Team Losing Because Of Coaching Decisions
Logan007 replied to TransconaBomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I personally hope Marve is good. My points in all these threads have just been that we haven't seen enough of him to have deemed him the second string. Now that we've seen enough of Brohm to know he really is bad, I'm ready to see Marve play. Whether he can play well or not, though, is the big question. -

Don't bother. I've shown him the stats many times. He keeps acting like they mean nothing. They mean very little, considering the unusual situations that he played in. And despite those stats, Marve has been just as effective, if not more effective than his peers at moving the chains in those games. Yet you keep bringing up his stats from his preseason game to compare. Yet those stats mean even less. -

I think with Marve, he just wants to go out there and call his own plays rather than run the plays that Marcel is calling (which probably isn't always a bad thing because MARCEL BELLEFEUILLE!). That's probably what they mean when he's not "learning the system". He probably also wants to ad lib as he goes. And the Coach's probably like that in him, and they can see that quality in him, but he's just not there yet. He's got the talent, but he wants to rush himself to Elite Veteran QB rather then take his time and learn how to do it properly. -

Then why say it? Because Tracker obviously said "If an athlete cannot crack the starting lineup in 7 years, it is never gonna happen, no matter what the sport". Spuds just pointing out someone who did to prove Trackers statement is wrong. It can happen. The fact that he's not comparing AC to Brohm has nothing to do with his post. It has to do with proving a statement is incorrect. -
I love both of them. For me it would depend what type of run you're deciding to play. Cotton can maneuver around guys and Marshall is more smash mouth.

I really don't get this kind of thinking. Having more armed people in the theatre would have done nothing but let more bullets fly (IMO). The gunman ambushed those people, so he was getting off shots before people had a chance to do react regardless. He might not have died by his own hand if there were other guns, but the end result would still have been the same. After a couple of these types of shootings, I'm surprised there haven't been increases in security at theatres... metal detectors at the very least. At least there hasn't been increases up here, they may have done that down south. Exactly. One guy starts shooting, and then you pull out your gun in a dark theater and start shooting back, and you can't see well, so you start shooting at what you think is the guy and end up hitting an innocent bystander.

MB is definitely a problem. His plays are lackluster and predictable. By the end of the half the other team has figured us out. Like others have pointed out, look what he did to Calvillo in Montreal. People can talk about his work with Calvillo all they want. It was worth considering his work with Calvillo when we hired him, obviously, by looking at his prior work and seeing his successes and failures. He's been here long enough that we can judge whether he is the right OC for us based on what he is showing as Bomber coach. I see an offense that's been able to attack downfield often yet still manage to maintain a high completion rate from their (starting) QB. I think almost every fan in the CFL feels their OC is too predictable. Its always easy to look back on it. Part of me feels that fans want some ridiculous trick plays consistently, but that's not part of the discussion here, just a tangent on my part. I think if you study the offense week in and week out you can see the wrinkles he keeps adding. The formations and movement prior to the snap for instance have shown a clear desire to show the current opponent one thing, and present further options in later weeks. Little things, like having Moore head towards the QB with the potential of taking a hand off. All this isn't to say MB is perfect. He deserves his share of the blame as the guy who's in charge of the offense. Still, MB gets little of the praise when the offense works and seemingly the most blame when the offense doesn't. Meanwhile, Willy struggled against blitzes early in the season, there are still several OL struggling to maintain blocks consistently, and Brian Brohm flat out can't hit an open receiver. Anytime Willy gets hit we're reminded that MB's offenses have had QBs take a lot of hits. This is a valid criticism if applied correctly, but often I think here it isn't. For example, Tyler got blown backwards and beaten immediately on the play Willy got hit on. Other times Willy has failed to identify the direction of the blitz, resulting in a hit. None of this is on MB. Now, there have been times when we've reduced the protection in favour of spreading out the offense, and in some of these cases I think the criticism of getting his QB hit is warranted. The thing I'm most hoping for is Willy to stay healthy, because I think he can be outstanding in this offense. And if he isn't, then at least we have more film to work off of when fans are evaluating both Willy and MB. Having Brohm play is complicating the evaluation and probably providing a more negative outlook on this offense, in my opinion. I think Willy is the reason our offense does so well on the field more then MB system. I brought up Montreal because it's so obvious. But look what he did in Hamilton when he was OC or HC. Zippo. He runs such a vanilla offense and it's so predictable. And come on, look at our running game. It's terrible, and we have two really good RB's. His running plays are so lame everyone knows exactly what to look for. Not only that, but he completely abandons the run game half the time when he should be using it. Brohm goes out and the RB's never see the ball the rest of the game almost. Your second string goes out and is struggling, and instead of using all your weapons, you keep having him throw. It's like he just decided in his head "well we lost now that Willy is out, might as well give Brohm some practice reps". It blows my mind and I'm tired of watching it, it's pathetic.

I have three questions.... 1) Why do you need to carry around a gun? 2) Have you ever needed to use it to defend yourself and/or your loved ones/property? 3) Do you train regularly in use of your gun to maintain proficiency? (like the police and armed forces personnel do) 4) You may trust the gun in your holster, but I don't. And I don't trust half the psycho's out there who do.

There's always Tom Brady? And he can even play with deflated footballs.

Buck is too much like Marve. He probably wouldn't "learn the system". -
FYP Works either way.

Exactly, toss MB on his ass and maybe the system will start working for him.

At this point Dunigan would be an improvement at OC.

Team Losing Because Of Coaching Decisions

Oh come on. I don't think he's a great QB either, but saying he's coming off as a d-bag in that interview is pretty harsh. I mean really, if you were in his position you'd be saying whatever you need to say to keep yourself playing too. Everyone wants to play and wants a paycheck, no one is going to come out and say "oh hey, I suck at being a QB, they should put in the other guy instead". -

If I had Marcel telling me how to play QB, I wouldn't listen either. It's lucky then, that Willy has been listening, we have the 2 wins because he listened and Drew's numbers suggest it is the right thing to have done. Now imagine what he could accomplish with a real OC. -
You're not allowed to say that in every thread.

The media often reported that Etcheverry was O' Shea's mentor and friend. I stick to my original post. Anyone who doesn't think that the team has a long history of nepotism is barking up the wrong tree. It goes a long way to help explain the 25 year GC drought (soon to be 50 years unless something is done about the old boys club) and the last several years of utter futility. I'm not suggesting for one second that every single player and every single coach are part of some private self serving club. I am suggesting, however that very often key players and staff at key positions are often brought in based on friendship and loyalty and NOT necessarily on merit to the detriment of the entire team. Serna was Berry's boy and as a result the kicking game suffered. Etcheverry was O'Shea's boy hence the worst defence in the league, Brohm is Bellefeuille's boy, hence the total lack of depth at QB. All it takes is one single player in a key position (for example kicker, backup QB) who is there not on merit but on personal friendship and loyalty to ruin the party for everyone. Until the issue of nepotism in the organization is resolved once and for all, this team will continue on its path of futility lndefinitely. Phew, thanks for coming here and clarifying things for me.

I call BS. If that was the case. He would have been gone long ago. Not necessarily. If he's the best backup they could find, why let him go if another team might scoop him up? Just cause he doesn't listen, doesn't mean he isn't good in a pinch. -
