  1. Here's the link for the press conference where he said that. Starts around 7:40. http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/football/bombers/walters-in-charge-for-now-would-the-last-person-with-interim-in-his-title-please-turn-off-the-lights-219526201.html?device=mobile
  2. This is basically how I feel too. He seemed, or maybe still seems, like a good hire, but some things are worrying me a little. The biggest concern is his statement that he'll be involved in football ops. Having a major contradiction in your purpose only a month or two into your tenure is cause for concern. The "appearance of conflict of interest" is strong here, but from what I've heard both Elite & Worman are good at what they do. If I've learned anything as a Bomber fan in my lifetime, it's that everything will work out for the best...
  3. Does Norwood really merit a mention as a worthy find? He absolutely found some good talent while he was here, but his inability to plug holes on the OL & find/trade for a quality qb will define his legacy in Winnipeg.
  4. That argument seems better suited to show the bipolar nature of posters on a fan forum.
  5. Please name one player who has improved under Burke's watch. Max Hall, Will Ford, Rory Kohlert (sorry, that's 3) That's all I can think of.
  6. Saw a tweet from Penton that he thinks Walters will be the next GM b/c no other viable candidates will be interested. He said they're all worried that Miller will meddle.
  7. I have a hard time following the logic of allowing Walters to hire a coach if he's not the GM in waiting. It would be beyond stupid to have anybody but the new GM do it. I'm ok with Walters if that's who they ultimately decide on, but I really hope they are being truthful about doing a full search before giving it him.
  8. This line should take the steam out of the "poor Goltz" thread this is turning in to. A shitty attitude can be put up with if you're good. Young Mr. Goltz hasn't done anything to earn that label yet. If he's not going to listen to me I wouldn't put him on the field either. I would have cut him rather than wasting a roster spot on him though. I agree that if Hall can't go I'd put in Brown. They can't honestly believe Boltus is any good, and they don't like Goltz, so why not? He's been in the league for a few years so it's not like he's a raw rookie being thrown out there.
  9. Edmonton wasn't exactly a powerhouse in Rays last few years there. but they were 11-7 in his last year there and look how much of a disorganized mess that team looked without him. With a Ricky Ray it makes it so much easier to build a team because you know exactly what kind of offence to install because you know what Ray does well and it makes receivers look good cause he's putting balls right where they can be caught. He's pretty f'ing good and will make a team better, no doubt about that. Edmonton did put up some losing seasons with him though. Adding Ray to a hot mess of a team will only cool that mess, not fix it completely. Toronto has a pretty good team, and coaching staff, around Ray, which is helping him to do things like what happened last night.
  10. Edmonton wasn't exactly a powerhouse in Rays last few years there.
  11. yes. he played there on his first ever start, with less than a week here in Winnipeg. he did look good there. i think Jones deserved to be protected. I proposed on another Bomber message board that we should protect Jones, allow January to go to Ottawa and use the savings in salary to make serious offers to QBs or OL upgrades. For the most part that idea was laughed at. To upgrade our OL we should let another team take our best O Lineman?
  12. He mentions January as a vet who's "getting up there" and probably wouldn't be taken by Ottawa. He's a starting LT who will only turn 31 next season, so I'm going to have to disagree with him on that one...
  13. That's not what happened. He disagreed with you, you responded with a smarmy, "really, do tell?" and then gave ridiculously low salary numbers to try to make his comment on rookie salaries look stupid. He also never said anything about a middle ground, I did. The middle ground would only be $45k to your $95k if JBR was suggesting they made nothing. You didn't note until several posts later where you heard those totals from. edit: So in summary, this is why some people didn't like your post.
  14. Serious question; who's involved in a war on this site? I'm not a pyschologist, but I think if you'd just chill the **** out you wouldn't end up in so many arguments.
  15. But he's on TV! TSN won't just hire any fool.... oh wait... I like him more than a lot of others guys they've used.
  16. Dr. Robert Oppenheimer
  17. And why do you have to always get personal? I wasn't mad, dude. I always get personal? Alright... Anyways, how about that middle ground?
  18. Kohlert's the player we sign of the 2 (Etienne & Kohlert). If I was going to gamble, I'd protect Kohlert then make sure he gets signed but leave Etienne exposed to Ottawa. If Etienne isn't selected & wants to come back here then he has to take a significant pay cut to do so based on his numbers the past 3 seasons. All first rounders get paid $85-95,000 a season. He then takes a 25-35% pay cut on a new contract. If he balks then sayonara, kid. Best of luck as he won't get any better offers even in his beloved home land. No they don't. None of them do. If they are lucky they can make that if they reach performance bonuses. Muamba isn't making close to that in base salary on his current deal. So, you're saying Henoc Muamba makes $45,000 a year? Really, do tell? When Chris Bauman signed with the Stamps after bouncing atound the CFL (inc Winnipeg) after he was selected as the very first pick in the draft back whenever, his salary for a backup depth receiver on the Stamps that they are paying him now is about $135,000 a year according to people in the know. And you're saying Etienne makes what, $35,000?? Forty?? Why would a first round pick sacrifice his body & his time to get paid that? He could get a job paying more money. Do you not see the possibility of there being middle ground between 35-45K & 85-95k? Why do you get so angry about everything?
  19. Why would we ever protect Pontbriand? 6 NI's Pencer, Swiston, Neufeld, Watson, H. Muamba, Greaves (possibly C. Muamba instead of Pencer-depends who's seen as a starter next year) 10 imports + qb: Hall, January, Denmark, Turner, Dunn, Wild, Parker, Sears, Johnson, Washington, Anderson
  20. He's already said he would bring in a qb coach if he's here next season.
  21. were you in the Hamilton dressing room? yes
  22. yeah well Burris coming into this mess would just pout and be a total jackwang in the dressing room, blaming everyone else for the team's failures. No thanks. Hamilton was a disaster last year and that didn't happen with him.
  23. As Rids, I presume? I never knew that was him before.
  24. Don't put any of that blame on the apathetic fans. If people on a forum like Morning Big Blue are apathetic towards this team, that falls completely on the Bombers. If, God forbid, Tim Burke is back as head coach next season, I know I'm not alone as a diehard fan and season ticket holder in saying I'm completely done with this team. I'll watch the CFL, because I love the game of Canadian football, but I won't be cheering on this insanity. That itself would be insane! I wouldn't go that far, but I do agree with your first sentence.
