  1. I think the plural form of elk is still just elk. So when I hear 'welcome the Edmonton Elk to the field' I would half expect a solitary hoofed mammal to exit the tunnel. Not intimidating at all A chocolaty bar, however, would strike terror in the hearts of their opponents.
  2. 98(also here) was the lowest since 75.There were 3 factors for that. -brutality of the 91 game's weather had fans across that league saying fool me once.. -major price increase -we sucked as a team....again Those fans concerned about the weather only fooled themselves as it was record warmth that day. 98 yes thank you. Got them mixed up.
  3. That's why their mascot is now named Homer the Brave. (Seriously) Perfect solution then...dress up the Edmonton mascot as an Eskimo bar.
  4. White scientists? From the 15th/16th century? I don't know how many "scientists" actually lived in Canada during that time. In any case, no one really knows, but there's a few theories. From Wikipedia: "Two principal competing etymologies have been proposed for the name "Eskimo," both derived from the Innu-aimun (Montagnais) language, an Algonquian language of the Atlantic Ocean coast. The most commonly accepted today appears to be the proposal of Ives Goddard at the Smithsonian Institution, who derives it from the Montagnais word meaning "snowshoe-netter"[11] or "to net snowshoes."[1] The word assime·w means "she laces a snowshoe" in Montagnais. Montagnais speakers refer to the neighbouring Mi'kmaq people using words that sound very much like eskimo.[12][13] In 1978, Jose Mailhot, a Quebec anthropologist who speaks Montagnais, published a paper suggesting that Eskimo meant "people who speak a different language".[14][15] French traders who encountered the Montagnais in the eastern areas, adopted their word for the more western peoples and spelled it as Esquimau in a transliteration. Some people consider Eskimo derogatory because it is widely perceived to mean[11][16][15][17] "eaters of raw meat" in Algonkian languages common to people along the Atlantic coast.[1][18][19] One Cree speaker suggested the original word that became corrupted to Eskimo might have been askamiciw (which means "he eats it raw"); the Inuit are referred to in some Cree texts as askipiw (which means "eats something raw").[18][20][19][21] In 1977, the Inuit Circumpolar Conference meeting in Barrow, Alaska, officially adopted "Inuit" as a designation for all Eskimo peoples, regardless of their local usages.[citation needed] The Inuit Circumpolar Council, as it is known today, uses both "Inuit" and "Eskimo" in its official documents" http://anthropology.si.edu/goddard/images/goddard.jpg I don't know. Looks pretty pale to me. But you are right. No one really knows for sure. You said who first named them. It sure wasn't Goddard...if it was that's a pretty clear picture they took of him hundreds of years ago.
  5. Apparently they said it was the second lowest attendance since 1975. The lowest being 1978. Just informing, not dissing.

  7. Congratulations to the Eskies. Glad they won if it couldn't be us.
  8. If there's one thing I know, it's that there's way too many people out there with too much time on their hands trying to make a name for themselves by being "offended" by everything. It's the same people that want to live in their little bubble where no one should get hurt or feel any kind of pain or discomfort. The same people who don't want to have grades in school or score points in sports because they don't know how to teach their children how to win or lose properly, or how to pick themselves up, and dust themselves off. I'm not saying no one should never be offended, but lately everyone is getting offended by everything.
  9. Love the aerial shots of the stadium.
  10. How the hell did my phone autocorrect the name Obed to zoned? Stupid Apple products. Or maybe my phone is offended by Obed so it didn't use his name.
  11. I think zoned is just trying to make a name for himself by stirring the pot. I've read a lot of comments by Inuit people saying that the word Eskimo is commonly used amongst their own people and is not an offensive term. Hell, it's like having a team named after you.
  12. The more I look at it, the more it bums me out. Don't we have enough cloudy days up in Canada that we have to use gray as a color in our CFL logo?
  13. It insights war and the blowing up of certain things. GAH THE HUMANITY. BTW, I love how most of the Inuit people on that CBC Eskimo's article don't want them to change it as it's not a name of disrespect and that elder people still call themselves Eskimo's up north and down south and that most Inuit people don't even find the name offensive, because it's not.
  14. It's all right.
  15. x2, he felt impossible to catch. I'm satisfied with at least being on the leaderboard Thanks guys; now I'm going to spend next season near the bottom lol. 4 more weeks and I would have caught up to you. I'm sure of it.
  16. That's just crazy talk. You can take your lip service elsewhere. In this city, we only interview ONE PERSON! We find what we want, we make sure we get it on the cheap side, and we gets it.
  17. What are you talking about? No one said he was coming here. They asked if you would pursue him if he became available.
  18. Yet he got us to the Grey Cup. Your point has been rendered invalid.
  19. So they didn't have a contract. They had an email that was rescinded two days later. In two days, they hired enough people for this job that they need to recover $40k ? You spoke what was on my mind. What the hell did they do in 2 days that would come to this amount?!?! LOL. Seems ridiculous.
  20. Saw that trailer this morning. Looks awesome so far.
  21. Well I'm thoroughly disgusted. Thanks for posting the picture.
  22. And I find it offensive that I'm not able to feel that some things are weird. Perhaps if we both learned to manage our own emotions better we'd be more ok with those of others. You're welcome to find it weird. Just as I can find that a bit disrespectful. I think there's room for both of us to have our opinions. I find it surprising and unappealing to eat chicken fetus in the egg. I am friends with people that do and I attempted to try it..... the result was unsuccessful You mean the yolk or do they actually eat eggs that have been fertilized by the male?
  23. Well this is ho-hum news. He's better then MB, but not by much. I think he got a bum wrap as HC when he was here, but I'd still rather see someone who's a few steps above MB at OC who calls both a good air and ground attack.
  24. Isn't it an authentic video game?
  25. OMG you watch comic book TV shows...
