Chungh has to be priority. Goossen I'd imagine isn't going anywhere. After that I wouldn't overpay
-
Tackles locked up for next year. Now we get to choose from our glut of Canadian guards. Who do we have under contract?
-
I have high hopes for Petermann but I think Simonise is already ready to make that next step. He's made some big plays. Super exciting to have both guys though
-
Simonise most likely. Isn't Petermann more of a slot receiver?
-
They also have Spencer, Ellingson and Sinopoli. A marked improvement over our top 3.
-
Should be a million x easier to make an upgrade at one of those positions...

Is Dressler a good player? Sure, but he's also playing the most important slot position. And regardless of whether he was injured this year he didn't even get close to reaching the 1000 yard mark (being durable is a good thing). Wolitarsky actually had more yards than him this year playing a ton of his time as the last read. We had 1 receiver in the top 20 this year. So it's either Nichols really is that bad or our American receivers still need to be upgraded.

Interesting to me is that there aren't many posts calling for a regime change. Our Grey Cup drought just ticked up another year and I would have imagined there would be. I'd like to use this thread to discuss what people think on the matter. By all accounts this regime inherited a bad team from top to bottom. From there we had a couple of lean years as the team was overturned/built up. And now we have a team that looks to be a "winning" team but just hasn't had much success in playoffs. You could argue that we were improved this year by almost beating Calgary in their barn. So the question...is the progress good enough? Some call the CFL a re-loading league, in that you can go from 0-18 to a Grey Cup the next year. Others would contest that it does take a while to build a consistent winner and that seems to be the course that we've taken. I'll leave my opinion out of it for now and hear what you have to say. What do you think of our GM/Scouting? What do yo think of our coaching staff?

It was supposed to be Bowman. 😥

Plus I think he is a positive for this team...
-
The scary thing is without him our record (IIRC) has been putrid
-
Which is so ridiculous because we were running a tempo offense with a lot of success last year and we mostly abandoned that this year. With faster cadence came faster movement and faster reads. Even in that Calgary game there were a couple times where it looked like we upped the tempo and completed some passes and then we just stopped again...

If anything Nichols needs to learn to read the eyes of the defense and give receivers a chance to make a play against a DB that might be in position but is turned the wrong way. The other complaint with Nichols is that once he starts running there is a very slim chance he's going to make a play. That said....Ricky Ray wouldn't have ever been called any better in that regard.
-
Pretty much what I posted in another thread. As much as it frustrates me to see passing yards of 150-200 every game I agree with White Out that Nichols is our best bet. I'm not even sure that the quarterback is the biggest problem. You see a guy like Masoli that puts up big passing stats but when he's going against a good defense he makes terrible decisions.
-
He's always been a really good dimeback but is not consistent enough to be a starting corner.

It's pretty disheartening because I think a lot of fans and the team itself thought this might be the year. I guess the good thing is that we are now in a situation where we really think we can win it all. We'll need a couple changes next year to really put us over the top. 1. If we can get Mike Reilly that would be amazing but I don't think it's going to happen. Nichols is a good QB but he is no Mitchell or Reilly. Probably 3rd best QB in the league but it's by a fair margin. 2. Better receivers. We did good to improve our Canadian talent but we still don't have those few Americans that can get open consistently. See: The recruiting of Calgary, Hamilton and Edmonton. 3. Return game/special teams. What happened here? We used to be able to threaten to score fairly often. Seems like there's 3 guys on our returner as soon as he touches the ball. 4. One guy I'm going to single out is Kevin Fogg. Think we need better play out of that position.

That was gruesome

I would have counted them out if it wasn't for what they did to BC last week. Masoli is so hot right now

Movin' on to take on the Calgary Stampeders!!!!

I think we're playing safer on ST in all facets because we are a better team on offense and defense. Honestly doubt we'll see any tricks now -

Good thing our all star calibre center and guard are healthy. -

Pat yourself on the back lol. No we needed to be better on both offense and defense. Do you remember our receivers last year? I think we were hanging our hats on L'Damian Washington. We've seen upgrades in Thompkins, Demski and Wolitarsky. If anything we got better on O and D and a little worse on ST (which had given us big plays the last couple years) -
The D-Line has been much more consistent since Brandin Bryant got in there. No complaints here.
