  1. Hopefully Pallister gets more than the 10 days or so Trudeau got before people started complaining about his new policies.
  2. Delusional. After he said that, I wouldn't have been surprised if he had decided to stay on as leader. Glad he did the right thing... Just a couple years too late!

Definitely a weird situation... the UFC is adding to it by oddly announcing hours later that they have pulled him from UFC 200. How do you pull someone that already announced they're retired?
  4. People who are appointed to jobs rather than earn them through competition usually get classified as being out of scope and don't fall under collective agreements. Those are usually good paying political appointments so those people can (and will) be axed. It happened quickly after the Filmon government fell and I expect that will be the same this time around as well.
  5. No worries, I don't know the exact number myself but I know it's not 100%. In some cases, it's actually worse! Some contracts are 5 years instead of the usual 4 (I'm guessing they are banking on an ndp come back in 4 years).

Conor's coach & credible mma media people are saying it's legit. UFC can't be very happy right now!
  7. Not 100% true. The MGEU is made up of different locals so there are multiple contracts that got negotiated. Some contracts did include a 4 year no layoff clause but not all of them.

Conor has mentioned retiring a few times, just never this directly. He was ringside for a fight in Ireland last week, where one of the fighters died the next day so it's very possible that played a big factor in his decision. He's definitely earned enough money to live comfortably if he was/is smart with his money so seeing something like that happen may have convinced him that he should get out while he can. Opinions are divided on whether or not this is a troll job or if he's serious though.

So Conor has decided to break the internets today...
  10. I worked in the palliative program about 10 years ago and even back then it had a very good reputation (it was considered one of the best in Canada) so it's nice to see that it's still providing that level of care and comfort. A close friend of mine is dealing with a parent in the early stages of Parkinson's so I've been trying to help steer them towards what help is out there for them. It can be a tough system to navigate, even for people who know it, so I'm sure a lot of people miss out on some much needed resources.
  11. I always felt that was part of Palpatine's plan - he was constantly undermining the Jedi Council when he talked to Anakin, now he was showing him that they were not the righteous guardians of the galaxy they claimed to be. Considering Palpatine was able to fight Yoda to a draw (and Yoda was recognized as being more powerful than Mace), but gets "beat" at just the right time for Anakin to come to the rescue, my money is on a fixed fight!
  12. I don't think this is an issue. According to Yoda, there must be two, no more & no less so they are constantly grooming the next apprentice (like how Palpatine had Dooku but he started working on Anakin years earlier). The apprentice will either overthrow the master & take on an apprentice or fail and the master needs a new one so both will have someone waiting in the wings. They can have someone on stand by without them being Sith (like Dooku had with Ventress).
  13. The tax value is much lower than the market value so it's worth a good chunk of change if/when he does sell. Having recently been to that area, I would say it's a good investment and would have done the same if i was in a position to so I don't begrudge him for that. The biggest issue that raises questions is the lying about it when there's really no need to and you are hammering your main opponent for lying about issues (PST, tiger dam contracts, etc). He has perfectly valid reasons for being away & owning foreign property so the choice to lie about it is puzzling.
  14. The lying thing could be the only hiccup in an otherwise good front-runner campaign but I think it's way too late in the game for it to make any real difference. There seems to be more coming out by the day about Costa Rica, and if it had come out earlier, it may have played a factor. The last update I saw was that it's not a just simple vacation retreat, he owns at least other 3 separate properties totaling over 13 acres of land and, to tie into the Panama issue, he has them under holding companies (which is pretty typical).
  15. Does anyone believe this is in doubt? We are going to be a very blue province come Wednesday.
  16. It's still over a year away but if Nolan doesn't go 1st, I'll be shocked. He's already 6'3 and 195lbs & he was the 1st Wheat King in almost 40 years to crack 100 points as a 17 year old (Brian Propp was the last in 1979). He might not be the flashiest guy on the ice but he's a solid player. Craig Button compares him to Toews, in that way.
  17. Not sure about that, being entirely correct. There are threads out there that go back years talking about what kind of accent it is and most of the talk is on some kind of NY accent (there are different NY accents - Brooklyn, Staten Island, Long Island, ect) or maybe a Jersey one. A lot of people think that because it's not a legit accent, it kind of has elements of different ones (Boston included).
  18. According to Wicek, it's GC money only & the regular season numbers will be announced Wednesday.
  19. He must have stolen that from someone because Turner is not that clever.
  20. You and your peers are at the tail end of that demographic though, ask someone 15 years younger and see if they remember him as a VJ or tuned into his talk show. His appeal is to a very small segment of that younger crowd, and the ratings would seem to support that. The panel as a whole (not just George) is so bad, even the set annoys me!
  21. That younger crowd that you're talking about wouldn't remember those days though. The young adult tv demographic (18-34) is either too young for that or about to move into the next age bracket.
  22. Yes. She's the most well known to get popped but there have been world champions & Olympic gold medalists as well.
  23. Yep, apparently there's no concrete testing available to tell how long it stays in your system so there are athletes claiming that they took meldonium when it was legal but are still getting popped. They have to prove to WADA that they stopped when the ban came into effect but there's really no way to do that.
  24. It's not just hockey in Russia that's being hit hard. There have been 114 Russian athletes, in various sports, test positive for Meldonium in the first 12 weeks since WADA made it a banned substance (and that number does not include the hockey team). Their entire track & field program has already been banned from international competition (not good in an Olympic year!) so I have a feeling there will be much more to come.
  25. Jarvenpaa wore 13 for the 20 games he played in 86-87 & then switched to 23 the next year. Not sure why he changed though since nobody had 23 when he came here so he could have had it then if he wanted.
