  2. So if I call 911 and say 'My house might be on fire, I think you should come put it out if it is' I'm not actually asking anyone for help? Got it.
  3. LOL there I go mixing up my Ashton's again
  4. Fans pay to see good hockey and players should at least be able to play for pride if nothing else. Tanking is for losers. Last night was a fun game if a little sloppy and frustrating at times. I said when the puck hit the netting 'watch us score now' and we did. Poor Lowry
  5. Domestic assault charges that were placed against Wab in 2003 were stayed by the crown. That doesn't make him innocent necessarily, but let's be clear that these are unproven allegations that GCn20 is referring to. To this day Wab denies hitting or throwing the woman at the center of these allegations (her name is out there publicly in the papers but I'll not put it here out of respect). As for his other charges stemming from fights with cabbies and impaired driving, he has unequivocally apologized for pain he's caused directly or collaterally and has even been pardoned for both convictions. He straight up acknowledges he wasn't a great guy in his teens and twenties and his struggles with alcohol certainly exacerbated it. Since his parents helped him enter into rehabilitation he has reportedly stayed clean and sober and has not had any incidents with the law. He's attended AA as well as embracing more 'traditional methods' involving sweat lodges and fasting. He committed to making himself a better person and so far it seems to be working, in my opinion. A quote: "These are not episodes in my life I'm proud of," Kinew said. "I struggled with alcohol, and that caused me to behave in ways that weren't healthy for me, or those around me. When the alcohol stopped, so did the fights. Violence, racism, and sexism are unacceptable. I've apologized unequivocally, and I do so again: to anyone I harmed, I am sorry. "Because of my past, I understand the challenges of young people in our society who are struggling with the same things I was — alcohol, addictions, anger. I know that they can do better, because I learned how to do better," Kinew said. https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/1048866371651/ Above, a CBC interview very pointedly asking him about the charges when they resurfaced thanks to some anonymous tips during the leadership race vs COVID jet-setter Nikki Ashton
  6. Yes definitely and my hyperbole doesn't help the conversation I get that. I'm just thinking if there is such a thing as lazy optimists then surely there are lazy alarmists out there quick to share unrealized nightmare scenarios for clicks (not to say nature.com is clickbait... hello alternet!) It's fair and accurate for the author to say "there is no predestined evolutionary outcome for a virus to become more benign" but that's only because we do not operate in a vaccuum; demos, populations density, vaccination rates, so many factors contribute. It just seems alarmist to essentially say 'it technically COULD get worse though empirically most don't' but I will (grimly) change my opinion on the matter if we can ID a single virus that persists today that is more deadly, transmissible and vaccine resistant than it was when we discovered it
  7. Hockey game last night was about 10% or less masked at any given time by my estimate. 100% of staff though. Upon reflection I've decided to adopt the moniker 'lazy optimist' because I'll be damned if it doesn't fit me right
  8. Lazy optimism ffs its the natural course of virtually all viruses. Remind me again which virus known kept mutating til it was so unstoppable it wiped out all life on the planet
  9. Possible he relapsed ala Phillip Seymour Hoffman but who knows. Could have been a killer bee and it would be just as tragic.
  10. So I originally got into Taylor Hawkins back in the Alanis/Jagged Little Pill days. Infectious personality. Never not smiling. This one gets me worse than Tyree. One of those guys from your teens that wasn't all that much older than you and then SPLAT WTAF
  11. WHAT THE ****
  12. Anyone else playing Elden Ring? Wow! I'm already a Souls fan so I was sold from day one... even then, what an INCREDIBLE game that exceeded my already lofty expectations. Where other open worlds tout how big they are and you can 'go anywhere you see' only to find it boring and empty when you get there... Elden Ring HIDES just how massive it is. The world map just keeps zooming out the more I explore... hidden areas hidden within hidden areas... then you find out there is an underground zone with IT'S OWN map superimposed over the regular world map.... just massive and packed to the brim... no wasted spaces, no boring scenes, just pure gold. Even this many generations of the 'Souls-type' game later I still get the sweaty-palmed exhilaration that comes with finally beating that boss that's been mudholing you for the last hour
  13. A Montreal product that coached in Quebec hired by a team NOT called the Als, whoa He already did 2 years with the Als
  14. As I left the parking lot a human set of trucknuts parked his lift-kitted cliche right infront of the doors and went in without a mask. I'm sure he's 'just here for a sec' so no biggy
  15. 100% masked, staff and customer alike at my local Safeway this morning.
  16. Better to look good at practice than not, and that all looked good to me. Dom Davis also looked very good at practice though so there's that
  17. In Manitoba's case we shoulda had beds available in the province (or shouldn't have cut ICU capacity pre-pandemic to begin with), coulda hired trained and equipped emergency personnel to transfer ICU patients when beds did run out, woulda saved Krystal Mousseau's life and we'd have one less very clear failure to point at And what good are the toughest restrictions in the world if enforcement is sporadic and inconsistent at best? Springs? Monstrosity? Half the gyms in the city.... How were these places able to continue to function while flouting the 'toughest restrictions in the world' with impunity? Nobody in power ought to be patting themselves on the back for a job well done imo
  18. FantasEh was where CFL fantasy peaked, though it was far from perfect. TSN fantasy gets traffic because it's the only reliable CFL fantasy around, not because it's especially 'good'. A quality fantasy site would go a very long way in bringing in fans
  19. LOL I mean by sheer numbers alone they must be stronger, MTL has as many QBs under contract than almost any 3 Western teams combined
  20. Grant coughed up the ball on a return in the GC. When you touch the ball only so many times a game you keep a handle on it, especially the biggest game of the season. Couldn't that alone be enough to lose a returner his job?
  21. I actually watched the video where the quote in that headline came from, nobody was crying or complaining. It was actually very interesting getting to see behind the scenes footage from the war room. even if it is for another team. I wish the Bombers had something like Behind the R. Anyone that wants to grow interest in the CFL especially with a younger crowd would undoubtedly agree we should have a show like this.
  22. Sports journalists cherry picking juicy tantalizing soundbites is nothing new. I'm sure at some point Andrew Harris has fondly reminisced about his coaches teammates and fans but that isn't a very juicy headline or tweet next to 'the Bombers made a mistake'. Likewise, Kenny Lawler has surely praised the people around him for helping him get where he is now but we love to focus on how 'he' won the cup. In a lengthy nuanced conversation with sports journalists a player might get 5-6 of their boldest statements show up in print. Usually quoted directly, usually without full context. Not that I care very deeply about how someone not on our team feels about our team anyhow. These sort of disputes get settled in time, on the field.
  23. Don't we all miss the River Rouge?
