Too much of the funds stolen by Putin and the various layers of mobsters, perhaps.... The fact that Russians still don't have control of the airspace, with their huge numerical advantage in aircraft - may tie in with what you are saying.....

Looked at a lot of video, on the weekend. At this point, the Russians seem to be just blasting away at random, with missiles and artillery (as I predicted) at civilians. Their infantry is seemingly accomplishing nothing - not advancing, or at least clearing a path for their mechanized vehicle convoys. Shortages of supplies and morale? Also, the many images of destroyed Russian armour is one thing, but the number of vehicles, that have been simply abandoned is entirely another......either running out of fuel, or the occupants made a business decision to just bail...

I fear the worst.... At some point, the Russian military (when stymied) will fall back into to their ole default position........go strictly into straight full-on fire power mode - indiscriminate artillery and aerial bombardment and simply destroy everything, and to hell with any civilians. In fact, the goal is to exact a high civilian death toll in order to break the morale of the people. Following the well worn playbook....when they take control, the Russian may have themselves a military parade to symbolize the supposed final defeat of the "Neo-Nazi element", with a final phase of the operation to destroy pockets of "bandits" and "terrorists" - in other words, pretty well whoever they like. Grozny (Chechnya) all over again.

Given the history of things..... Putin declaring that he was going into Ukraine to "de-Natzify" it, also removing its Jewish President..... was incredibly ridiculous, even by Russia propaganda standards. BTW, In the most recent Ukrainian parliamentary elections in 2019, a coalition of ultra-nationalist right-wing parties failed to win even a single seat in the Rada, the country's 450-member legislature. Timely correction by The Noeller, there.....

Ukraine has set up a website and telegram channel called 200rf.com - in reference to Cargo 200 - so that Russian families can track down and identify their sons. Cargo 200 is the military identifier for transportation of dead bodies from the battlefield. It became well known in Russia during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in the 1980s, when thousands of Soviet troops returned home in zinc coffins.

Looking at this invasion from a nuts and bolts perspective...... Successful military action, these days.... requires good intelligence and a co-ordinated approach with air, mechanized, and infantry assets, good lines of communication, and a strong logistical tail (food, ammo, fuel, etc) The Russians have a huge advantage over Ukraine in terms of numbers of forces and equipment, but their offensive has shown a striking lack of cohesion. Massive convoys have run out of fuel and Russian tanks and trucks have broken down along Ukrainian highways, creating traffic jams of sitting ducks. The infantry has not been fully utilized to protect these columns, these convoys firing off missiles and rockets seem to take up the bulk of their activity. More and more stories are coming out about the infantry, with a lot of these 18-19 year old conscripts, who are facing veteran Ukrainian units (border fighting), without motivation, direction and supports (shades of Afghanistan), with predictable effects on their morale. There are even (unconfirmed) reports of some units handing over their weapons to the Ukrainians, and being allowed to just walk away Russian air power has been mysteriously inert, so far, Ukrainian air defences have not been suppressed, yet (huge surprise) Their vaunted electronic warfare asserts, have not been in evidence, either - Ukrainian Internet is still up, and communication links in-country and beyond seem to be still intact. Russians are losing the propaganda war, bigly.....those videos of confused and despondent Russian prisoners are a absolute ten strike in that regard. Overall, Putin's attempts to discredit Zelensky and NATO unity, have backfired in a spectacular manner. One gets the feeling that Putin ordered this invasion, somewhat off the cuff, blindsiding some of his generals, and certainly a lot of his troops. He was expecting a quick victory, while other countries talked about what they might do - the quick closing of ranks with NATO and the rapid response with the sanctions, etc...has come as another nasty surprise. This offensive is costing Russia around 10-15 Billion per day, to go along with the tanking of the stock markets and rouble Sure, the Russians have the military muscle to smash through, and take Kiev, and perhaps put a sock puppet in there and call him President. But to what end? Insurgent warfare with 40M Ukrainians? A uber larger version of Afghanistan?

Not all is rosy on the Russian side of things... The Rouble has dropped 32 percent in 2 days, against the dollar and the Euro. To try and stop a this run on the rouble, The Bank of Russia - is hiking interest rates from 9.5 per cent to 20 per cent this morning. The Russian finance ministry also ordered exporting companies to sell 80 per cent of their foreign currency revenues on the market to try to support the rouble - the value of which continued to collapse on the Moscow Stock Exchange, today. The Russian economy has plummeted an estimated 30 per cent overnight as the West's sanctions over the Ukraine war are starting to squeeze the economy. So there is that......
