like his "people" are a little too involved with his career and it's causing friction with the Oilers' management & coaches.
  13. There is no chance we could get Hall for that price. He's one of the best offensive players in the league. Those type of guys don't get traded for 2nd pairing dmen & subpar goalies.
  14. Walters did mention Foucault as being one of the three best players in this draft. I forgot about that when I posted that we'd take a DL after Lavertu.
  15. I think we'll keep the pick and take a DL if Lavertu is gone. Walters said the draft only has a few really good players (IIRC he said five) and after that there's not a lot to distinguish between them.
  16. On a related note, it seems like we're signing more big school guys than we did under Mack.
  17. Feel free to merge all new signings into one thread. Kirk Penton ‏@PentonKirk 29m #Bombers sign import linebacker Leon Williams and import defensive back Brandon Hogan. #CFL Hogan sounds like he has some serious talent, but has/had injury & character issues. He still got taken in the 4th round despite wrecking his knee in college and being a trouble maker. The scouting report I read said he'd be a good starter in the NFL if he could get his crap together. Williams was also a 4th round pick. He had 17 tackles in one game in the NFL. That's better than I've ever done, so I'm impressed.
  18. Kane may be a healthy scratch tonight, as the coaching staff hasn't been happy with his play down the stretch. Does this mean Paul Maurice is racist?
  19. Or we just didn't hear about it as much b/c we don't like in Philly. They were called out a lot by their local media and eventually traded b/c they were causing trouble. There were locker room problems in Philly. The vets, especially Pronger, didn't like the way they acted and wasn't afraid to tell them. He & Richards especially didn't get along. Richards, as captain, stopped talking to the local media for awhile b/c he didn't like a story they wrote about him. So yeah, those white kids from a small town also got called out for their behaviour.
  20. That's actually funny.I wasn't aware you were unfamiliar with the actual phrase, "Who was....". It's funny how two guys made the same joke and you didn't pick up on that either time.
  21. Stompin' Tom is timeless. Age is no excuse for not knowing about him. My son is 7 and one of his favourite songs is Margo's Cargo.
  22. It's too easy to paint everybody with the same brush like that. It's very frustrating to watch him take wrist shots from just inside the blue line on a nightly basis. He has the skill level to be one of the best in the NHL, but he's not close. I'm not advocating to trade him just for the sake of trading him though. If we can't get a big haul, I wouldn't do it. Every goal scorer does that though. You can't score a goal if you don't put the puck on net and unless you expect guys to carry a huge shooting percentage like Stamkos not every shot is going to score. Like I said, guys who score 30 goals in the NHL are not that common and Kane is one of them at a young age. Be satisfied with what he is and don't expect him to be a super star. You're making it too black-and-white, as usual. Kane is particularly bad for this. With his natural talent, if he would simply put a little effort into learning the game and beating guys with his mind rather than just his body, he COULD be a superstar. That's what's so frustrating. Brett Hull used to say he was a good goal-scorer until he took the time to really understand the game... and that's when he became a GREAT goal scorer. No one is denying that Kane is a useful player and certainly one of the most dangerous offensive threats on the Jets. It's just that he could be so much more. Enough with the "Jets fans should just be grateful for what they have" mentality. What a loser way of thinking. Come down from your ivory tower in Calgary and realize that Jets fans are just like any other fans, they want their players to perform to their maximum potential. And how old is Kane again? Let the kid (he still is practically a kid for cryin out loud) mature a bit and see what he wants to do with his career.. Faaaaaar too early to give up on him.. Which one of us that you quoted said it's time to give up on him?
  23. End of the road for him in the CFL?
  24. That picture of him at the beginning of the video MOAB posted is ridiculous. How hard do you have to work to look like that?
