  1. Oilers decline to match the offer for Broberg and Holloway. Thought they would have matched at least one of them after trading Ceci yesterday. That trade gave them the cap space (assuming they put Kane on LTIR) to match both. Maybe they want that money to extend Leon?
  2. Did O'Mahony even play a real game for us? His two stints here were memorable but for the wrong reasons. In 2006, he didn't show up to camp and his wife had to file a missing persons report before he eventually turned up. He was released so he could focus on his issues. We re-signed him in 2008 but he stubbed his toe while taking a leak the night before the first game of the season. I don't remember him ever actually getting in a game except pre-season (where he was admittedly overweight and out of shape).
  3. How about Duncan O'Mahony? Two legendary stints with the Blue and Gold.
  4. It's also a good thing for grassroots football. Gives a couple young guys a taste of pro football and a goal to aspire to.
  5. Not 2024 related but the Bombers released the seating map/pricing for the 2025 GC. Almost identical pricing to what they charged in 2015, with a couple more price points (7 sections vs 5 sections).
  6. Not sure if every Husky has this but their Slurpee setup has an option to add soft serve vanilla ice cream and make a Screamer. Pretty tasty way to change things up.
  7. He was with us after Montreal (who acquired him in a trade with Hamilton) but he didn't play a single game in the CFL. Hopefully it's a name we'll never have to hear again... after reading some of the details of the case - good riddance.
  8. I agree, our game day experience is much improved but that's not what the OP was talking about. The bullet point was "Bring in some special events to get the potential fan attention and attract younger fans." We're talking about 2 different things here because most of what you just referenced would not qualify as a special event (the exception maybe being the half-time entertainment but I'm not sure you can compare bringing Fred Penner in to bringing in someone like 50 Cent).
  9. It is to an extent. BC bringing big name musical acts is far and away bigger and more notable than anything the Bombers have ever done as a special event. The Bombers have made the game day experience better by having things like having the tailgate area but I wouldn't call those special events, those are an every game feature. MOS was not a successful coach when we hired him (or for his first few seasons) but yes he was allowed to grow. Chris Jones was also given room to grow and run things as he wanted but Edmonton saw first hand how that worked out. The right hire is vital for them but I don't think Edmonton's future success will just be on the coach, just as it wasn't here. The GM will also play a part in that. I agree with Wade's passion & our community work though.
  10. I think it's still too soon to see if the BC model is effective. They have done better under Doman and I like a lot of the things he has done but they also have had a fairly good team recently. Can they sustain that with a losing team? The new Edmonton owner doesn't have the luxury of buying a winning team and neither did the Bombers when Wade took over. Wade has been at this for over a decade now so his blue print is proven to work, regardless of the on-field product.
  11. Put a quality product on the field and the name isn't a problem. The fans haven't had much to cheer about since the cancelled season in 2020 - only 3 home wins (including a record setting 22 game home losing streak) and they've finished last or tied for last each year. Doesn't matter if it's the Elks or Eskimoes when the team is a tire fire. That's the issue the new owner should be concerned about.
  12. https://3downnation.com/2024/08/13/edmonton-elks-to-be-sold-to-local-business-man-larry-thompson-report/
  13. Yeah, wasn't clear enough, as soon as they miss the original 6 games, the salary for those games do not count. If they are extended on the six game list and then pulled early, the additional games (7-11) would count unless they are one of the 2 exceptions. Lawler has missed 8 games & was extended on the 6 game so they can use one exemption on him and not be on the hook for those 2 games.
  14. The financials part makes sense. If a team has multiple guys extended on the six game (and they have missed 7 or more games), 2 of those guys can come off the list without a cap hit. Any additional players pulled early, would have their salary count against the cap. They haven't used one of those 2 exemptions yet (afaik) so leaving Lawler on the 6 game while moving Haba to the one game makes financial sense since they can pull Lawler off and won't get the cap hit. Haba is much cheaper so his hit is manageable.
  15. They moved Haba to the single game injury list at the end of July instead of re-upping him on the 6 game list so hopefully that's a sign he'll be back sooner rather than later.
  16. Winnipeg's Skylar Park takes bronze in Taekwondo.
  17. We just ordered Starlink for the lake and you can now get the hardware for $99. Just got delivered today so I'm looking forward to getting it set-up this weekend.
  18. I saw him whiff on blocks but I don't recall him ever getting trucked.
  19. Yeah I've had a ton of time to watch these games and have watched quite a bit (definitely some sports I don't usually watch) and that was awesome today.
  20. First Olympic medal in women's pole vault for Canada. https://www.cbc.ca/sports/olympics/summer/athletics/womens-pole-vault-final-paris-2024-aug-7-1.7287439
  21. Yeah, the Lions have mentioned that he's expected to be a longer term project so they seem to be willing to wait on him. Even if they cut bait after a couple seasons, other teams will scoop him up to take a look.
  22. Canada sweeps the hammer throw. Camryn Rogers just took the women's gold medal to go along with her world championship.
  23. Mid-season for the team but only a couple weeks for him. He was on their suspended list until recently as he was pursuing a job opportunity so he was already looking at walking away.
  24. I think so. Couldn't see the number but one of our guys got walked to the locker room after that play. I assumed it was Ayers.
