2024/2025 Blue Bombers Off-Season Thread
Brandon replied to TBURGESS's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
YouTube does not pay well at all, he would have to get in the 100 000 of views per video to make any decent money from ad revenue or potential sponsors. The CFL is far to niche to reach that level. I'm guessing the TSN panel members make $50 000 - 75 000 per year. That's what Glass Door suggests and it's Canadian Football.... the States pays way more because they have a significantly larger viewing audience and budget. -

I'm guessing the next step is who Edmonton decides to go forward with? Once that's decided then the remaining QB's will be taking pay cuts to be veteran back ups around the league. I'm curious on what happens with Strev and if he stays with us next season? -

Nichols checked down because he couldn't throw the ball with any velocity. The more LaPo had with Strev it ended up being ridiculous trick plays... when LaPo stuck with the basics it worked. I'm in favour of trying someone new... we don't need some kind of mad scientist of an OC to figure out that handing the ball off to Brady = 5+ yards on average. Maybe we need more creativity in getting Demski involved with the short passes since that seemed to have disappeared last season. Also Augustine still averaged 5.0 yards per carry yet again.. why not give him a few carries to help lighten the load on Brady. -
I'm sure Threads will make a come back also

It'll be dead within a few months, they already are begging people to join. See Mastadon from a few years back.

It doesn't seem like the old days when the club would sign an NFL cut mid season and that guy would make an impact right away. It feels like we try guys out in pre season and then roll them out through the year and never bring anyone else unless we run out of guys from injuries. -

Either way... some sort of change needs to happen. It is unfortunate that Zach is making such a hefty salary as it would be nice to have enough money for a 1a and 1b. I don't know if a Davis Alexander would want to sign for a smaller contract only for him to hold a clipboard. -

I am not worrying, I'm saying that average QB play may have gave us the win. Zach in the Grey Cup has played extremely sub par over the last few appearences. Reminder... he was outplayed by Cody Fajardo and Nick Arbuckle... that's not good. The question is... was it Zach's play that got us to the big game? I'm not so sure... I know if we had lost Brady that it would of been the difference between going to the cup or not. I'm curious to see how a different veteran qb would play on our team. Because I think our o-line isn't as bad as people have said... the receivers are above average and the rb play is outstanding. Maybe it is all coaching? That also is TBD. -

I wonder had Harris played for us in the Grey Cup if the outcome would of been different. Harris doesn't throw prayer and a wish deep throws... he's vanilla but maybe vanilla may have been a better shot then just chucking and praying. -

If I'm Vaj I would not sign with the Elks until they officially moved on from MBT/Ford. I don't think he wants to join any team where their is a chance that he is replaced. -

No issues with Castillo, I never was worried that he couldn't make a kick. The punter on the other hand can go, an easy position that we should have a competition to see if we can find a guy who at least has the ability to make a huge kick. Numerous times last year we played against teams that had a guy who could boom it deep when needed which instantly flipped 15 - 25 yards for the other team. -

Please keep the young guys... Holm + Ford are a must. Schoen and Lawler would also be priorities. I'm assuming Willie and Bryant stay. Many of those other guys can take off... they are either old and not worth an upgraded contract. Or they are very mediocre and were invisible for long stretches of the season and were not trending upwards. I really want an upgrade on the front 7 for our D. I remember as a kid guys like KD Williams would just wreck havok and take over games and make big plays on a frequent basis. It felt like none of our front 7 ever created turnovers or came up with sacks when they were needed. All of those guys on the d-line that they swapped through last season would make a play once in blue moon , none of those guys played better then a broken Jackson Jeffcoat, none of the linebackers stood out or even were solid like a guy like Jovon Santos-Knox that we used to have, and need I say anything about Jake Thomas? Out of all our free agency years recently... this one is actually one of our best. We have lots of dead weight to clear out and just maybe they'll make a splash and sign young quality players to fill in. I'm more then willing to have a year with young guys going through growing pains then for us to trot out broken old guys who just can't get the job done anymore. If we end up keeping Bighill and Thomas next season then I officially will give up before the first game is even played. I will be extremely disappointed. -

Imagine if Chris Jones becomes the HC for BC... that would be funny. -
Yes because Buck for some reason wants to play him like Lapo did with him doing gadget plays and being a battering ram. I almost want Strev to get a fresh start where they will treat him like a QB. I feel with our great RB and receivers... if we had a guy who can distribute the ball without taking unnecessary risks (i.e. Zach forcing throws and the ints getting out of control) that we would do really well. Sadly Trevor Harris in the grey cup would of done signficantly better then Zach. I'm guessing we stick with Zach next season and then two years from now they revisit who they want to start for the club. I'm guessing next year is just another year where we wash out and following that we go through the growing pains of starting with a new QB.

Anyone think that Calgary would be willing to trade for Zach? That's the only way I can see them getting VAJ? Otherwise maybe Edmonton cuts MBT and they would go for him?
-
I don't want to run O'Shea or Buck out of town. I think it's time for another round of cleansing and unfortunately the QB position is one that needs to be done sooner then later. On D , I want a different strategy. The Richie Hall / Younger D that 100% relies on amazing pressure from a few guys up front just doesn't cut it unless you have multiple all stars in those spots. I think it being tweaked and new (hopefully talented) recruits would make a huge difference. The whole season it felt so passive and anemic... at no point did I ever feel like we had the guys or the scheme to have our front 7 guys causing havok or creating big play turnovers. The secondary is legit... everything else just felt so stagnant. Also a new returner and punter please and thank you. I don't know why we kept trotting out mediocrity without attempting to find a guy who can do more then C level of play.

Well it was a fun ride , unfortunately it sucks pulling a Bills =\
-
This team lacks playmakers on D ... nobody makes the big play when we need it. The O is also very predictable.
-
I'm not a fan of the constant hail Mary deep throws. I miss the days where we grinded and had time of possession and would wear down defenses. Need the d to create a turnover also.
-
A weekend of over the hill fighters... it sure would be nice to see the best fight each other while in their primes. Jones vs Aspinall is / was the fight to make. Miocic from last night was very over the hill and would of been clobbered by most of the guys in the top 10 rankings.

You don't want to live in a world where a drunk girl says two words and suddenly makes millions of dollars?

I thought it was hilarious that people actually thought Tyson was going to win by vicious KO. Living in a bubble from 30 years ago when he was in his prime.

Is Bighill a free agent? Maybe he can sign a huge fat contract with a different team and help that club waste a roster spot.
