Cheveldayoff willing to move first round pick
Atomic replied to blue_gold_84's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
I think he was making about the right amount of money this year. I don't think he's a terrible defenceman, he's a decent 3rd-pairing and fringe 2nd-pairing guy. 3M/year is as high as I would go but I don't think we would get him for that so.... pass. -
Who cares if it's easy? People's lives are at stake.

I think the Esks are going to finish last in the West. Unlike many I do believe the Riders will be slightly improved but you just can't make a crazy move like the Esks did and expect success. Firing a winning GM because he is not fan-friendly enough is exactly the kind of move that destroys teams. And the West is so tight, any little thing can send a team tumbling. BC, Winnipeg, and Calgary are all going to be very good. -
For me, I just think.... can you really hope for anything better from a 7th round prospect? If a guy can have a year like Gennaro and not earn a contract... what's the point of making a 7th round pick at all? Just trade it away for whatever you can get.

Honestly something has to be done about it. It's incredibly concerning that Trudeau and the federal government are just ignoring the issue. Now someone has died trying to walk across the border. It's not right. I have no problem with people seeking asylum for legitimate reasons but this is NOT the way it should be done. It's harmful to border communities, it's harmful to the people trying to cross, and it's harmful to our immigration system. Trudeau can't just keep ignoring it.

True but due to injuries over the course of the season... stuff happens and it's nice to have legitimate options. Not so long ago I believe we were starting Bucknor, T. Sherman, Morley, Greaves, Neufeld, Watson and Kohlert. Seriously that was the starting Canadian lineup for awhile in 2014. Oh yeah and 200 pound Mike Cornell getting reps at DT. How we won 7 games that year I'm not sure.

Sounds more like they didn't try

I'm disappointed because he looked like a pretty good prospect for a 7th rounder. Center, nice size, offensive ability. But nothing to cry about I suppose.

Matt Nichols is still the starter but Mike O'Shea has stated he is "on thin ice" due to having a child recently. MOS believe players should be totally focused on football. Clarence Denmark was busted in the off-season for steroids so he'll miss the first 4 games of the season. Against everyone's better judgment, the Bombers drafted only "players who could bench more than 25 reps at the combine". Walters stated that "CIS football is low quality so I don't bother watching game film." The Bombers traded next year's first round pick to the Alouettes for SJ Green but he retired recently. Terrence Edwards recently came out of retirement but he's dealing with a turf toe issue.

You think a guy who is winning games will be moved to backup? -
You might be upset now but we actually waited until the seventh round.

I like to throw it in the fridge for 30-60 minutes before serving. It should be cool but not cold. A common misconception is that it should be served at room temperature... warm red wine isn't good for anyone.

Guys, guys, guys.... we're going to start 5 American receivers and Sam Hurl at MLB

How can the argument be overly cynical when it has already happened, in regards to the sex of the child (aborting female babies disproportionately)? Is it that much of a stretch to think the same issue might crop up in regards to other characteristics? I don't disagree with any of this.
-
Like I just said, they are similar in that they could impact a person's decision to keep a baby or abort it. That's all. You are arguing against yourself unless you disagree with that simple statement, and I'm not sure whether you do because you have avoided it by claiming I'm saying something I'm not. LOL yes, all people fit nicely into little buckets like this. There are no people out there with progressive viewpoints who might behave differently if faced with a decision regarding their own child, nope, none at all. You need to step outside the echo chamber some time and realize that society isn't just "enlightened liberals" vs "stupid conservatives". There's a grey area and yeah, that's where most people reside.
-
It's similar in that it is something that greatly affects the life of the person and parents could potentially use it as a justification for an abortion, which is what the question is about. Is it okay to abort a baby based on predicted characteristics? Does it matter? If a gene is discovered that predicts autism and parents start aborting 90% of babies that show this gene is that okay? If a gene is discovered that predicts homosexuality and parents start aborting 90% of babies that show this gene is that okay? Sexual orientation and health conditions are obviously very different things but the similarity is in the fact that both could be used by parents to decide whether to keep or abort a baby.
-
Sorry I'm missing your opinion on this. You believe it's ok to abort a baby based on sex, and by extension, other perceived characteristics? Or it's not ok?

Not sure I follow. If the salary cap goes up and the minimum salary goes up along with it then I don't see how anyone is getting less. -
You completely missed his point obviously. We are approaching a point in genetic science where we will be able to look at the genetic sequence of a child to determine some of its characteristics and vulnerabilities to disease. It's the same process that is used by 23andMe. Now imagine that soon-to-be parents have the genes of their unborn baby analyzed and they see something concerning... oh this child will have X disease or this child will be mentally challenged. The existence of a 'gay gene' is very controversial but the issue is far from settled. Someday there may be genetic indicators of homosexuality/bisexuality or other sexual preferences. Now parents decide... Well we better abort it. Is that ok? These issues are coming as science gets more advanced, there is no question about it.

CFL salaries have to go up. We'd see less of these retirements. -
Is Coates out too? Let's get Spencer Watt in here already.

Seems like a little much. I'd just try to strongly persuade Toby to waive and then count on Vegas not taking him.
