CFL’s unique qualities complicate financial situation. Navigating any professional sports league through COVID-19 is an extremely challenging exercise, but the uniqueness of the Canadian Football League makes its current situation especially difficult. The CFL is in a bind because its business model relies primarily on gate, with television revenue a distant second. It’s the exact opposite of the NFL, which plans to play this summer – presumably with or without fans. Before the government provides any financial assistance, two very large questions are going to need to be answered.First, what amount of whatever assistance the government provides will go to players, in the likely event there is no season? And secondly, if money is going to the players, is it going to American players who reside mostly in the U.S., or just to players in Canada? To say there is a fair bit of emotion around both of those questions is putting it mildly. On the matter of the players being paid without there being a season, it’s important to note that roughly 20 per cent of 2020 player salaries have already been paid out in the form of off-season signing bonuses. So, in the event the players aren’t paid again for this season, some are going to come out better than others. https://www.tsn.ca/naylor-cfl-s-unique-qualities-complicate-financial-situation-1.1474899

Mike O’Shea took a few minutes Tuesday morning to step outside and look up at the sky as the Snowbirds flew a loop around Winnipeg as part of ‘Operation Inspiration.’“I was actually standing there waving up in the air,” began the Blue Bombers head coach with a chuckle during a Zoom call with bluebombers.com not long after the flyover.“I know they can’t see me, but I did it.”This is usually one of my favourite times, when the players show up,” said O’Shea. “It’s just watching the interactions between the players who haven’t seen each other from whenever everything wraps up and guys have a couple nights out after the season. And some guys take off right away.”I just have so much faith in the resiliency of the CFL and the people leading it that we’re going to manage to get this done,” O’Shea said. “It does me no good to think the other way.https://www.bluebombers.com/2020/05/12/believe-leagues-ability-unite-country/ -

Any truth to the rumour that the W.H. Is bringing in a psychiatrist who mirrors exactly what President Trump has accomplished in his presidency so far.? Of course that would be Dr Dolittle..

Exactly. So many strong performances. A pure delight to watch. All the more disappointing that we cannot witness what could have been this year.. -
Ticats’ Scott Mitchell breaks down financial impact of COVID-19; importance of playing CFL games in 2020Q: How do you explain the players not being represented in commissioner Randy Ambrosie’s presentation to the standing committee on finance?Mitchell: Our CBA didn’t deal with pandemics, so that’s the issue. The reality is that of course the players are going to be part of this, there’s no league without the players, and without a league there is nowhere for the players to play. Some of the rhetoric was unfortunate, the players a little bit more public about things, our method of operations is behind closed doors — there’s plenty of reasons why things happened the way they did. On a going forward basis we need to work together. The players are a fundamental part of the game, and there’s no way we’re going to be successful without both groups working together.👁🗨 Good questions and answers from Scott Mitchell https://3downnation.com/2020/05/12/ticats-scott-mitchell-breaks-down-financial-impact-of-covid-19-importance-of-playing-cfl-games-in-2020/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

GETTING TO KNOW JORDAN YOUNGERYounger is a highly respected member of O’Shea’s coaching staff not just because he knows his stuff, but because his experienced in the game – both as a player and an assistant – give him a well-rounded perspective. He even did a stint in 2014 as an analyst, working for both CFL.ca and TSN during their Grey Cup coverage.Over the years he’s also adapted and grown as a coach, taking bits and pieces from each head coach and defensive coordinator to hone his own way to deliver a message or a teaching point. And that – the ability to be flexible and open your eyes and ears to new ideas – has been critical.https://www.bluebombers.com/2020/05/11/getting-know-jordan-younger/ -

Nearly 2000 former DOJ officials sign letter calling on Barr to resign over his ‘assaults on the rule of law’The former officials also are urging the House Judiciary Committee to “demand that [Barr] answer for his abuses of power. We also call upon Congress to formally censure Attorney General Barr for his repeated assaults on the rule of law in doing the President’s personal bidding rather than acting in the public interest. Our democracy depends on a Department of Justice that acts as an independent arbiter of equal justice, not as an arm of the president’s political apparatus.”https://www.rawstory.com/2020/05/nearly-2000-former-doj-officials-sign-letter-calling-on-barr-to-resign-over-his-assaults-on-the-rule-of-law/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
