Davis has been one of the best defenders in the league and made some remarkable plays from his position, I seem to recall a leaping one-handed INT maybe in 2019? I wonder if this had to do with him not reporting for training camp, bad blood maybe? Only speculation on my part

Yes I'm sure you're right, a good example of a bad play in a game we lost. I'm certainly not suggesting he's been perfect or even great, only that he's not caving in constantly and being blown up all the time like it's been suggested. He's been beat, sure. So has perennial all-star and among the greatest OL of all time Stanley Bryant. So has Neufeld. So has Yoshi. Gray is now riding the pine. Maybe Eli doesn't make the same mistakes, maybe he doesn't draw flags and calls perfect protection schemes, maybe we'll even find out soon... whatever makes us a better team I'm all for it. Though, if I were a betting man I'd say Kola holds onto his starting spot out of the bye, same way I said he'd hold onto his starting position in the off-season and throughout camp. Is it the right call? Who can really say, other than we're 5-2 and near the top of the league in offense, our starting QB and RB are class of the league and that they don't do it all on their own

I believe the second holding flag was declined and inconsequential so I don't know how that impacts the grades but that is puzzling. It looks to me like the pressure is coming from everyone on the OL, not just the interior. I've watched a second time, focusing on the OL and trying to see what everyone else is seeing, and he just doesn't look as bad as I am being led to believe. The whole OL had struggles and got better as the game went on. I think that's typical and actually a sign that things are ultimately working... pound the ball, wear down the D, take control late and don't give it back. We aren't fully there yet but it feels close to me

Nope he snapped every ball, Eli came in for a few plays here and there especially late. Kola is not a world beater but boy is his 'cave in' reputation way overblown. Live in the GDT thought I was taking crazy pills, the 'Kolapse' when it's Bryant that oles his man, the supposed 'bad protection call' by Kola when Dobson just plain gets beat one on one, the 2nd down Bailey catch when 'Kola is in Collaros' lap' while literally being the furthest downfield of any OL, it's crazy that the entire OL can take turns coughing up bad plays but the center is the only one under a microscope on the forum I don't even like the guy that much it's the whipping boy routine that wears on me

Yes he looked suspect to me as well but they did take over in the 4th and he was a part of it. First game gelling, I am optimistic he can bring more in the long run

Fair, but that's the Johnny Augustine YPC avg argument over again though. You can't take away 'the easy ones', they happened and they count. Or we need to take away every other DB's 'easy ones' too No that's Kola

I suppose where things get blurry is when a guy (real-time example, Holm in game 1) gets targeted 4 times, makes 2 PKDs, but 3 DTs... at least one of those DTs came from a play that was not a target vs that player if 2 of his 4 targets were knocked down... so it's an interesting bit of data, but still far from the total picture. Above, if we directly correlate tackles to completions allowed, Holm has given up 100% of his targets while somehow knocking down 7 passes. Doesn't quite compute. But is is interesting nonetheless.

CFL.ca is unfortunately very limited right now, cfldb only has data from previous seasons Here's a little of what I scraped together so far: Holm - 7 games played, 29 targets (4.1/game), 7 PKDs 0 INTs Houston - 6 games played, 19 targets (3.1/game), 4 PKDs, 5 INTs Clements - 6 games played, 20 targets (3.3/game), 0 PKDs, 0 INTs Alexander - 7 games played, 21 targets (3.0/game), 0 PKDs, 1 INTs ADS - 5 games played, 23 targets (4.6/game), 3 PKDs, 0 INTs Holm certainly gets a share of targets but it's hardly lopsided. It appears ABS is quickly becoming the new target of choice for the opposing offense. Actual completion rates vs these DBs would be much more telling. I'll surely come fill this out further if anyone can point me in the right direction as to where to find catches allowed by/% compl. vs specific DBs

Any time I break out stats I'm told they aren't worth the paper they're written on anyhow, or that stats are for losers ho don't watch the game (pissing and snacking). I'm not going to bother anymore.
