  1. Then how does Batey factor in at all? Brock Turner receiving a ridiculously lenient sentence stands alone on its own merit. There are many differences between the two cases, and race is just one of them. In fact, race played more heavily into the Batey case because some would argue it was a hate crime to gang rape a white girl and then piss on her face while telling her "This is for 400 years of slavery." Again, I'm just not sure what point you were attempting to make.
  2. Yeah. SkipTheDishes and ride sharing companies are generally not worth it for the drivers, if you really dig down and do the math. So regulate it better. It serves the consumer. If it doesn't serve the employee then the government has to step in and make sure the employers are playing fair. But that doesn't mean you block the whole industry. Because cab companies do not serve the consumer appropriately anymore and it's not right that they have a monopoly.
  3. I do think the guys should get royalties from the WWE Network. It would be difficult to determine how much, but so be it... these are the guys who put their bodies on the line. Find a way.
  4. Are you not suggesting that he is a victim of institutional racism? That's what I got from your post. Otherwise why bring it up?
  5. I think what TUP did is okay. I can understand the point of view against Uber as a company but in my opinion this is about ride-sharing, not Uber or Lyft specifically. It's about opening up the market to serve the population better. Taxis in this city are dreadful. What other business could survive and thrive with such poor service? Duffy's has a 1.6 star rating on Google and Unicity has a 1.9 star rating. And they are both huge and neither ever address customer concerns. That's not right. And what a load of crap this is: Who wrote this anti-tech propaganda? It makes it sound like such disruptions are a bad thing. When something like ride-sharing comes along, you write new regulations. You don't stubbornly hold on to old ones that worked in 1980. Whoever wrote this needs to read "Who Moved my Cheese?"
  6. It is incredibly disingenuous to suggest the only difference between the two cases is race. It is reprehensible that Brock Turner got such a light sentence. But the cases were not the same. Not by a long shot. But I do agree with you that it would be naive to suggest that race plays no part. It is playing a part right now, allowing you to view Brock Turner as a villain while you paint Corey Batey as a victim.
  7. It's not relevant. When Basslicker comes in and talks about the concerns of false accusations, he is accused of not actually caring about that, but instead he's trying to make excuses for Republicans. It's the exact same thing here. You claim it's related, but really it's just a reason to be able to bring race into the discussion. On the left, your argument gets stronger the more -ist and -phobic words you can toss at the other side. Sexist wasn't getting the results you wanted, so you added racist. That's all this is.
  8. No free press subscription. Coles notes?
  9. Focused? Like bringing up Jim Crow in a discussion about sexual harassment? Great focus there. More like "Here's a thread discussing an issue that has political connections! Let me turn on my firehose of unrelated Liberal talking points and start calling everyone racists and sexists to shut down all discussion."
  10. Hargreaves is the slowest receiver to play for the Bombers in the last 20 years.
  11. I guess the discussion is over. Pretty bizarre and selective reasoning for what got pruned. You're allowed to be an ******* if you lean left, but not if you lean right. Pretty typical, to be honest. If you can't beat it, delete it.
  12. I think it's natural for people to worry about themselves first. For men, the scary part of all this is the idea of someone destroying your life based on a false accusation. It is relatively unlikely to happen, but it could. And if women are standing up for women's rights, and men are standing up for women's rights, who is protecting men's rights? Is it selfish to think this way? Yeah, it is... totally. But it's also natural. I don't think it does any good to belittle and demonize men who are concerned about it. It's a valid concern based on the court system's treatment of men in domestic disputes, divorce, and child custody, where the woman is presumed to be in the right, and the man in the wrong. The pendulum swings heavily in favour of women in these cases and men are afraid that it's going the same way in cases of sexual harassment, assault, and rape. I wouldn't make the same argument, but I empathize with the men who do, rather than try to make them into monsters for being worried.
  13. I don't get it either.
  14. Considering it. http://www.ckom.com/syn/648/180456/180456 I disagree with this... pretty strongly. GMs don't really know. They can make an educated guess but even now, with the NFL draft falling before the CFL draft, you have players who make it in the NFL unexpectedly. There would be more of those cases, without question. Now, is that enough to outweigh the benefits of moving the season up? I'm not sure. I don't think so. I'd like to see them expand the season by one week so we can avoid some of the schedule ugliness from this year, and also move it up by 2 weeks. They could still hold the draft in early May after the NFL draft, it would just give GMs less time to sign players and get them in camp.
  15. Yeah concussion.
  16. I don't put the loss on Comrie by any means but yeah he's not ready for the big league. He made some really nice saves though.
  17. Comrie bends like Gumby!
  18. 3rd line chipping in tonight!
  19. Probably out late last night with Florida beach babes
  20. Taman didn't really become the full GM until 2004 I believe. That year the receivers were Stegall-Peterson-Gordon-Stokes-Stoddard. And some others. So that's the baseline he is working with. 2004: Stegall-Peterson-Gordon-Stokes-Stoddard 2005: Stegall-Peterson-Brazzell-Stokes-Stoddard 2006: Stegall-Brazzell-Andrae Thurman-Quentin McCord-Stoddard. But Arjei Franklin was also drafted this year and Armstrong came back late. 2007: Stegall-Armstrong-Edwards-Stoddard/Franklin/O'Neill Wilson. 2008: Stegall-Armstrong-Edwards-Bryant-Franklin. They definitely got a lot better between 2004 and 2008... 2005 in particular was painful, but by 2006 it was decent, and then all-star level from 2007-08. 2009: Edwards-Bowman-Bryant/Titus Ryan/Otis Amey/Dudley Guice Jr-Brock Ralph. Lol.
  21. No, no, that's Barack Obama.
  22. Not only that but Hall wasn't officially announced as the replacement until late January.
  23. Yep that's what Sting has too. And still has because surgery would end his career and he wants to leave the door open for another match or two. At least that's what I've read. That's too bad about Sheamus. I hope he is able to get better but the history of that particular injury in wrestling is not good.
  24. I'm guessing Michael Landsberg
  25. I don't see how anyone who is going after the Republicans/Hollywood creeps could possibly dislike this decision. Franken has proven himself to be a creep and stepping down is the right thing to do. Whether he has stood up for women's rights or anything else is irrelevant. Being good to 100,000 women doesn't give someone the right to harass or assault one woman.
