Keeping is an upgrade over Picard so no problem for me with that signing

Those guys are going to get flipped also to other teams... massive salary dump for the Leafs.

This is a huge trade... mainly for the salary dump by the Leafs.

My Leafs co workers are jumping for joy.... apparently they are not retaining any salary at all either. From the more knowledgeable hockey guys in the office it seems like this trade was great for the Leafs since they will likely re-trade some of the guys they got for more prospects and they unload that awful contract. The Sens lose a better stay at home d-man and take on a crappy contract on a player who is rapidly diminishing.

My main point about Messam was that the Blue won't sign the guys who will make top coin (Laurent, Harris) and instead would pick the 3rd or 4th best options since the free agent list is quite deep.

I wonder if the Blue will pick up a lot of free agents who are just a step below the cream of the crop that's available? Might get better value scooping up the Messams of the world rather then spending all the money on guys like Harris?

I'm curious to see why exactly they have done such a downward spiral? Maybe the Ikea location mistake crippled them to a point where they are in a huge hole?
