Game 56 : Land of 10,000 Lakes @ Land of 100,000 Lakes
Atomic replied to FrostyWinnipeg's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Is Helle playing? -
Pretty clear from this thread that the only people who really don't like the OT rules are the same ones who don't actually watch NFL. Probably would also argue that CFL players are just as good as NFL players... the game's just "different". Here you go MO... everyone wins:

I love Saturday afternoon games! Hoping for no Thursday nighters.
-
Unfortunately I agree... but money talks, and we got the money!
-
When people argue "But the other team didn't get a chance!!!!!!!!", all I read is "I got too many participation ribbons growing up!"
-
One of the most ridiculous articles I've ever read. Who is this guy? He clearly has NO CLUE what's going on. I think he needs to get out of the house more often.

Around The League Off Season Discussion
Atomic replied to Bomber_fanaddict's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I like Cato. If we could get him at a nice low price I'd love to see him here. Let him compete. If he sucks or causes trouble in the room then let him go. Otherwise we've got an experienced arm on the bench. Even if he's #3... that way you still get to see what Davis has after 2 years holding a clipboard, and you have some measure of insurance in Cato. He's also 3 years younger than Davis. Bring him in! Although I do find it funny that @TBURGESS was tripping over himself to call Stafford and Carter idiots, but somehow Cato is excused.... -
LOL at the Virgil comment. I have first-hand experience with that one. And I couldn't agree more. If these guys want to get out of wrestling there are plenty of jobs in car sales or whatever else that don't require any education and pay just fine. I don't imagine anyone is forced to be a wrestler if they don't want to.
-
Jets should bring him in ASAP!!!!!!
-
60? I want to see the shirtless photo of him today!
-
The answer to what? Nobody here or elsewhere wants him on the Jets long term. Whether it's him or Hellebuyck here for the rest of this season is kind of irrelevant... the Jets aren't making the playoffs. They weren't good enough when Hellebuyck was starting and they aren't any better now. This season is over.

No one is arguing that starting with the ball is not an advantage. The argument is that the advantage is not as huge as people are trying to make it out to be ("a coin flip determined the winner"). And the numbers support that argument. It's about the same advantage as having home field, in terms of wins and losses.
-
No it was NOT. This is WRONG and people need to stop saying it. Since the NFL instituted modified overtime rules, there have been 73 overtime games, including postseason and Monday Night Football. Three have been ties. In the other 70, the team that receives the ball first has won 38 of those, or 54.2 percent. (stats accurate as of Dec 29, 2015) Only in NARNIA is a 54.2 percent chance an automatic win. So you need to go back to NARNIA with all the other dreamers who do not understand PROBABILITY!! THREAD OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whether the money comes from the government or through rate increases it's coming out of our pockets one way or another.

He was pretty good! But as a coach you want a guy who is good every night, not great one night and trash the next. If you score 4 goals, it doesn't really matter if the goalie got a shut out. This is part of the timely saves argument. Goalie A gives up 2 goals 2 nights in a row. The team wins both, 3-2 and 4-2. Goalie B gives up 0 goals one night and 4 the next. The team goes 1-1, winning 4-0 and losing 4-3. Same GAA, same SV%, better record because one guy is more consistent. Now, I'm not saying Pav is the goalie letting in 2 every night... we know he's not. But that's the general rationale.

OK go on? Was there supposed to be more to this post?

It usually plays a part but in this case, that is misguided. If it were true then we'd see the same thing in all major sports but MLB, NHL, and NBA can all go on into eternity during the playoffs so there's no reason why the NFL couldn't be the same. Football is not like other sports, that's why they can only play once a week.

Depends what the question really is here... the BiPole III project consists of many different smaller projects. Is a third line needed? Absolutely, yes. Bipole I and II are right next to each other so it's not unlikely that both could be brought down by one disaster... and that's basically all the power to Manitoba, gone, until they can fix whatever the issue is. Outside consultants hired to review the BP3 project commented that they've never seen a setup like this, where one event could potentially knock out power for 95% of the population. And depending on the event we could be talking weeks, months without power. Should it have been built on the west side? Unequivocally, no. This was a huge blunder forced on Manitoba Hydro by Gary Doer, Greg Selinger, and the NDP. With basically no logical or scientific reasons for doing so. Is the Keeyask generating station needed? Yes. What most people don't realize is that most stations in Manitoba were built around the same time period... and they're getting old. These things need maintenance... in some cases more than others. Some may need to be decommissioned. In short, you can't necessarily assume that the power we're generating now will always be available. Could Keeyask have been designed to be much smaller and cheaper? Sure. It didn't have to be built on such a grand scale but it would be disastrous financially to stop now. You can't just leave a half finished station up there doing nothing. Furthermore, you need to stay ahead of power demands. Demand is fairly close to supply at the moment (relatively). You can't just build a new station/line when power is required. This requires lead times in terms of years. Don't forget this is all based on waterflow as well. If Manitoba faces a multi-year drought, power generation goes down with it. Of course now you should understand that since power generation needs to stay ahead of consumption, there will always be a surplus of power generated. Naturally, this is sold to the U.S. and Ontario. What else would they do with it? The price depends on several factors. If the U.S. agrees to buy a certain amount of power for a certain amount of time, they get a discount because that's guaranteed money coming into Hydro. If it is "just-in-time" sales, the price isn't far from what would be paid by ratepayers here (in some cases the US pays more). And of course, Manitoba still has some of the lowest rates in North America, with the highest reliability, and the highest percentage of clean, renewable energy consumption in Canada. TL;DR? BiPole 3 was needed but the design and implementation were flawed from the start.

It's 2017 and the Riders just put _________ on their neg list ...

It's like a damn cult over there -
With the amount of decent forwards who will potentially be available I just don't see anyone knocking down the door for Stafford. Maybe a fourth round pick... but I'd be surprised. I think fifth-round is just about the best we can hope for.

There are many reasons not to have a protracted OT. It's football. These guys are already being pushed to their absolute limit. You can play 18 innings in baseball... play 6 quarters in football and guys are dying on the field.
-
Pretty average numbers in college. Tough for a guy like that to get a real opportunity.
-
Very true... not just the rules but the inconsistent application of them. The Super Bowl was extraordinarily well-officiated. I can't remember even one controversial call.
-
Atlanta scored on a pick-six earlier in the game so, yes they did have a chance to score. They also could have given themselves a chance by holding the Patriots to no points or a field goal. Did the Patriots have an advantage due to the coin flip? Yes... but unless you want to do an XFL style jump ball, then there is going to be one side with an advantage.
