Terrible comparison. Buono is a hall of fame coach and gm, Walters is acting GM of a failing organization. Miller would be irresponsible to give Walters the same freedom as Buono gets. -

Ok. Miller hasn't made any coaching or player decisions (that we know of) so still not sure where he has done an about-face. -

Don't blame Miller. The Board knew exactly what they were getting when they hired him. He is a hands-on guy, he's not just going to sit in the background. If you don't like it, blame the board for hiring him, don't blame Miller for doing exactly what he said he'd do. -

I get that in business you work with whom you know and trust. And although I know Wade part-owns Elite, who knows -- maybe it will be Fish who gets paid by the BB, not Elite Performance. That would be reasonable in my opinion, optics notwithstanding. To me what is more troubling is the about-face on meddling in football ops. Two months ago he said he wasn't going to. Now he is. If he wanted to be GM why didn't he lobby for that job? He has always maintained that he would be involved in football decisions... there has been no about-face. -

I thought our state of the art stadium with its state of the art training facilities and therapy rooms was supposed to change all that? It probably would have if the organization hadn't turned into the biggest gong show the CFL has seen in a decade -

So where would these guys get the news about Winnipeg being so bad? Most of the guys that come up readily admit they know nothing about the CFL or Canada until they get here. Is some agent poisoning the well? When they come to Canada, they pretty much are at the end of their professional ropes as their NFL dreams are either dead or on hold, and so it would be a case of Beggars can't be choosers, I would think. Players talk to each other. Most guys coming up to the CFL know someone up here already -

But the fans and media say he's terrible so he must be Gimme a break. Mack was a terrible GM. His approach to free agency, trading with other teams, and handling the QB position we're all below average. He also made poor coaching hirings and firings and last time I checked, had a losing record as commander. Stats may be for losers but according to the stats, Mack is a loser. If you say so it must be true. Because you're the expert. What was our record under Joe Mack? One Grey Cup appearance in 3 seasons... .333 Grey Cup appearance percentage. Remarkable really, unmatched by any GM not named Popp -

gary lawless @garylawless24m one #bombers board member is resigning this year and three more next year. Someone is pushing for change at the top and that's a good thing gary lawless @garylawless8m The #bombers won't say which 3 BOD are resigning but 3 of longest serving and well over term limits Gene Dunn, David Asper, Bill Watchorn gary lawless @garylawless6m Looks preemptive to me #bombers BOD knows the ride is over unless transparent reform made -

Lawless definitely thinks they should go with Walters. Miller, I'm not so sure. -
The hiring of the GM is beside the point. Asper wasn't even on the board of directors when Mack was hired. He was kicked off in 2005 for making an ass of himself. He re-joined them in 2011 and started meddling in football ops right away as the team went into a downward spiral into where it's at today. And now he is the vice-chair. Make no mistake, nothing happens at the Winnipeg Football Club until it goes through David Asper.
-
What is Asper actually doing that is so negative to the team? Wasn't he one of the BOD members who didn't want Joe Mack in the first place? He didnt get his way then. If he had pushed his agenda maybe we'd be in a better position. BoD should have no say in the hiring of anyone other than the President/CEO. That's a problem right there. Shouldn't be remotely involved in football operations. It's the meddling that has to end. Whether the result of the meddling is good or bad is irrelevant. He should simply have no say. Hire a President, and get out of the way. He won't do that, and he has been involved with this team longer than anyone else. Time for him to go.
-
I think it's a relevant topic. Asper has been involved with the team for way too long. If they want to show real change in the organization, he's going to have to go. He just can't let go of the reins and it's not healthy for the team. He had a huge role in getting the team into a new stadium and should be commended for it, but it is time for him to take a step back.
