Jones would be one of the smallest OL in the NFL. I wish the guy good luck as he'll need it. But I can't blame the guy for trying. The vast majority of NFL centers are between 6'2 and 6'4 and 300-325 pounds. At 6'2 318 Brett Jones would fit right in.

I guess that depends what you mean by winning consistently. He won the Grey Cup in 2011 and the Lions are 33-21 since then. Regardless of Benevides being fired I'd still say that is winning pretty consistently.

He never got a legitimate chance here. I still believe he will be a CFL player.

How could you possibly put a price tag on the value Byfuglien brings to the Jets? A forward that can drop back and play over 27 minutes as the number one defenceman. Scheifele and Lowry are both really coming into their own. The scoring will come for Lowry but for now he is playing a great 3rd line center role. Scheifele is starting to look dangerous again after a bit of a scoring slump earlier this season. Pardy and Postma had some trouble as the 3rd pairing. Postma got just over 11 minutes. But they get a pass for tonight. Hutchinson just makes the big time saves. I don't know if it's the real deal or if he is just on a lucky/hot streak. He just always seems to be able to get his body in front of everything, even though it's not pretty sometimes. Overall I'm really happy about that win. The team needed this one to maintain their confidence... they're not out of the woods yet.

Jets Trade 6th Rounder for D - Jay Harrison
Atomic replied to Jpan85's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Harrison was the #7 dman on one of the worst teams in the league. Wheres this love coming from? He's the gum plugging up a hole in a dam. #7? He was eating up top 4 minutes on a line with John-Michael Liles. -
This exactly what they invented the Atomic bomb for

Might be the only one (haven't read through the whole thread yet) but this is the reason I don't want Bene here. Be too easy for the Bombers to make him HC and he sucked as a HC. In what way did he suck? Not that I want him as head coach, but he did pretty good win/loss wise. BC 2012 13 5 0 .722 1st in West Division 0 1 Lost in West Final BC 2013 11 7 0 .611 3rd in West Division 0 1 Lost in West Semi-Final BC 2014 9 9 0 .500 4th in West Division 0 1 Lost in East Semi-Final Yep, took a grey cup winning team and got progressively worst the next few seasons Hard to say that Wally did him any favours though. He let their Canadian talent languish to the point that they are near the bottom of the league in that regard, particularly on the offensive line. He also clung to old Americans for a little too long... basically telling Benevides that if those guys were good enough to win a Grey Cup in 2011, then they should be good enough for Benevides for the next 3 years. Very inactive in terms of roster management. I'm not trying to make excuses for Benevides because he bears part of the responsibility as well. But Wally shouldn't get a free pass just because he is Wally Buono.

A horse walks into a bar and the bartender asks "Why the long face?" The horse neither speaks nor understands English, because it is a horse. It is spooked by a loud noise and knocks over several tables, injuring two loyal bar patrons. Eventually it is able to find the door in its confusion and gallops out into the street. The bartender calls Animal Control and they track down the horse a short time later and are forced to put it down, due to the injuries it caused. Somewhere, off in the distance, a dog howls wistfully at the moon.

I'm not a big Landsberg fan but I can appreciate what he does and he is usually pretty good at maintaining the "upper hand" in interviews that get a little confrontational. But I thought Punk absolutely took him to school in that one. I love the way Punk handled it. As far as UFC goes, I don't really watch it but I would watch Punk's first fight for sure. I bet he can hold his own.

Really interesting read, thanks. It's a really strong point he makes, about movie theatres not wanting to be liable for this type of thing. How can you blame them? It's not up to movie theatres to stand up to terrorists.

Canadian Greg? He has been the head coach at Western since 2007.

Will Tedford try to wedge in some American systems or try to coach like it is still 1990 in the CFL? Or will he be abreast of the latest CFL trends, demonstrating dynamism and boldness in his approach? The answer lies in the future. Only time will tell.

Stand Pat & Tweak or ... Make Real Changes

I'm an alcoholic so a two week vacation would probably kill me -
When was that said? O'Shea said the new DC will not pick any player personal going forward. I meant when was it said by the Bombers that Hall wouldn't fit the system. O'Shea said it on the coaches show. Not those exact words. He said there was no place for him in our defence. I thought O'Shea said that at a time when our d-line was playing really well and it didn't have anything to do with the system. I'm just telling you what he said. He said there was no place for him in the defence. You can interpret it however you want.

Jets Trade 6th Rounder for D - Jay Harrison

I'm going to wait until I've actually seen Harrison play for us before I say we should keep him over Pardy (if it comes down to that). IMO Pardy has been everything you could ask for out of a 6/7 defenceman over the last couple seasons. -

It's going to be interesting. They won't want to send Chiarot back down if he keeps playing well. We could end up with Enstrom, Stuart, Harrison, Pardy, Clitsome and Chiarot all as left handed D. But that's a problem for another time... We won't be completely healthy for a while yet, if at all this season. -
I still think Brohm will be back.

Now it just gets sad. Stuart gone till February.

Not at all.Between our 7 healthy defencemen we have 1483 NHL games played. It's not like we are rolling a bunch of rookies back there. -

Chiarot & Brouillette are here and both Kichton & Ellerby are hurt. It makes sense to search for dmen from other teams rather than bring up guys who are bottom pairing dmen in the minors. Will O'Neill is also injured. Between Winnipeg and St Johns we have seven injured defencemen right now. -
Honestly I tend to agree with this. I would be happy with any of the 3. There are some real good options out there, it's not a bad time to be looking for a defensive coordinator.

Separating players from scheme makes it hard to draw conclusions. The Riders were pretty bad defending the pass but pretty good against the run. We have the makings of a very good secondary. So hypothetically does Hall benefit from our good secondary or ruin our secondary with bad schemes? Right now that's unknowable. The Riders have some pretty good talent in the secondary. Rod Williams had an NFL shot before joining the Riders, we all know how good Brackenridge is, and Macho Harris and Terrell Maze are no slouches either. In fact, Hall was working with an all-American secondary and still had a tough time against the pass. Just something to think about.

Has anyone heard about Brohms thumb? Yeah, I know this one. Brohm's thumb walks into a bar and...

Jets Trade 6th Rounder for D - Jay Harrison
Atomic replied to Jpan85's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
I really like this trade. Giving up very little for an immediate need, and it is a veteran guy that Maurice is familiar with. Exactly what the team needs right now. -
I'd be more interested in Odell Willis, Ricky Foley, or Justin Hickman if we are going to bring in a free agent. Whether any of those 3 actually make it to free agency is a different story. I do still like Kashawn Fraser and Marvin Booker as well.
