  1. Would love this. Ya, he's old. As long as we're not banking on him being a long term solution, we will be okay. The management and team seem intent on finding player to win now AND finding players for the future. Guys like Korey Banks aren't here to make us winners three years from now. O'Shea wants to compete immediately and to do that he needs a guy like McCune, who might not be great but could be good enough for a team with a gaping hole at MLB. I think there is a difference between wanting to win now and mortgaging the future to win now. I think we are in the former and not the latter category. If we were just signing a bunch of old guys, or killing our cap by signing them to big money and long term deals (thus limiting future signings of young players) I'd be more concerned. Some of the other additions the Bombers are banking on being long term solutions. No harm in trying to make the roster competition stronger for this season.
  2. If the league were smart they would offer a yearly streaming package for all CFL games, much like the other major sports leagues do. As for the current topic of this thread, I have no idea.
  3. The schedule has a real LOLCFL feel to it. Bye weeks for teams at the start and end of the season? Seriously? Usually the idea is for all the teams to be playing the last few weeks to create more hype for the casual fan.
  4. Went with a B+. Loved most of the moves, liked the rest.
  5. I hope we re-sign Foster and Matthews.
  6. I will never forget the time I saw him yell at Hefney for not participating in a special teams drill. Stewart was one of my favourites here, and I will miss him. He is a really good player. Underrated by some on this board.
  7. Our line was awful last year. I don't think I should be terribly concerned to leave one of the weaker parts of it leave. I would think they have a plan, since it doesn't seem like they wanted to keep him.
  8. The most overused statement on Bomber fan forums ever. Correction: Highlighting a portion of someone's post and then replying with an unfounded juvenile remark is actually the most over-used thing on this forum. That and Drew Willy penis jokes. But you're right, let's just cut Edwards after seven years of busting his ass and getting 1000 yard seasons out of crap QBs and OCs. Good plan, buddy... we all know that good players can't transition into good coaches. That's not what I said. But it seems like once a dude hits 5+ years tenure with a club, there are certain posters who just assume that player should transition to coaching. 'Certain posters' is actually the most overused term on this forum... JoLo and Edwards seem like they would be good coaches... don't remember suggesting anyone else. So, you don't think Edwards should be transitioned to a coach/mentor type of position...? Buck Pierce, Doug Brown, Milt Stegall...I'm probably missing a few more too.
  9. Feel like Banks is probably the most noticeable when it comes to salary vs. age and production. Willy's money isn't bad considering the situation (young QB, needy team, less than Collaros' deal) and unless I missed it I don't think Newman will be raking in the big bucks. Moore probably got a lot, but again, young productive receiver.
  10. You're right. There is no difference between judging people on their character, personality, judgement and poor management/writing and judging people based solely on elements of their humanity that they don't control like gender, race and sexuality. You can have sex changes, change your outward appearance and you can choose your sexual preferences at any time. Your points are invalid.Lots of people took personal shots at Kelly. How many fat jokes were cracked about Lawless. What Roberts and his personal life decisions we mocked in the past. Maybe he couldn't help chasing big girls and smoking all the time. in your world these people didn't choose to be the way they are. Hearty LOL at 'choosing sexual preferences.' Too funny.
  11. And Walters and O'Shea deserve a lot of credit for bringing in these guys. For as tough as it was to get a QB, showing that it was tough to make people think of Winnipeg as a favourable destination, we still landed several good players - even if we went about it by trade for some. The Kohlert signing should get more love here too. Everyone knew it was going to happen so maybe the lustre wore off but really, he was our most consistent Canadian receiver last year. If we had signed a similar player in FA maybe it would have gotten more attention. QB, WR, several DBs....not too shabby.
  12. I feel like Moore's not getting as much love as I thought he would here. Is he the third best receiver in the league? No. A single bulk yardage total isn't going to provide that answer, or at least not a definitive one. He's still a very good receiver and I'm guessing the Bombers think he's going to continue to produce and improve for them here. This is a guy heading towards his peak in the league. A 27 year old, proven, productive receiver with good size and speed for a roster that as a whole still is one of the weakest in the league. I like it a lot.
  13. I'd be happy if we signed Matt Carter. If we are serious about rolling out more Canadians at WR then we're gonna need to load up, especially with Watson consistently hurt.
  14. I think we're doing pretty well honestly if you look at the sum of the prior deals and now signings.
  15. I love how people convert "show respect to everyone, regardless of sexual preference" to "thought police" and "PC message." Does Bryant Turner deserve to be calling abusive terms because of the colour of his skin? Or is it okay to attack sexual preference but not race? I am also noticing what I think is an age-divide here, though I can't be sure. Can't say it reflects well on the older generation.
  16. Do we "need" veteran depth? I think an important different is between a need and want. I would love Glenn here for veteran depth, but its not like the team can't prosper without him. Sure it is less than ideal to not have a vet in the second spot, as we saw rotating QBs last year, but it is possible to make it work. What the Bombers need to consider is if (Glenn - draft pick) > (Hall/Other QB acquisition + remaining draft pick). I'm not sure the difference is so large that this is a 'need' for the Bombers.
  17. That's a high price tag. No way I am paying that much for a QB now that the Redblacks have deemed their QB stable excessive. Some other team can get robbed. I like Glenn, much more as a veteran backup than starter, and would only offer equivalent to that perspective.
  18. Love it. Randle, Banks, Bucknor - its clear Walters and O'Shea wanted to remake our secondary. I'd still re-sign Stewart but that probably won't happen now.
  19. I guess it depends what time frame we really focus on, personally I grew up with an 8 team league (with the Renegade blip) and now feel like an odd number is lopsided.
  20. I thought they all handled themselves well. I think they all just realize that the media in this town are lazy, uneducated (as in how it relates to the team) ****-disturbers. I loved when O'Shea jumped ahead of Willy and said he'd be the starting QB. He took control of the situation and just had a big smirk one his face, almost laughing at how he intended to get ahead of them. Of course Wiecek had to get his panties all in a bunch about it today, because these are the buffoons that are paid money to do a terrible job of covering the team.
  21. I am rooting for another team to go to the East, I don't particularly care which market (Quebec vs Halifax) but I hate 9 teams in the league. Either 8 or 10, gotta be balanced.
  22. I think the lack of excitement stems from clearly pursuing and then failing to land the first two guys we went after. I'm pretty excited for Willy, but I really wanted Collaros.
  23. To add onto this now, Penton says we're not considering trading for Glenn. (though I am assuming that isn't a finite decision)
  24. I'd actually avoid trading for Glenn now. We have Willy and I think we do everything we can to surround him with talent. Free agency, the draft, we want to give Willy the best chance to succeed. I don't want to give up an asset for Glenn then plunk Willy on the bench. I'd consider Glenn a target for our backup spot, if Ottawa wants us to toss them a late rounder or something inconsequential.
