Quick quiz: What area of the Blue Bombers currently holds this team back, the most? - in terms of talent, the effect on our ratio, and the overall state of Canadian team depth. There is a definite answer......and perhaps a guide for us in this upcoming projected deep draft.....

With the way this draft is setting up.....Blue may have an opportunity to load up on OL...

Lawless - Attention O'Shea: Fire Etcheverry
do or die replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Neither our DC....or for that matter our OC...... has made much of a case for retention. Enough of this mythical power struggle nonsense, and just get on with improving this club with some new coaches... -
Good news is that a lot of this is fixable, with about 4 players. A couple of competent OL A MLB (Wild is an allstar if you keep him at OLB A pass rushing DE At the very least..... there is no excuse for Walters to not be able to upgrade imports on OL, and find a better import than Romby at R

We didn't get consistent pressure on the passer, got pushed around by everybody's run game, and were 7th in total yds against. These are not hallmarks of a "good defense", anyway you slice it. So I have a number of reasons not to like Etch as a DC. At least we are agreed on that.....

We didn't get consistent pressure on the QB or stop the run. These are not hallmarks of a "good defense"

Pass: HC Seconday Kick returns Running back (presently) Kicker Quarterback stable Canuck Depth (still work in progress) Fail: Schemes on D Playcalling on O In game adjustments on both ends OL Dumb penalties Too many Turnovers Kick coverage Romby Bryant
-
Just a few things went wrong, this go-round: We struggled running with Grigsby.....opponents ran the ball up our butt, all year We struggled to sack the QB.............opponents ran up record number totals on us We had too many turnovers..............didn't get enough takeaways We missed far more many tackles....than opponents Plenty of blame to go around on both sides of the ball.....to say nothing about schemes/playcalling
-
We gave up 214 yds rushing, last night on a field not meant for passing....even with Cornish going out early. We only won this one, because the Stamps confused the football, with a Ebola container......

Willy has had a bad throwing hand since game 4 against Edmonton (2nd helmet hit on hand) - before that he was arching long sideline and corner route passes perfectly - after that..... the "touch" on those seemed to completely disappear...... Combine that with him taking a few hundred hits, behind one of the worst pass blocking OL's EVER, the anemic run game, and the lack of adjustments from Marcel.......while finishing his first year, riding the learning curve as a starter.....and you have a formula for some bigtime struggles, for sure. But this guy has guts, is smart, and coach able. We will see a big uptick next year. So some folks might want to restrain themselves, from tossing him into a can, or under the bus..... btw..... none of this is a knock on Marve, who has demonstrated a good deal of potential as a change of pace guy, and a possible starting QB. Just would like to see a bigger sample size than a Troy Copp, before anointing him. This caution is simply based on the 100 or so QB's we have run in here....and out, shortly after...
-
Say this about Wild....you put this guy as OLB in a proper, stable D scheme......and you have one of the better ones in the league....
-
Frankly, you build consistent winners with sound schemes and players who can properly execute them - not with shell games, juggling acts, voodoo, hocus-pocus, and constant gimmickry Which is why, moving forward - I want Etch out of here, so we can actually recruit guys who will fit in.
-
Our sacks to sacks given up is almost 2-1...to the bad. Hard to win anything this way.... We ran defensive schemes, that rolled the dice on leaving areas of the field, almost vacated and put some guys in impossible positions to cover gaps........all this with the rational - that we would get extreme pressure on opposing passers. The last 9 games (once opponents figured things out).....we simply had the worst of both worlds.....complete and massive fail. We need a more balanced approach on D, next year,......,and a different DC. For that matter, considering our innate inability to make adjustments on O.........a different OC, as well....

Very interesting article about the oline and schemes

arrow is pointing directly at Marcel........ -
We needed that attitude....

I would like to see less angst about Willy in there.....and more blocking. If I am coaching a game like this.....peoples jobs are on the line.
-
3500 yards behind our garbage pass blocking is nothing to sneeze at.....

Good job neglecting to mention his 64 rushing yards... But regardless, you can't draw any conclusions from 10 pass attempts, especially when three of those came in the last minute, while in a 10 point deficit. The offence managed to score two touchdowns and should have added a field goal during the 23 minutes that Marve was at the helm. Plus, he actually managed to throw the ball away once or twice, which Willy is seemingly unable to do. And please don't try to say that his offensive line was any better than Willy's this past week-end, because it wasn't. It's also worth mentioning that he's looked good all year, ever since he first partook in Bombers mini-camp. Not trying to neglect anything.....I have no bloody agenda here Willy is still a first year starter....not like he couldn't use the reps. Marve has potential, and will get a much harder look (and a battle with Brohm) next year. That said, if Drew struggles again, would run Marve in there, promptly...

Bombers will start new WR Jerrell Jackson vs Stamps
do or die replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
If Romby is around, next year......fingers could - and should be pointed... Enough already.... -
Had a laugh.....seeing who the top percenters were....some cases not too surprising.... I am exactly at 50%.....so is this a prop...or a fail?
-
Imagine....if Marve had done more than 5 -10 for 64 yds, in a half..... Some folks have completely lost perspective, here...

Rookie Head of Football operations, rookie GM, rookie head coach.......far from a finished product.... Next year, the deal for everyone....is using the learning curve from this year.....and assembling and handling a better roster, this coming season.
-
Think that to take the next step..... 1. MOS is going to have to be somewhat more assertive, in terms of what he wants. (sort of team, style and schemes of play) This year looked like the classic rookie coach deferring too much to the veteran coordinators.....who at times, frankly appeared to not have a clue ..... 2. This clinging to (playing time for) useless articles, vets or not (eg. Romby, Kuale) through misplaced loyalty, or whatever.....has to stop. Bottom line: We need to make some coaching changes, anyways. Marcel is the definition of "mediocre" and once again, the league has figured out Etch. We lost 7 games by 7 points or less, mostly because his funky schemes, couldn't prevent other teams from jamming up our asses, in crunch-time. We played it safe with coaching hires, this past off season (recycling the ole boy club) and need to be more proactive, this off season......
