3 turds plus crappy honker preseason game 3
K-Shack replied to wbbfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I fear this regression is what we're going to be stuck with -- that we caught lightning in a bottle for a few seasons but that wore off. He's no threat with his legs, doesn't have a quick release, and now his accuracy is shot. Something needs to improve or we're hooped. Yeah me too. I think Brown is / is going to be the real deal. -
I renewed my flex pack but I'm only going to be able to go to one game because I've moved to BC (am still blue and gold through and through). I'm looking to sell tickets to the other games at or below face value. - Thursday June 6th: the home opener and hopefully a bit of revenge on the Als - Friday June 21: your chance to join the "BC Sucks" chant vs the Lions They're in Section 234, Row 22. Asking $50 per ticket (just below face value), but very much open to offers!

I figured BA was done but hopefully he comes back on a team friendly salary. I like Nick Hallett at safety a lot. He looked really solid in his reps there last year. Do you think Clements goes elsewhere? I prefer Cole over him but having both of them could be key to giving Bighill a lower snap count, especially if we go Canadian in several other places. A few key resignings for me are Castillo, Grant, Gauthier (if possible) and BOLO. I love Bailey but at this stage I'd rather have BOLO to back up Demski and Woli and for his high upside.

Thanks for clarifying! I only recalled the replay where they showed Holm taking the outside flat route and pointing the slot back to Bighill. But what you said makes good sense. Alexander hardly has the speed to play safety these days and definitely was a liability at halfback.

Bighill in the Free Press today... The veteran linebacker also wanted to clear the air on what happened on the 23-yard touchdown Als quarterback Cody Fajardo threw to Cole Spieker in the third quarter with Bighill in coverage. “If you guys in the media are maybe a little bit more savvy watching football than maybe your average person, you know that we don’t ask linebackers to cover receivers vertically down the field,” Bighill said. “Let’s just say I was trying to cover up and help out. Was that my man in man-to-man coverage? No. But it’s OK, there was a miscommunication that Montreal did a good job of exploiting, coaching-wise.” ... Tell us it was Holm's fault without telling us it was Holm's fault. And I'm sure he's not wrong but not a very leader-like thing to share in the media

Call it what you want … you need to move on from Collaros

Bighill was unplayable with his injury. I can understand bringing Schoen out there with a snap count and for specific situations, and he did well in those situations as a clutch second down converter. But the roster decision of Bighill over Rose or Haba/Fox, and then having him out there in the second half covering a slotback instead of having Cole or Clements do it was in my opinion the biggest blunder. Gauthier was noticeable in a very good way compared to a hobbled Bighill. -

Brown is the Aaron Rodgers behind a Favre of Zach Collaros. We may get a couple more good years out of Zach, or eight of Brown. I think the franchise would be better with the latter (my forum name aside) -
I am sure grateful we have him as our DC rather than Etch a Sketch

Perhaps it's recency bias, the free clappers, or sitting in a different section (I was in accessible seating in the end zone), but that was the loudest atmosphere from start to finish that I can remember. -

1. Brady. Full on beast mode on that first drive touching the ball on all 9 plays with positive yardage (I think the other play was an incomplete to someone else) 2. Lawler. He's too hot and cold for my liking given how hot he can be when he's on, but I'm glad we was hot tonight when we needed it. 3. The entire D on the field and in the booth. A master class on the front and back ends HH. Hallett with the blocked punt, recovery, and return for the winning TD. Random musing of the night: the best thing our O did after the first drive was not turn it over, and have very few negative plays. I don't think we played very well on O but we also didn't royally screw up like in recent playoff games. Incredible. And only 3 points allowed after losing bighill I believe. The depth at linebacker and the younger corners worked so well. And obviously the Jeffs -

Maybe I'm missing someone obvious, but who would be our rookie of the year candidate this year? Haha -- who only made it into a few games? ADS -- who played and then was PRed and then cut? Damian Jackson? That one would sure be something! No Alfords or Schoens this year to say the least. -
Michael O'Phea?

1. Brady. I'll plagiarize myself from the game day thread. Brady deserves the Andrew Harris treatment of getting the ball in some form 20-30 times a game. We are successful when we run our offense through him. It is the key to opening up everything else. When we go away from him, bad things happen (or at least the absence of good things). Nobody deserved the game winning TD more than he did. 2. Lawler. Guy can disappear for some games but when he's on, he's on. Without looking at the stats, my guess is that he was something like 9 catches on 10 targets. And from my eyes near the end zone that his route cleared out space for Woli's TD. (Looks like he was 9 for 11, but one incompletion Zach skyed the pass) 3. Parker. I think we may be better off with him at the boundary CB than with Rose there. And obviously his game saving TD. HHs to two oft-criticized players. Jackson for a catch out of the backfield and getting major props from teammates as he came off with a little celebration (caveat -- still a waste of a roster spot). Kramdi for some pass breakups including a key one in the 4th. Plus he got hosed on what shouldn't have been a PI in the first.

He should not be boundary CB -
I remember watching at Cincinnati in college and thought he was characterized as a bit of a dual threat. Looked up his stats and he ran for about 200-300 yards a season each of his starting years in college, plus a few years early in his CFL career. I fully agree that getting a few more runs would help him out. The RPO where he pulled it and ran for 8 or 9 last night was a good example. (I wasn't sure if it was a broken play at first but I think it was designed).
-
I really hope he gets our MOP nod in addition to the obvious MOC. He deserves both. I'm concerned that two of our highest paid players are not showing up on the regular. I wonder if the last two years and the 2019 cup run were actually a bit of an aberration for Zach Collaros. Always been a good-to-great QB, and I wonder if he's coming back down to that level after two years of undeniably MOP level play. And for Kenny Lawler -- he can show up and take over games and then go entire halves without getting a single target. Is he not getting open consistently? Is he being doubled?
-
1. Brady. I echo what @wbbfan said 100%. I'll add that I think he definitively is our MOP this year and I'd suggest MVP as well. I think we survive an injury to Zach better than an injury to Brady. He's the straw that stirs the drink. And his seal block opened up the edge for Prukop to walk in for the winning TD 2. Schoen. Clutch and smooth 3. Woli. I think he caught everything thrown his way? HH. Prukop. Did his job every time. My provocative question of the night -- given Zach's apparent regression, is he going to be worth his contract over the next two years? Would we be better off developing Brown? I'm less sure of the answer than I'd like to be and it's a moot point because we're obviously sticking with Zach, but it begs the question a bit at least. Zach is a surefire Ring of Honor inductee and I love everything he's done for us but he is so up and down this year, making some questionable decisions and ugly throws.

Good points, all around. Especially about time of possession mattering more than number of possessions, and the last 3 minutes of the fourth clearly mattering more than last 3 minutes of the second, which would be why teams tend to take the ball in the first after the coin toss when the winning team defers.
