The special teams sucked before he even got here.. Ultimately it's the players who are responsible. Like I said, I'm willing to give him a shot.

Willing to give him a shot. Not sure all the criticism he got as assistant coach for the Jets was necessarily warranted. We'll see.

Sounds like Montreal is getting Kenny Stafford and Tyrell Sutton back this week. Pretty big additions, IMO.

Bye Cronk, love u

Then we have much bigger issues, don't we

I'm not that concerned about the backup QB in-game. More concerned about if Nichols goes out long term and we need to start someone else for an extended period. In that case, yes Willy will miss out on a maximum of 4 weeks of practice but will still be able to get a full week of reps in before the next game when he is needed, and obviously all the subsequent games. In the meantime, sure Davis gets more reps in practice. That's a bad thing? Maybe nice to get a better idea what we have in him before shipping out our only other option, no? As for having no SMS advantage because we took Willy off the 6-game, well duh, Nichols will be on the 6-game so his salary is off the books.
-
You'd be wrong though. If there was a proven option sitting at home, or at number 3 here, maybe you'd have an argument. At this point, you either swallow the unfortunately high salary or find a hangnail and put him on the 6-game. Dom Davis hasn't played enough to make the leap and cut Willy and there are no experienced options out there unless you want to call Max Hall.

I can't believe this debate is still ongoing. No team in their right mind is cutting their only experienced backup QB in the middle of the season, regardless of salary. That's just pure stupidity. Won't happen.

CFLPA applies for Workers Compensation coverage
Atomic replied to Rod Black's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
If it improves player safety then I don't see any issue with that either. We're not going to see Justin Trudeau changing the rules of the game any time soon. -
I don't see how it hurts Willy at all. He's obviously not going to remain under a 400k+ contract if he doesn't regain his starting job this season. However he will easily get a new contract somewhere (maybe here?) as a backup.

I have no problem with players who are unable to work due to injury after football receiving benefits. -
The premise of the article is only true if the team's salary total was going to be exactly at the salary cap. Which is ridiculous, especially at this point in the season. We don't need to cut Willy. Not going to happen.

No Doug Brown please... that's all I ask

I agree he is overhyped. He didn't get a chance to play long enough for other teams to figure him out. He looked good for 2 games last year but lots of backup QBs look good for a couple games.

Bowman still drops the ball in Edmonton with some regularity. According to you, that means he's useless. I guess that's why they keep him around right? The point here is that it's not black-and-white. McDuffie dropping one ball doesn't mean he's useless. Every receiver drops the ball sometimes. How about we give him a chance to catch the ball a few times and see how he does, then make a judgment?
-
Bowman still drops his fair share and I wouldn't call him useless

Is Adarius Bowman useless?

That's true.... but that was an extreme case. MacLean was beloved by Canadians and Strombo was a pretty jarring change. I didn't mind him but I can't blame people for reacting the way they did. It was hard to buy Strombo as a "hockey guy." I also think he took an unnecessary amount of blame for the poor ratings situation.

Very, very true. The worst thing about Jay & Dan is that they spawned this new generation of anchors who desperately try to be funny but are not, at all.

I'm on the other side of the fence, for sure. I expect entertainment. Does anyone actually get "info" from the radio anymore? I can get more information from 10 minutes on the internet than a 3 hour radio show will ever provide. I'm there for the banter, the discussion, and the entertainment value. The Cory Woron vs Jay/Dan comparison is a little different. Woron is great as a pure highlights guy. But he's never going to carry a show like the Jay and Dan podcast, which is excellent. Two different mediums really. That said, I loved Jay and Dan on Sportscentre, too. i'm sure Edmonds appeals to the 50+ crowd just fine, but that's not the target demographic.

I believe Jay pissed off the "You'lllllll find us!!" guy from Best Sleep Centre, and around the same time he also engaged with a troll on twitter. He told the troll to "eat a d*ck" if I recall correctly. The troll was deserving of that and far worse for the things he was saying. But the troll escalated it to the TSN bosses and whether he deserved it or not, it was determined that Jay's behaviour was unacceptable and they let him go.

Edmonds was "great"? Westwood is "horrible"? Is your favourite meal a slice of white bread with a glass of water on the side? It would appear that you have a taste for the bland and boring.
-
They signed him in January so not really a whole year yet.... he has played in five games, plus pre-season.
-
He's definitely never been shy talking about being Jewish, seems like he embraces it pretty fully, I just didn't realize it was to that degree.

Beyak is far better than Edmonds on PBP but i would still take Edmonds over Brian Munz. Munz is the worst... hopefully he doesn't end up on the morning show. Edmonds on the morning show however was not good either. I also can't see Rewucki taking over, he is not a fit for that role. Jim Toth would actually be a pretty good fit, I think... that would be the natural choice. Jay Richardson was fine but as others have said.... tough to see him coming back. Other choices could be Darrin Bauming or maybe the Freep's Jeff Hamilton if he is interested, as he has lots of print and radio experience. I don't get the Westwood hate. I didn't like him as a player for the Bombers but I think he's a great morning-show type guy. Definitely the best they have right now. He is entertaining. Leibl leaving to become a rabbi seems like a joke? Is that for real? Best of luck to him if it is true. Very interesting career transition.
