Am I sure some find carbs more satiating? unless I'm going to call posters liars, than yes I do. And, as I said in my first post, diet talk can be as dangerous as religion or politics. It appears I've ruffled feathers with my talk of moderation, so I'm done.

Again, the argument on the insulin response goes on for pages. I just don't think the effect is as great as some think. See, I just don't think I could eat like that for the rest of my life, so as a "diet" it's of no use to me. I enjoy pizza. I just don't have it as often as I used to or as much as I used to, but it's still part of my overall food choice. Only thing I don't have any more is pop. I just know how much I can have and enjoy what I want. For me, any sort of restriction is too difficult and I'd rather just count calories.

That is not universally true. Some folks find carbs more satiating. The argument about this goes on for pages on MFP. Again, if it works for you, great. But there is nothing really special about a low carb diet. It you find it more satiating, than great, but realize that others don't.
-
Not convinced there is any health benefits to eating this way. And it just seems overly restrictive to me. But to each their own.
-
Not so much anti-low-carb as I read too many posts (on MFP) that tout low-carb as something special, and it isn't. Many claim to be able to eat as much as they want, low carb and still lose weight. It doesn't work that way. If it works as a way of eating (and it certainly does for many) than that is great. But I can't not eat carbs but can still lose weight.

Here's a decent article on low carb https://www.bemorenutrition.com/2017/01/20/low-fat-vs-low-carb-which-is-better-for-fat-loss-research-review/

I disagree. For me, I keep at my calorie goal, eating white bread on occasion, and lose weight as expected.

Didn't I say this? " Now as to what you eat, that becomes a personal choice. If Atkins, Low Carb works for you, than great. It does not have any magical properties over any way of eating and does not do more for long-term weight loss than anything else, but if it works and you can eat that way, then go for it. " There are many ways to lose weight effectively. Calorie counting work well for me because it becomes a math problem, but I don't discount that others need to use a different method. The underlying reason people lose weight is because they eat less calories than they burn, but they don't need to count calories to accomplish that. My point is that you figure out what works well for yourself, through trial and error, and make sure you can stick to it long-term. "Dieting" and then going back to how you were eating is a sure path to yo-yoing your weight. I know some low carb people think they have found something special by going into Ketosis, but beyond a few extra pounds of water loss, they are not doing anything magical and will still lose weight based on calories. Add carbs back in and those water pounds will come back.

This topic can become as heated as any politics or religion topic, but what the hell. I'm a lazy assed accountant. I peaked at somewhere around 330 lbs last year. I still don't know my true highest weight as the scale I had stopped at 300. I'm also 52. Last August something clicked in my brain and I bought myself a fitness watch (Garmin). Started counting steps etc. and ended up following the link to MyFitnessPal. Read a whole **** load of stuff there and I think I have most of it figured out. Scale said 240 this morning, so I'm down ~90 lbs since August. First and foremost, there is a lot of **** information out there about losing weight. Way more than there should be. I blame Oprah, Dr. Oz, Gary Taubes and any other POS huskster trying to make a buck off of weight loss. You lose weight by eating less calories than you burn. Period. Anyone who tells you different is full of ****. There is no magic pill or anything else. How you eat less than you burn is either by eating less overall, burning more overall or some combination. So if you up your exercise and don't up your food intake, you can lose weight. If you eat less and don't exercise you can lose weight. I find it easiest to eat somewhat less and exercise more. Now as to what you eat, that becomes a personal choice. If Atkins, Low Carb works for you, than great. It does not have any magical properties over any way of eating and does not do more for long-term weight loss than anything else, but if it works and you can eat that way, then go for it. My food choices are relatively unchanged, just less of it. I still eat out, had a burger for dinner last night, I drink and all that, but I do it all within the calorie limit I've set for myself. Pretty much I'm eating today the same way I expect I will be eating years from now. Now, if anyone is trying to lose weight, I do recommend MyFitnessPal. It won't work for everyone but it is free and worth a shot. It's worked well for me. And if you happen onto the MFP forums, you might see my name and dog hanging out there. I think I have more posts there in 9 months than I do in a few years here.

I liked the Thor movies. Yeah 2 could have been better, but I still re-watch it. But this one looks really good so far.

Around The League Off Season Discussion
tacklewasher replied to Bomber_fanaddict's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Am so looking forward to this season after the crap-fest of the Jets season. And I will be so looking forward to the Jets season after what I'm sure will be a crap-fest season for the Bombers. Some days I think I'm not right in the head with my sports teams. -
So, I have my tickets for GOTG2. Going on the Friday night, so not opening night but close enough. Really looking forward to it as I loved the first one.

I think CGI to the extent they did for Tarkin, would be in bad taste, but I do think using CGI to give her a "good" death early in 9 would be appropriate. Give proper closure to the character without milking it. They had good plot reasons for doing what they did with Tarkin. I didn't find it to be in bad taste.

We're making the playoffs, didn't ya know?

Game 76 : Canucks @ 7 Games Left
tacklewasher replied to FrostyWinnipeg's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
So, crap vs crap tonight. Think I'll watch Oprah reruns instead. -
Where? I'm in there weekly and have never seen it. Are they hiding it in the back? ETA: Ahhh. Found it on google. More at the nearby hotel than Home Depot. No wonder I've not seen it.

^^This. I want to be excited for this movie, but based on the **** DC has peddled lately, I just can't.
-
And I still blame iHeart for it being cancelled.
-
Both. Here's the list https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Babylon_5_films LOTR and Lost Tales were after. LOTR was a 2 hour pilot that was terrible. Lost Tales was 2 stories, but not very good. Both of these took place after the main B5 storyline. The others fit into the storyline with A call to Arms being the segway to Crusade.
-
No. The plan was always 5, but partway through 4 they got kinda jerked around a little and were not sure if Yr 5 would happen, so they tried to wrap the story up. Then when yr 5 got greenlighted, Strasinsky (SP?) had to rush the script, which is why the atart of yr 5 is kinda off. Plus they couldn't get the contract with Claudia Christian sorted in time (both side probably still pointing fingers over that) so Ivanavov wasn't back. Crusade looked like a decent spin off until iHeart killed it (and Firefly). LOTR sucked donkey balls in the pilot. And tales of B5 was terrible. I have everything B5 on DVD except LOTR and the Tales thing. Also have all the books.
-
When do tickets for that go on sale? I've never wanted to watch a movie opening night, but I think I'm going to make an exception for this one.
-
It wasn't cancelled. It was always going to be a 5 year run. I'll blame iHeart for both Crusade (the B5 spinoff) and Firefly being cancelled.
-
See, I spent more time on it with Visicalc than Basic. Yeah, I became and accountant.

What would you like (Rule Chamges 2017)?

Review's time limited to 60 or 90 seconds. If there is not enough evidence to overturn the call on the field, move on. -
But did any of you have one of those? Cuz I did. Even had disk drives and the expansion module. It was a hand me down from my brother when he bought his Heathkit PC clone.
