I don’t like the word bench. I do like the idea of playing McGuire. This game will mean virtually nothing, so let’s see what we have with a couple of changes. Not too many, because we have to give McGuire some weapons, but enough to rest some personnel.

Rios has over the top help coming up from Alexander. Having to cover the receiver, and expecting help, he is in position for coverage. Look again, that ball should never have been thrown. There is only one spot, one, that the ball could have been caught..and it was. Hell of a throw and catch.
-
I’m not blaming Rios at all on this play. Rios has coverage. That throw is beyond ridiculous. You can try that throw 10 times into that very tight space and not be successful. Not to mention a very good catch by the receiver. There is only one spot to throw that ball and Mitchell hit it. He’s a very good passer. Sometimes, the other teams make plays. This is one of those times.

Better yet, since you made the sweeping, general statement, you provide the details. I’m not about to compare Streveler to Mitchell, but to say he can’t put the football in tight spaces is incorrect. Ex. Short pass wide side to Whitehead 1st quarter. Pass was accurate on the inside, only Whitehead could catch it. Short pass to Lawler as Streveler rolled out. We gambled on third down and got the 1st down. Short pass to Whitehead, same quarter, hits him in stride, and he has blockers...drops the ball. Quick hitter to Bailey, right on target. Swing pass out to Demski, accurate to move to 3rd and inches. Final play of the 1st Q, Streveler rolls out to his left, hits Harris with a pass for a short gain. Tell me why all these plays don’t count for Streveler. These are the plays that were called and he executed. Very very similar to what Nichols does in the same type of offence. The difference being more running plays are called for Streveler as opposed to Nichols. Then the Lawler pass for a TD. That counts right? There are lots of examples if your open to them, but you’ve already made up your mind. Now I agree, Streveler’s accuracy for longer passes needs improvement, but he doesn’t get many called for him. So, I’ll be patient, and not write him off with LaPo directing his game.

Disputable...

Still hope? Well then, it’s only 28 years with no cup..

Hypothetically, if you put Streveler in Mitchell’s spot in that Calgary offence, do you not think he could hit those wide open receivers that Mitchell had?......Food for thought.

BLM was really on his passing game. Aside from the obvious open receivers, he put the ball where it had to be several times with deadly accuracy. That includes that TD pass that Rios was covering. Rios played that well but you can throw that ball a dozen times and not come close to a reception. Except tonight. Overall LaPo called a good game but some of his plays (ex. Screens) need to be chucked. Horrible designs. And so predictable. This game was like two big boys going at it, with the hometown favourite prevailing in the end. Smash mouth football with two good teams. But our D looked susceptible. That has to be fixed over the next game and bye week. Streveler was used..finally, and it paid off, but there is no way he should have gone back in to try and win the game. McGuire, the better passer, should have finished the game. Speaking of McGuire, he should start the next game, and I’m not kidding. Streveler is beat up and needs the rest. McGuire can finally have some game time in a game that essentially means nothing. We’re finishing 3rd so let’s see what we have at QB. Sent from my iPad

Point missed. But that’s ok, you have your own agenda. Were you ever a believer?

So, if you look at the facts, the Bombers had the best chance to finish first in the Western Division, even after those broken games where we held the lead. All they had to do was defeat a team they had played well against earlier in the year. That’s Saskatchewan. It seems they saved their worst game plan for that game. We were a first place team and there’s nothing to say we can’t finish first at the end of the year. But nobody’s saying it’s going to be easy.

D.Y.K. Winnipeg’s current run of four straight playoff appearances is the league’s second-best total. Bet nobody would have guessed that. Behind only the Stamps who clinched their 15th consecutive playoff appearance in Week 15. - Ed Tait

If you believe Rod Black and Duane Forde, it was just an off game for Vernon Adams last week. I mean, he threw 4 ints. It had nothing to do with a pressure Bomber defence, right?
-
Here’s what Streveler had to say about BLM: Bacon, lettuce and mayonnaise?

BLM on Streveler:

It would be simply charming..

Random CFL notes... - Half-time deficits have been an obstacle that Montreal has overcome this year. They have won 5 times when trailing at the half. - The Als have a current 3-game home win streak and have not had a 4-game winning home run since the end of 2014. - Toronto is 0-10 when trailing after the 3rd Quarter. They have one 4th Quarter comeback win however over Winnipeg (28-27). - The Alouettes are 7-5 in games decided in the last 3:00 and have the most late wins with their total of 7. - Will Stanback needs 46 yards officially to reach 1,000 this season and tops the CFL with 12 runs of 20+ yards (explosive plays). - Toronto cut their 2-&-Outs dramatically last week with a season-low of 1. They had 24 of them in their previous 3 games. - Montreal Penalties - First 8 games: 84 (10.5 per game); Last 7 games: 49 (7.0 per game). - Toronto did not allow a point off of a T/O last week. IN the previous 3 games they gave up 45 opponent points after T/Os. - Toronto has used more starters than any other CFL team in 2019 with 51. Next is Ottawa with 49 different starters. - At 87.1%, Boris Bede has his best FG mark since his rookie year (36-of-40 90% in 2015). He has made 13 in a row. - Cleyon Laing had 2 Sacks last week and now has 34 for his CFL career Saskatchewan 1-3 starts with most wins: 1956 10-6, 2017 10-8 & their best at 11-7 in 1993 after their 1-3 opening run. (In 2019 the Riders started 1-3 and are 9-2 since then) Saskatchewan Defence - In their 10 wins: 16.1 ppg allowed; In their 5 losses: 33.8 ppg allowed. BC's defence has allowed just 5 total points in the 1st Quarter over the last 7 games. Cody Fajardo has a solid chance to lead the CFL in passing yards in 2019. Last debut starter to lead CFL? Tony Adams in 1979. Saskatchewan Turnovers - In their 10 wins: 7; In their 5 losses: 12. Saskatchewan has been solid on 2nd down conversions. They have won that battle in 11 of their 15 games. Cody Fajardo has brought the threat of running out of the backfield after an initial dropback to pass The loss of Mike Reilly last week keeps at just 2 years since 2003 that they have had their #1 QB start all 18 games. (2011 Travis Lulay & 2016 Jonathon Jennings) BC has never had a season without at least one win vs the West. This year BC is 0-8 vs West Division teams. Solomon Elimimian can still reach 100 defensive tackles by averaging 9 per game. He has 3 previous 100+ seasons. Danny O'Brien will be making his first career QB Start this week, just the 5th by a BC Lion QB since 2012. Sent from my iPad

Not glamorous, but a rookie O-Lineman, Desjarlais, with so many starts for the Bombers, has got to be considered. Side note: quite a crop of rookies the Bombers have signed..

I’ve seen this, and I’ve read it too many times. A 28 year Grey Cup is bad enough, but to extend it to 29 years, and now 30 years is erroneous. If you want to round off something, try filing your fingernails..

Using this comparison, it’s almost like you don’t know what’s going on in the CFL. Khari’s done a good job but c’mon, Ottawa and Toronto in that division?? Fail.

I don’t think it’s that black and white. Streveler’s running ability is part of who he is as a QB. It’s part of his game. It could be very useful if used properly. And his passing abilities are only limited by what is called and a lack of experience. He has already shown he throws a nice ball and has used the pass and run to gain valuable yardage and 1st downs. People forget about the shorter completions Streveler throws and concentrate on the longer, flawed throws. That’s short-sighted. He has shown the propensity to learn and I look forward to his continual improvement. Yes, even on long balls downfield.
