  1. Did anyone else hear the call as a Zach Collaros long bomb to Ehlers?
  2. There were absolutely small groups of people being very vocal about their dislike of the jets name and logo, calling it 'creeping militarism'. It was discussed nationally in the news and dragged on here on social media til their concerns were drowned out by the 'Go Jets Go' chant. Google is your friend, guys. It's weird to claim nobody made a stink about the name/logo when it was so hotly debated, if only briefly. You might recall NATO forces including Canadian fighter jets were bombing the piss out of Gadaffi in Libya around the time of the reveal. Canadian troops had been on the ground in Afghanistan for a decade. It's fair to be concerned about Canada's affairs in global military operations and it's fair to be concerned about normalizing tools of war via sports... but no, I don't think these people are making a resurgence and stripping the name and logo off our Jets.
  3. Edwards was a blessing, we were lucky to have such a trooper. And a sweep to Brock Ralph gets stopped for a 1 yard loss... again for the dozenth time
  4. The cold dispassionate clinical use of a racist term isn't necessarily racist. But there is a time and a place and maybe this just isn't the place.
  5. I'm not happy to see otherwise successful clubs paying for the Als and Argos to play in front of empty stadiums year after year (each team paid over 600k to prop up MTL alone in 2019)... but if it's what is best for the long term health of the league then I guess it's necessary. I think the name change is best for the long term health of the league and therefore necessary, like it or not. A million dollars doesn't even sound that bad. I would guess there will be an uptick in merchandise sales following the rebrand. Short term pain for long term gain.
  6. That is the EXACT correct answer
  7. Someone like who?
  8. Some people can't get out of bed without being offended by something. Google 'Empire' and see how many business names come up for Winnipeg alone. Quite obviously 'Empire' is a far more acceptable a name judging by how many people are currently using the term without backlash. Besides, you can't worry about offending every cry baby... these probably would be the same people that think the Jets name and logo is too militaristic and they can go kick rocks. Besides all of that... Star Wars theme music
  9. Empire seems like a decent solution. Alliterative, can keep the double E logos, is already a familiar term. Beats the Edmonton GREENGOLDS anyways
  10. Yes, the only instance I know of this being said came before folding. I seem to recall hearing Trestman was out of luck trying to collect his outstanding hundreds of thousands owed to him though. I don't know if anyone has actually been paid, only that they were told they would be.
  11. I know the XFL stated players would be paid their 2020 salaries, despite only playing 5 games before the COVID shutdown. Average XFL salary was around 55k USD
  12. Pretty much the opinion of literally every native person I've ever had the gall to ask about the issue. What you call a person is nowhere near as important as how you treat them and the respect you show them.
  13. DC had/has crazy talent. In the back of my mind I've often wondered if O'Shea and co. could slap some polish on that turd and make him a legit CFL receiver. Probably not worth even trying at this point...
  14. LOL I saw someone suggest a wealthy indigenous group (are there any? I legit don't know) buy the Redskins and name them the Washington Black Lives Matter so that ignorant white people get a taste of their own medicine. I say it's worth a shot, hell I'd even buy a hat.
  15. While I agree they are free to say what they want and call themselves what they want, they are not free of consequences. "Major sponsors" are prepared to pull their $ from the Esks. Sticking to your guns may result in a hole in your foot... For the record my understanding is the Inuit et al are not as offended by the team name and actually often embrace the Esks as 'their team'. They just want more engagement and positive representation.
  16. I used to f'ing hate O'Shea the player. Glad he's on our side now.
  17. I've always admired John Bowman. Stalwart, durable, always a factor
  18. Too bad, I liked your post of past players with pictures and write ups.
  19. Yes, thick Nik would probably have to top my list as well. His bruising frame, sure hands, deceptive agility... when he wasn't running trucking DBs and LBs he was hurdling them. His interviews were hilarious, his attitude was infectious... his twitter jokes crossed a few lines now and again but hey, nobodies perfect. Imagine he was a Bomber during Swaggerville.
