He had a pretty good playoff game against the Bisons (3 picks) but I haven't seen a lot of draft talk about him. JC Abbott from 3DN had him in the honorable mentions section of of an early top 25 article he did but haven't seen much else yet. If the reports about the aborted trade with Edmonton from last season are correct, we had a deal in place with him for an extension so I'd have to think they can't be too far off in numbers unless Lawler is using FA to drive up his asking price.

You're assuming he reached out to the team. The team could have just as easily called him to see what his plans are.

Which is ironic because earlier in their careers (pre-WWF), it was the reverse. Lanny was pushed as the star while Randy was more of an enforcer-type guy. Vince did Lanny no favors by sticking him with the "Leaping Lanny" gimmick. The Genius was an upgrade of that character and Lanny played it well, but it was never going to be anything more than a lower/mid-card role.

I wouldn't pencil in Lawler as a lock to return just yet. They've been saying the same thing for a few weeks now and he's no closer to signing a new deal so it looks like he wants to see what other offers are out there.

I have definitely watched it way too many times as well. He had Smith over his right shoulder but he looked left, as if he expected another rusher (who never came). By the time he turned back to Smith, it was too late. Didn't get a hand on Smith until he was already laying out to block the kick. Half a second quicker and it might be an entirely different story. 😞

I like Sayles but I'm still mad at him for pretty much letting Robbie Smith have a free run at Leggs, allowing him to block the kick at the end of GC. If he's not back, I won't be too upset.
