The Wild Card race aka hockey's Final Four
Atomic replied to FrostyWinnipeg's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Honestly I would keep playing Pav all the way regardless. One game of rest... I don't see the value. Change as little as possible because the team is rolling and you don't want to knock them off course. -
I remember we had a "Blue Out" at a Bomber game once. Sold out the stadium on the final week of the regular season in a must-win game against the Ticats. That was 2009 and they jumped in our god damn boat.

Also keep in mind when you make a mortgage payment of $1000, that is not a $1000 loss.

Winnik has two goals and six assists in 19 games since the trade. Pretty similar to what we've got from Stempniak, at least by the numbers.

White Cop Shoots Black Man, Charged With Murder
Atomic replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in General Discussion
That doesn't mean it's racism though... It's much more likely that it's classism much more than racism. Just so happens that certain demographics are over represented in the poorest class and poverty and questionable behaviours that lead to run ins with police go hand in hand. I don't believe there is as much racism as people think. It's not like it's the middle class black people getting shot by police right? It's all intertwined, you can't separate one from the other. Do you believe that the cop would have acted the same in the exact same circumstances if the victim was white, all other things equal? I'm not so sure. Maybe, though. -
You could even throw guys like Harrison and Thorburn into the mix. Not superstars but stand-up guys from all accounts.

Wix is good but don't you have to use them for hosting as well, if you want to use their services? You can use them or someone else. They push using them (it looks easier) but it can be set up to be hosted by a third party. Got it. I know someone that used them and she has no knowledge or experience whatsoever and the site actually looks pretty professional. Wix could be a good option.

Creative accounting aside, $3.9 million in a big pot and out of that pot comes $4.5 million loan payment. That doesnt leave a big profit in the pot like they are portraying. But regardless, doesnt it show the debt servicing moving forward is not sustainable? Wade will use some of the reserve fund. They will make a killing on the Grey Cup that will give them "extra" money to dip into and tout year after year after year of making their loan obligation. But it's not real profit on a year to year basis. It doesn't have to be. If they profit by $5 million (made-up number) in a Grey Cup year, they can easily afford a $500,000 loss for the next 10 years. Also keep in mind that this was a non-playoff year. As much as it seems like that will always be the case, it won't be. The Bombers will be good at some point over the life of the stadium and that will bring more profit. But yeah, it's always going to be close. They won't be rolling in excess cash anytime soon.

It's not a lie. They did post a $3.9 million operating profit. They actually have to divide it up that way, it is not creative accounting or anything like that. Read the notes after the numbers and the repayment of the loan isn't quite as simple as it is portrayed in the media.

I like Wordpress, especially if you just want to display info and not conduct business or sell product directly through your site. It is dead-easy to set up and there are literally millions of templates to choose from.

It's not a department though, it's the whole organization. And if your organization was accountable to the public like a publicly traded company or community-owned like the Bombers, you better believe they would be spinning it as good news. yeah but when my company releases bad news (it is publicly traded), the media doesnt usually swallow the BS hook, line and sinker That's the difference between business reporters and sports reporters who know nothing about how to read financial statements
-
Accounting is a buzz word? Are you kidding me? The entire foundation of business is built on accounting.

White Cop Shoots Black Man, Charged With Murder

Everyone lies. Did you know priests lie as well? Why generalize? Seems like you're getting pretty riled up for someone who claims "Nobody cares." If you don't care, then get out of here. Some people care about more than what happens right outside their own front door. -

White Cop Shoots Black Man, Charged With Murder

I doubt you could convict the cop of any kind of racial hate crime or anything like that. But it is an example of systemic racism, without a doubt. And that's what people are so pissed off about... that this keeps happening. This is not an isolated incident. The core problem is that the cop was so quick to pull his gun and start firing. Not even a second thought. That shows you the culture around the police department, right there. It's not one bad apple.... the whole damn system is ******. -

How could it not be racially motivated? You're never going to hear the guy say he hates black people or that he is a member of the KKK, if that's what you're waiting for. The racial divide is ingrained in their society. That cop knew that he could get away with killing a black guy and that's why he shot him when there was no real reason to do so. If he hadn't been caught on camera, he gets off scot-free based on the "he took my taser" story. You say "Can we avoid riots?" Well... sometimes riots are necessary to effect real change. The ugly side of that is people rioting and looting just for the sake of it. But you don't change a corrupt and broken system with a petition and a peaceful protest outside the state legislature. -
Pav is starting to lose, back to Hutch ...

Buffalo is the worst team in the league. Their current starter has a .923 SV%. Neuvirth had a .918 SV% with the Sabres before he was traded. They both have better SV%'s than the Ducks starter. Weren't you just lecturing about small sample sizes a few posts ago? -

Common sense says a good goalie will have confidence. A shitty goalie on a good team could easily played scared trying not to screw it up for the team. Example: Patrick Lalime & the Senators. I'm not an advanced stats guy, nor am I discounting quality of shots. I just think that SV% is the best stat available to determine the quality of play for a goalie. It is the best stat, yes, but still flawed. -
What's with the flip flop? You've always been a huge Burris supporter in the past.

I didn't post it for the stats, I posted it to show that shot quality is not as irrelevant as some would have you believe. What you don't realize is that because shot quality pokes a big hole in Corsi/Fenwick reliability, the advanced stats supporters have been fighting against recognizing shot quality for years and trying to make it seem illegitimate. But the numbers say different. And there are intangible factors at play as well. A goalie playing behind a better team has more confidence, which allows him to play better. Again, common sense. -

Yeah they have been better, Halak played for Montreal and the Blues, while Hiller spent his career with the Ducks. You don't think that makes a difference?Talking save percentage. Not goals against average. So? Quality of shots against makes a difference... a goalie playing for Edmonton will naturally have a lower save percentage than one playing for Anaheim. Just common sense. That's not correct. Worse teams typically give up more shots on goal but the quality of shots is an incorrect assumption.lol based on what? Some online article from 2 years ago by a 19 year old stats student? You need to consider your sources. Shot quality makes a huge difference and there are several people doing research into it right now. It is ignored to some degree by the advanced stats crowd because they can't quantify it easily, but make no mistake, the difference is there.GAA is widely accepted as a team stat and save percentage is considered an individual goalie stat. And if you want to consider the eye test, well I can tell you over the past few years Pavelec typically lets in one soft goal per game and his technique and positioning is considered terrible. Eye test is irrelevant because you have no idea what you're talking about. "Widely accepted" doesn't fly with me. "Widely accepted" just means the majority believe what someone told them and repeat it like parrots. Read the downloadable PDF found here: http://hockeyanalytics.com/2012/02/defense-independent-goaltender-ratings/ You might learn something. -
