  1. He is becoming a high school coach... http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports ... 70251.html
  2. From the Sun: "Meanwhile, the team also announced the release of import linebacker Daniel Sheffield, who had yet to report to training camp." Yes I know that much, wondering why though. He was at rookie camp.
  3. I wonder what happened with Sheffield. Nice to see Renaud getting a shot, looking forward to seeing him in camp.
  4. We all wanted to get away from road griller. Seriously.
  5. Stephan had an injury history? I'm pretty sure his injury was a new one... Can't really blame anyone for that. Also I agree with TBURGESS... I have no problem using later picks on talented players who have histories of injuries. Pencer is the only one that was really questionable, IMO. No problem with using 4th rounders on guys like DiCroce and Woodson.
  6. I'd love to see Chick here. He's a hell of a defensive end... Hall and Chick on the ends? That would be awesome. That said, I have a hard time seeing him land here. Possibly Mack just driving up the price for the Cats or Riders.
  7. Agreed on Miles. I think he looks great. Thanks for the report.
  8. Well you guys can engage in as many fantasies as you want, but Denmark will still be starting for us on day 1.
  9. don't be fooled by speed. speed is one thing and hand is one thing. Floyd fooled us by his speed but can consistently catch the ball. From the reports, looks like the Kennedy and Massey are the fastest in rookie camp. Of the two, Kennedy has the surest hand. I'd agree with that... but I still think Denmark has them both beat in both categories. Denmark looked the fastest at mini-camp, no question, though Massey got a lot of love because he was a new guy.
  10. I'm not too worried about it. As our 5th NI receiver, maybe we can stash him on the IR and let him heal up until he's really needed.
  11. Jameze Massey is definitely quick but with his incredibly small size I have a hard time seeing him being effective in the receiving game. It's almost like every catch he makes has to be an outstanding catch because the ball is way above his head. Sure its nice to see great catches, but how consistent can a guy be when every catch has to be a circus catch? Still, I like his potential in the return game.
  12. 72 is Brett Carter from the Rifles. Good report Mike, appreciate it.
  13. Signed and resigned. Meanwhile, Gavin Walls was three times the player over on the strong side. Walls, while I thought he was a great player while here.. I wonder how he would stack up to the DEs we have seen in the last few seasons.. Hall, Mainor, Hunt, etc.. (I don't count O'dell as he wasn't one of our finds) I do miss Canada though, seriously, was there a better last name donned on a jersey in the CFL? I'd still take Walls over Mainor but Hunt and Hall are studs for sure.
  14. I won't be shocked if any of the starters lose their job but I would be surprised. I think best case scenario is the starters keep their jobs, not because they've been handed to them but because they're still the best. Experience is valuable.
  15. This is insanity! How can I turn down a deal like that??? I'm going to be spending $50 on 50/50 tickets every game now
  16. what that supposed to mean? is he on the way out? No... airplane mode on his phone will just prevent him from getting butt-trucked by data charges
  17. It was pretty full but I found a spot in the visitors' lot (free) with no issues.
  18. I'll join
  19. I'd agree with that. He didn't do much yesterday but today he made some nice catches in traffic and held on to the ball. Michael DiCroce also had a pretty good session. He missed a couple but also had some nice catches. He caught a nice 20-30 yarder from Chase Clement. You can definitely see the potential there. Carl Fitzgerald still looks pretty raw but he's getting a lot of work since he's the only running back or fullback at rookie camp. He has to work on being more aggressive catching the ball in traffic, because that's what he's going to be doing if he gets the chance to catch the ball in game... still, I like the potential there too. He needs to realize he's bigger and stronger than some of the guys out there, even though they are older and more experienced... needs to use that to his advantage. As far as the import receivers go, Doug Pierce caught a lot of balls today and looked pretty good doing it. I didn't notice Anderson much today. My guys are Wallace Miles and Trevor Kennedy... both look good. Miles is the most polished looking receiver, catches almost everything, kinda reminds me of Denmark in 2011 training camp. Not a whole lot more to say. I thought Goltz stepped up a bit today and looked pretty good. Again the linemen were just doing drills but I liked Zach Anderson's intensity and heard him getting some praise. Started to rain near the end, I'm guessing they end up in the indoor soccer complex this afternoon. Unfortunately I can't attend, so this is it for today.
  20. MONTREAL ALOUETTES 2013 SEASON PREVIEW Starters on Offence QB: Anthony Calvillo OL: Jeff Perrett, Scott Flory, Luc Brodeur-Jourdain, Andrew Woodruff, Josh Bourke. Lots of Canadian depth here too. Ridiculous collection of non-import OL. RB: Battle between Jerome Messam, Chris Jennings, Brandon Whitaker and a couple new faces, including 11 year NFL vet and Super Bowl champion Dominic Rhodes. I could see them keeping an import while starting Messam, similar to what BC and Calgary do with their running back situations. FB: Patrick Lavoie (Currently out with back injury) WR: Jamel Richardson, Brandon London and SJ Green are locks. The other 2 are open for competition between Arland Bruce, Bo Bowling, and a handful of rookies. Canadian Eric Deslauriers will be on the roster but whether they have a non-import receiver full-time is still up in the air. Starters on Defence The defence wasn't great last year so we might see some significant changes. That makes it hard to predict who the starters will be, but we can make some educated guesses. DE: John Bowman. The second DE spot will be open to competition. DT: Alan-Michael Cash, and then Moton Hopkins and Scooter Berry will compete with some rookies for the other DT spot. LB: Shea Emry, Chip Cox. As for WILL, they picked up Ejiro Kuale and there has been some talk that they are looking at moving Kyries Hebert into a linebacker spot rather than Safety, but that hasn't been confirmed. They also have a couple good prospects with playing experience like Bear Woods and Kenny Ingram. DB: Billy Parker, Jerald Brown, Seth Williams (Out with ankle injury), possibly Kyries Hebert, Byron Parker, Geoff Tisdale. Key Special Teams Kyries Hebert and Daryl Townsend will likely lead the way on the cover teams, and Sean Whyte is entrenched as the punter and kicker. The returner spot will probably still be open for competition as it was never really seized and held onto by any of the candidates such as Trent Guy, who is no longer with the team. New Additions: QB Quinton Porter, RB Jerome Messam, CB Byron Parker, DB Geoff Tisdale, LB Ejiro Kuale, SB Arland Bruce, RB Dominic Rhodes. Subtractions: KR Trent Guy, RB Brandon Whitaker, WR Brian Bratton, DB Dwight Anderson. Draft: #3 LB Mike Edem (signed), #5 RB Steven Lumbala (signed), #14 DT Hosam Shahin (NCAA), #23 DE Jesse Joseph (NCAA), #30 LB Nicolas Boulay (signed), #32 DL Michael Klassen (signed), #41 OL Jake Piotrowski, #47 OL Simon Legare (signed), #57 WR Damone Blackman (signed). Players on the bubble: Anyone on the defence is fair game outside of John Bowman, Shea Emry, and Jerald Brown, in my opinion. Chip Cox is probably safe but he is 30 years old and you never know with a new coaching staff. Hebert is also not getting any younger. Scott Flory is getting up there and there are a lot of young Canadian OL behind him. Last season summary: 11-7, 1st in East, Lost East Final to Toronto. Last season saw a continuation of Montreal's potent offence led by Anthony Calvillo and a trio of deadly receivers. There were some issues on special teams and their defence never seemed to live up to the standards expected of the players they had. As we all know by now, last season was Trestman's last as the head coach. 2013 outlook and prediction: It's hard to imagine the Alouettes really falling off after so many years at the top. But with Trestman moving on and Calvillo being 41 years old... I mean come on how much longer can he keep this up? Unfortunately for the rest of the league, I think it would take a big disaster to knock Montreal off the top. Their receivers and OL are just way too good and Calvillo is far too polished. If Messam regains his 2011 form, watch out. Of course, if Quinton Porter ends up starting for any significant period of time, all bets are off... all things considered I'm going to say 9-9 and second in the East. EDIT: Changed to reflect release of Victor Anderson and signing of Brandon Whitaker
  21. That is just unbelievable.
  22. If Noel got fired, I'd probably only be happy if Vigneault ended up back here. However it would be nice to see Tortorella put the Winnipeg media in their place. That said, I like Noel and hope he stays.
  23. Or he was released a while ago and it was just announced now. They've done that before. Maybe but his signing was just announced on May 9th so that would be odd.
  24. Yeah Kennedy definitely made an impact today.
