Who said Etch can't make adjustments to his philosophy .. Are we sure it's Etch making this call? Me thinks O'Shea may be taking the bull by the horn a bit.

I'll give you 3. DeVone Claybrooks is the DL coach with the Stamps & Huff was going to promote him to DC as he thought he was ready until Rich Stubler became available. Tony Missick is the linebacker coach here in Calgary & from all accounts may be ready for a DC position. He has NCAA & CFL experience. Barron Miles in Saskatchewan is supposed to be a very good coach & may be ready to step up to DC. Now maybe I'm confused here but it sounds to me like Mr Dee is describing wanting a young Etch.... Typical. Psshhh...you should never listen to that guys ideas. -
I know right? I kept half hearing about this on the radio, and finally went to the site thinking there was a discount, and all it is is them basically loaning you the money. WTF is that? MPI is nothing but a friggen monopoly. Sucks that we can't have more car insurance providers like in the US so our rates could come down. WHY IS CANADA SO EXPENSIVE!!??!?!

Gary Etcheverry prediction came true!

I actually thought i heard his name thrown around in the off-season, not sure if it was someone on the fan board here or if it was in the paper and it turned out he didn't want to leave regina because he has a good thing going there. With that being said tho, I suppose if he wanted to become a DC, that would be a promotion for him, so i suppose technically the riders would probably let him take the DC role here, if it was offered to him and he wanted it. I'm really under the impression though that he doesn't want to be a DC at this time. Yes Miles name was thrown around this past offseason as a potential DC but then he signed a 2 year extension. Yeah but he's a coach, not a player. Signing an extension doesn't mean he can't quit the Riders and come and be our DC. -
Probably one of the only times in history where I agree with most of what Friesen wrote...except for the parts about the Bombers having no hope. He's such a Debby Downer.
-
Man, you were really stretching to make that joke weren't you?
-
A team desperate for a back like Hamilton might take a flier on him. Or a team desperate for someone who can catch the ball like Ottawa may use him as a receiver.
-
I think he was just stating that benching him isn't going to solve the offensive issues. That it's not just him out there running around and that there are 11 other guys that should be accountable. He was probably feeling like he was being the scape goat. Either way, whatever he meant, asking for his release was a cowards way out.
-
I say we trade him for Jon Cornish as per Pentons ridiculous article from today's Sun. Which article? I checked all 4 of them online and didn't see anything about trading Cornish for Vega.
-
Yeah, I think we keep Vega and bring him into training camp next year to see if this was just a fluke season, or if it was the turf toe or whatever that is holding him back.

Is it necessary to hire coordinators with CFL experience?
Logan007 replied to B-F-F-C's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
That jackass they hired to coach Montreal last year comes to mind. That guy acted like he was 2legit and his amazing NCAA coaching was going to win him the Grey Cup. He probably never bothered to watch a CFL game prior to being hired. -
Funny how there are 4 schools of thought here...which covers everything regarding OC and DC. - Group 1 wants both MB and Etch gone (I'm in that group) - Group 2 says that it's definitely MB that's out the door come end of season - Group 3 says that it's definitely Etch that's out the door come end of season - Group 4 (smallest group) thinks both should get another chance
-
This is YOUR FAULT!!! You said you shouldn't go cause they'd lose and they did.... ......NOELLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!
-
You mean MB? I say get rid of them both. Everyone has figured out our D and our O schemes and neither coordinator seems to be able to outsmart the other team. It's just sad to watch. We need better players as well. But I'm tired of all of this mediocre vanilla play calling on both sides.
-
Wow that's exactly what I did. Except I went outside and did a bit of yard work instead at halftime.
-
Pity anybody forced to run behind the likes of Dan Gyetvai, Moe Elewonibi (in that stage of his career anyway), Mudge from 2004 on, and Benidict Ibisi. Charlie deserves badges of honour for doing that. Someone mentioned earlier RBs who can take a 3 yard loss and turn it into a 3 yard gain. In my time (1980-present) I've never seen anyone work more such miracles than ol' Charlie... You guys took the words right out of my mouth when I read that Barry Sanders comment. That's the second time I've read that and the second time I've thought...umm...CHARLES ROBERTS!
-
LOL so true. I gain more and more respect for you with each passing day. You are the kind of non-Bomber fan I can tolerate around here. Aw, shucks. We still have to keep you at arms length though...and curse you out when the Bombers lose to the Ticats...but otherwise, I agree with KBF.
-
Anything in particular he said or just a gut feeling? When asked about reasons for the current losing streak he mentioned the defense and special teams as problem areas.Kind of a stretch to come to that conclusion if that's what you're basing it on.Did you miss the part where I said I get a "sense"? That's the most blame I've heard him lay. The presser is available for anyone to watch. Check it out for yourself and draw your own conclusions. The part I'm referring to is near the beginning. I stated this earlier in the thread but, I watched that presser and I MAYBE got a sense he's looking for a better special teams coach, but nothing in what he said made me think he was going to let go of Etch. Heck, when they asked about the run defense he kept saying that their losses were more due to penalties and turnovers. Unless he really dislikes Etch's D and he can find someone better, we're probably still stuck with Etch next year.

I wouldn't be all that concerned with Willy not being able to get the handle on a new system. We're not talking about going from biology to physics. Maybe a long shot, but I still like Lapo and think he is better suited as an active OC. He is one person off the top of my head, of whom being out of coaching for a couple years has probably helped him gain a new perspective on the game and that's intriguing to me. I agree. I think it's hilarious when people say that. A good OC will figure out plays around what type of QB he has to work with. It's not like the OC is some guy that's gonna be like "oh sorry, I can't work with so and so unless he's a pocket passer. I can only create offensive schemes around pocket passers". I also have stated I'd rather see Lapo back here as OC rather then MB. He's not Cortez, but he's better then MB.
-
You mean the presser posted on the Bomber site or was there a different one? Because I didn't get any impressions of him hinting any of that. Maybe Tracy, but not Etch or MB.
-
Hey, it's not our fault you drove to the Yukon and went all crazy. Don't go blaming us there mr. coocoocachoo.

Because if we blind fold them they won't be able to find their way back up here?!?

The Bombers Won't Win Again This Season
Logan007 replied to Atomic's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Bellefeuile has shown the last few weeks that he doesn't have the creativity to move this team forward.... this offence peaked in mid-summer. I agree somewhat with not wanting to change the system year in & out.... and maybe he's not quite there yet, but I would not be opposed to canning Marcel and giving the keys to Buck for the rest of the season as a trial run! I think with a full offseason to prepare, Buck could put together a better, more creative offence than what we're seeing right now. I'm sure people are going to disagree with me... but really, there aren't a whole lot of other options out there that know the CFL game real well, are there!? Buck!?! LOL! What makes you think Buck would be able to do anything? I mean, it's not like our rb's are doing a fantastic job with him as coach. The guy has yet to prove himself as a coach in any capacity.
