  1. Nate do your stories happen to come from your brother's friend's uncle's next door neighbor's sister's cousin's ass by any chance?
  2. You should stop talking about the NHL and the Jets. The Jets weren't here when they built the True North center, the Moose were. Just saying.
  3. In Homer Simpsons voice: "Aaawww....the Jacksonville Jaguars!!"
  4. How the heck did you get lost in Kenora? It's like 2 feet long. It's a pretty town, haven't been in a while. Urbanspoon some stuff I'm sure you'll find some decent eats through there. And if you plan to travel with MBF, just make sure you have a GPS with you.
  5. SHUT UP!!!! You're making me hungry right around supper time for something that my wife is not making! I'm type A...suppose to be a vegetarian I think. I like meat too much. We were just having a discussion today about Dairy Delight fatboys. I gotta stop talking about food.
  6. Yeah this bugs me a lot too. If you want to be vegan or vegetarian for your health, then go for it, but enough with the sob story on us killing animals. Killing for sport pisses me off, and is the reason we have so many endangered species in the world. I also hate the way some companies slaughter animals in the plant and practically torture the animal...if you're going to kill something don't torture it, make it quick and painless. I've seen video's of the way they start cutting into the animal while it's still alive cause their too cheap to kill the thing first. That really makes me want to shove something sharp up that company's anal cavity. But killing to eat the meat and use it's hide for clothing...that's been in practice for thousands of years. The natives were the best at it as they used every piece of the animal, and to me that's the right way to do it. I WISH I had the self discipline to not eat meat. The way animals are treated by big companies is dispicable. If you have Netflix there are several documentaries about this which I cant remember the names of off the top of my head. I like meat. So get it. but I have no problem with a vegan or vegetarian reminding me of the criminal nature of how our meat is processed. Because quite honestly, the day we demand silence on the issue, is the day we agree its ok. I mean, sure, I dont want someone at CHOP, standing at the table shaming me. But I have no problem with people protesting these companies and trying to make change. They are much better people than I am and I applaud their effort. That's why I try and get my meat from our local farmers. At least they hack them up properly instead of torturing them. And yes I've watched those documentaries.
  7. I grew up drinking milk straight from the cow, and it definitely tasted better than what is sold in stores, that's for sure. We'd have friends visit us from Calgary, and they'd bring store-bought milk because they hated the taste of our straight from the cow stuff. It was also extremely rich, as we just skimmed off the cream, so it was probably like drinking homo milk x 2. I stated this earlier in the thread. If you're gonna drink cows milk, get it straight from the cow, unprocessed. All the enzymes and nutrients are burned off when they pasteurize it. Even the enzyme for breaking down lactose is in it, so it makes it easier for human consumption. I have an allergy to milk that mucks up my sinuses and makes me super mucusy, as well I'm a bit lactose intolerant. So I wish I could try this just to see if I could tolerate it.

  9. Regarding the China Study. I, who reads a lot about health and nutrition...and I mean A LOT, don't completely agree with it. There are a lot of things that "sound" right about the study when you read it, but when you start to think about the technical aspects and then do some research, it just doesn't add up. Not only that, but talk to a Chinese person. They may not eat red meat from cows, but they do eat pork, chicken, turtle, snake and fish amongst other things I don't really want to mention that are weird. They are not vegetarians. There are better books out there to read that are more sensible and true. If you want to be a vegetarian or vegan, great, but don't base it off of this book.
  10. Yeah but you're a self-righteous ******.Be that as it may.........I'm still right.I'm not sure what you're right about, but you are of course entitled to your opinion. Unfortunately for you, the pro-pot crowd is winning the battle. Weed will be legal as soon as the conservatives inevitably get knocked out of power. You will be surrounded by slow-moving, indifferent stoners before you know it. See here's the thing. That will never happen even if they legalize it as they're going to put just as many laws on it as they do drinking, if not more. You make it sound like this is going to be some free walk in the park and people can just light up anywhere. Ever heard of a vaporizer? Can smoke where ever I want and no one has any idea. If you think they won't pull you over if they see you using one just because you can use it to smoke tobacco think again. Why? Because most people who smoke tobacco are either smoking a cigarette, a pipe or a cigar. I don't care if they legalize it or not, but if they do, just make sure that people have to smoke it in their own homes and not be allowed to do it just anywhere like a cigarette. I already want to beat people who smoke around me, I don't need to inhale that crap too.

  12. My neighbour that I mentioned earlier who went organic has also decided gluten free is the way to go. Cutting it out doesn't do very much for you, and can actually be worse for you if you're still eating the same kinds of food but with the gluten removed. The more I post in this thread the more I'm tempted to walk across the street and punch him in the mouth. I think the problem with gluten is that we human beings eat waaaaay too much of it. Way more then we're supposed to. Yes, some people are gluten intolerant, but I don't think the people who aren't need to cut it out entirely. I believe we just need to cut back on eating so much of it. And eating gluten made from fresh flower as opposed to flower that we leave sitting in our cupboards and on the shelves for months at a time. That would probably help people out way more then cutting it out. There is a lot of B vitamins in fresh ground whole husk flower. Also, too much gluten/carbohydrates can cause inflammation in the body leading to a lot of chronic illnesses, but moderation it is still good for you.
  13. LOL - every time I post that story on an internet forum, some angry Vegan bozo responds with crap like this. So you are saying that pale skinny vegan kid who had no energy was just a figment of my buddy's imagination? What a joke. Hey, I am sure there are healthy vegan people somewhere, and even healthy vegan kids, but the adults have to be very careful to ensure those growing kids still get all of the nutrients they need, and I'm sorry but eating a few carrots and a hamburger bun isn't going to do it for a 12 year old boy. They need a lot of calories and protein. And if you don't know what you are doing, and just following some kind of stupid fad to sound cool to your fellow Vegan pals and Yuppie buds then you need to actually do the work so you don't hurt your kids and stunt their growth. That's all I am saying. KBF, first off there's no need to resort to name calling. No one is coming out and calling you some ignorant uneducated sheep that's programmed to believe whatever TV and the government tell you are they? What some are saying here is that the pale skinny kid with no energy is probably not on the proper vegan diet for children. As I stated before if you're going to have your children eat vegan you have to do it correctly. You have to treat it like a science. You can't be as carefree with it as you can when you're an adult. And even as an adult you have to watch that you're getting the proper nutrients. So just because one set of parents aren't doing it right doesn't mean all vegans are like that one child. You're stereotyping them. I could come out and say the same thing about idiots that don't care if their kids get their veggies and fruits because their parents bring them to McD's all the time or their parents just don't give a crap about healthy eating. They're worse then the people who aren't "veganizing" (I just made that up...yes I'm that good) their children properly. Why don't you ***** about all the fat kids you see running around...or should I say dragging their asses around, because their parents feed them crap, then give them treats all the time, etc... Wanna get mad at someone, their the group you should be hating on. Their kids are probably going to die of a heart attack by the time they reach 35.
  14. Regarding this point, I will comment on. As mentioned before, in countries such as India, Japan, and Peru where average daily calcium intake is a third lower then in North America, the incidence of bone fractures is quite low. Of course, these countries differ in other important bone-health factors as well, such as level of physical activity and amount of sunlight, which could account for their low fracture rates. Now, in order for our bodies to actually absorb calcium properly, there are other vitamins and minerals that need to come into play, such as Vitamin D, Vitamin K, magnesium, etc... There is no vitamin K in milk, and the Vitamin D that they add to milk is D2, which is less absorble by our bodies then the slightly more expensive D3. The amount of Magnesium is also relatively small. So the question is, are you actually absorbing the calcium from milk? Like any other animal derived protein-rich food, milk has a positive potential renal acid load which triggers a protective biological reaction to neutralize all the damaging acidic protein before it reaches the kidneys. The body is designed for survival, so it sacrifices bone density to protect the kidneys and urinary tract because the latter are essential to survival. And the most readily available source of acid neutralizer is in the bones. So even though milk contains calcium, it ends up sapping your bones of that crucial mineral. And on this point there is a quote I found from Amy Lanou Ph.D., nutrition director for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine in Washington, D.C., who states that: “The countries with the highest rates of osteoporosis are the ones where people drink the most milk and have the most calcium in their diets. The connection between calcium consumption and bone health is actually very weak, and the connection between dairy consumption and bone health is almost nonexistent.” And lastly...cows milk is for baby cows who have 4 stomachs to process this liquid. I am not a baby cow. FYI, this is all coming from someone who loves milk and still has the occasional pizza and burger with cheese. I just don't think consuming it on a large scale is necessary. And if you're going to drink milk, I think it's probably better in its raw state (enzymes and all) as long as the cows you're getting it from are properly checked and made sure there is nothing harmful coming from them. Unfortunately I don't think this would work on a large scale because the cattle would not end up being properly checked. To me, if I'm going to drink milk, I want it coming from a human woman's boob damnit! Get plenty of exercise, eat lots of legumes and dark leafy vegetables, some fruits and some meat, and get out in the sun for at least half an hour or more every day, and you should be good to go. Just my .02 cents.
  15. That's about where the "all meat" diet will get you.
  16. LOL this reminded me of a story a friend of mine told me about how his 12 year old son had a bunch of his friends over for his birthday party. My friend was at the barbecue all afternoon grilling up tons of burgers and hotdogs as of course 12 year old boys can eat constantly, when this little pale kid comes up to him and asks him just for a hamburger bun and some carrots. Apparently his parents were forcing him to be a "vegan" and he couldn't eat any meat. My friend said this kid had no energy, and could barely play with the other boys. He looked pale and so unhealthy. I get it if you believe in this organic thing and want to waste your money on it, but turning your poor kids into vegans is just plain wrong. You're just showing your ignorance on this topic more and more. There are Vegans who are elite athletes, run marathons, win weight lifting competitions. Some pale kid...give me a break! Of course there are, however you have to actually put a lot of work into it if you want to make sure your body is getting all the nutrients it needs. If you just eat vegetables you're not going to be all that healthy. What really bothers me is the notion that people get that certain lifestyles are healthiest. You can be healthy eating a hell of a lot of variety of things, it's just a matter of having a good nutritional background to actually understand what you need and where you can get it from. Blitz, you're also talking about full grown adults. I do believe you can raise kids as vegans, but you probably have to do it right and like 17 said, give them the correct nutrients they need to grow. Kids will need some kind of supplementation for the nutrients they're not getting from beef as well. Personally, I'm not a fan of veganism, and I think kids need meat to get the correct nutrients in their diet. These kids are growing after all and they need good amounts of protein. But after adulthood, go nuts with veganism or vegetarianism or whatever you want. But while you're growing, I think it's best to have more then just fruits and veggies. But that's just my opinion.
  17. YES! Thank you. I was like, they look like someone else's uniform, but I couldn't remember which team. Probably couldn't have been that hard... the only other team that wears red and black! But I agree that the all-black and all-white looks very pale... I also thought a team called redblacks would feature a little more red on their jerseys.... it's just the numbers on the homes and basically non-existent on the roads.... just changing up the pants would make a big difference, red pants at home and red or black on the road I'm very tired today! LEAVE ME ALONE *runs into my room crying*
  18. YES! Thank you. I was like, they look like someone else's uniform, but I couldn't remember which team.
  19. Yeah, looks pretty generic. I was expecting something a little more. Although generic can be good as to much can end up being just too much.
  20. In regards to this, I just wanted to apologize if I did come off as acting like that. My brain automatically goes on the defensive when I even think someone might start attacking me. I actually don't care what other people stuff down their gullets...well, I mean I do care as I want people to be healthy, but I get more irritated when all I see people do is eat crap (and I mean every damn day not just as a treat) and then ***** how they never feel well. Otherwise I don't really care if someone eats organic or not. I actually don't eat all organic, mostly because we don't have access to it, but I'd prefer, as 17 said before, to eat more garden grown foods and buying from farmers markets. I love my garden...WHERE ARE YOU SUMMER!!!! But I do believe there has to be better ways out there to farm and sustain good crops without having to spray synthetic pesticides on everything. I've been reading a lot on Australian farmers and how they rotate their crops and don't even till their soil much so that the winds don't erode their land. They let the worms do all the tilling for them. It's very interesting. Not that we can do the same thing here as Australia, but I like when people come up with better ways of doing things in a more natural way. I just think we humans like to play God a little too much with everything and think we know better then nature. Anyway...that's it.
  21. and i think that denying a kid the occasional pogo or jos louis is verging on child abuse. Wow...I had to actually look up both of those things...I'm not a good acronym guy so pogo went over my head. The Jos Louis...weren't those called something different when we were growing up? Half Moon pie's or something like that. I remember eating them I just don't remember them being called Jos Louis. I don't think my kids have ever eaten one...they get other treats though from time to time. I EVEN BAKED OATMEAL COOKIES DAMNIT!!! Don't look at me like that...I know you want some...I know you want some of my cookies.
  22. You liked your own post. That's so Road Griller of you.
  23. HEY! Don't judge me just because the smallest I carry are thousand dollar bills man.
  24. I could add that there have been other health benefits not mentioned, such as consistent blood test readings, less coughing and a general turn away from unhealthy eating, and now that you mention it…more power, so I can't offer that as proof, more so dietary choices, but I can safely say that watching what I eat before it goes in, definitely works for us as things turn out. It has not been a one week turn around for us, more so a delving into and learning experience over the last 3 and a 1/2 years. It probably started upon moving here and the close proximity to a farmer's market that is walking distance to our place. So, it has evolved slowly, kinda like the Bomber offence. Damn you and your delicious Okanagan Valley!!!!
  25. Geez way to ruin my whole response.
