  1. I wonder how many people think Ottawa scores so quick if Fogg hadn’t fallen?
  2. I agree. It’s the catch where Harris threw a wobbler that floated over the defender’s head and Ellingson had two hands on it but the tip of the ball clearly hit the turf when he came down, allowing even more security for the catch. Adam’s catch was ground bound too, so where’s the consistency? I didn’t think they would rule Ell’s catch a catch. They say he had more control of the ball, but really, who’s to judge that? If the ball hits the turf, it hits the turf, and judgment shouldn’t be involved in determining a catch like that.
  3. You could be right.. Let’s hope so..
  4. Geez, BC doesn’t need all this help..
  5. People are actually blaming MBThompson for the ragged play of the Argos?
  6. CFL Game #72 Team Notes – Toronto at BC:  Buono vs Trestman - Meeting #12: This game pits Head Coaches that are #1 and #16 in all-time victories. They have gone head-to-head 11 times before with Trestman leading 6 wins to 5. What is remarkable however is that neither has EVER swept the other in any season (1-1 MTL vs BC from '08 to '11; 1-1 TOR vs BC in '17). Trestman has a chance to do that this year leading the 2018 series 1-0. Wally Buono has 279 wins in his career and Marc Trestman is at 71.  Another DOUBLE BLUE pair: Over the last 3 games, Green and Edwards have more than doubled their productivity.  Bethel-Thompson 2-5: The last time MBT started, and won, was against BC. That was back on Aug 18/18 at BMO Field in a 24-23 Argos victory which featured an essential 4th Quarter game-winning drive of 73 yards on 12 plays. He has now lost 5 consecutive starts.  Toronto O-Line vs #1 BC Sack Attack: The Argos have allowed only 5 Sacks in the last 5 games. The Lions have MADE 21 Sacks in their last 5 games so this will be a key feature in this game. Toronto is #3 with just 24 Sacks allowed this year.  Jonathon Jennings 2-3: The Lions are 2-3 in games that he has started this year but have another win in which he came off the bench to replace Travis Lulay. Jennings is 3-2 in 5 starts vs Toronto and has won 11 of 21 starts at B.C. Place. Last week , he was held to 146 yards and threw 3+ INTs for the 6th time in his career.  Last 4 Argos' games: Toronto has allowed an average of 37 points per game over their last 4 contests - 42, 36, 30 & 38. The last time that Toronto allowed 30+ in 4 ore more games in a row was back in 2008.  7 Running back rushes: Last week the Lions ran the ball just 15 times, one less than their season-low of 14 (vs CGY on Aug 4/18). Of those 15 attempts last week, just 7 came from the Tailback position - the fewest runs from that position in 2018.  Split Season Series a habit: A win by BC would make it 6 years in a row that these two teams would have split the season series and that dates back to the last sweep in 2012 (by BC).  After Q1: The Lions are 3-1 if they have led after one Quarter this year but just 3-6 if they have trailed. Last week, they were outscored 20-0 in the opening Quarter at Hamilton, their largest 1st Quarter deficit since 2015 (Aug 15/15 at Hamilton 0-21).  Burnham feast or famine: The Lions all-star receiver has 5 games of at least 5 catches this season but also has 6 games of 3 or fewer receptions in 2018 (as he did last week). He has 10 of the Lions' 27 completions of throws 20+ yards downfield.  BC Home vs Road gap: The Lions come into this game with just one home loss (5-1) and one win on the road (1-6). That is a gap of +4 wins between home and away - a win this week would make that gap +5 and tie their high mark (2013: 8-1 at home, 3-6 on the road) and be one short of the CFL record of +6.  Toronto on the road: The Argos have lost their first 6 road games of the season for the first time since 1993.  3-1 September Record: Despite the loss last week, BC's 3-1 mark last month matched their best since going 5-0 in Sep 2011.  6 Sacks: Last week the Lions allowed 6 Sacks for the first time in over two years - August 25, 2016 vs Ottawa.  James Franklin: Has a TD in each of the last 4 games and in 10 of Toronto's 13 games.  Missing Wilder Jr.: In the 3 Argos' wins this year, Wilder averaged 95 rushing yards; in their 10 losses just 41 yards.  Bo Lokombo: Has a Sack in each of his last 3 games.  Chris Rainey: Is the only player to go over 2,000 combined yards this year and is #1 in kick return yards with 1,579.  Ty Long: The only FG miss that Long has in his last 8 games (22-of-23) was a blocked kick by Chip Cox in Montreal. _______________________________________________________________________________________
  7. Winnipeg takes a huge step towards a playoff spot..
  8. Calgary lost. Twice. The team collapsed. The D is part of their team.
  9. You can tell the professionalism of the broadcasters on TSN in last night’s game when, in overtime, in a critical marking of the ball on the sidelines, Rod and Duane did not even address this weird ball placement, but rather talked about how long the overtime was. They did not even mention O’Shea talking to the sideline official in disbelief. This was on 3rd down and the ball placement was important, but no, it was a long OT. You have to notice things like that..
  10. You know, it takes a certain amount of resolve to see a lead evaporate, no matter the circumstances, and come out on the field, score an OT TD, and 2point convert when momentum has shifted. The goal was to go into Ottawa and leave with 2 points. Mission accomplished!
  11. Matt Nichols 27/36 265 yards 3 TDs After being bed-ridden the day before..
  12. Nor should you have to rely on your QB making throws, or your receivers getting open, or tackling. What about tackling? I pretty well think you have to rely on your good players to put up good numbers. Bravo Medlock, Harris, Bighill, Adams and Nichols! A fun game to watch. BREATHE..
  13. W! Big win for the Blue tonight. We did what we had to do to win. Strong performance by Matt Nichols tonight. He was the leader we need him to be. 6 different receivers. Mixed play calling. (the only poor calls were at the 5 yard line with 2 passes...?!??) We got a good performance from our D tonight. Posters are complaining but basically, Ottawa had 3 downs at the end..to get 10 yards. Tough to defend in any scheme. And that ball placement at the tail end of the game. What the hell was that all about. That wasn’t even close. In the end the right team won. W!
  14. And that’s why they call him Adam Bighit..
  15. Derek Taylor reports: Top-15 in QB Pressures as we enter Week 17. @Wpg_BlueBombers @craigroh appears on the list after a very impressive last two weeks (7 pressures). Only @7Bowman and @sackatchawen (8) have more in that span. #Details #CFL
  16. QUICK SLANTS - CFL staff Blue Bombers: Drew Wolitarsky has 501 yards this season. The last Winnipeg rookie receiver to go over 500 yards was Chris Matthews in 2012. Weston Dressler’s reception streak is now at 122 games and last week he moved up to 704 catches. He needs three more to pass Rocky DiPietro (706) for 12th all-time. After securing sacks in nine of his first 10 games, Charleston Hughes cooled down from his torrid start, not recording a sack in three consecutive games. He recorded his first sack since Week 12 on Sunday versus Montreal. Johnny Manziel last week threw the ball just 16 times, the fewest by any CFL QB to play a complete game in 2018. Of his 16 passes, 10 were thrown deep downfield including his first two TD passes (20 yards to Ernest Jackson and 47 yards to Adarius Bowman). Roughriders quarterback Zach Collaros passed for 394 yards against Montreal. It marked the first time Collaros has passed for over 300 yards in Rider green and the first time he reached the benchmark since Week 4 last season. Winnipeg won a big game in Edmonton last week. Mike Reilly passed for only 164 yards in the game, marking the first time Reilly did not reach 200 yards since Week 10 last season versus Saskatchewan. Reilly was held without a touchdown (passing or rushing) last week and has a total of 39 (27 passing, 12 Rushing). Reilly is still on pace for 50 touchdowns and is seven rushing TDs short of tying the record for the most in a season with Mike Pringle (19). Reilly is four touchdowns short of surpassing his career-high (30) in a season. Argonauts quarterback James Franklin has rushed for 12 TDs this season and is currently tied with Reilly. New Brunswick native Mike Miller leads the league with 16 special teams tackles and now has 154 in his career (No. 12 all-time). He has at least one special teams tackle in 88 of his 136 games (65% of his appearances). In his last four games Alouettes veteran linebacker Chip Cox has 34 tackles, which moves him up to number four all-time with 961 tackles. Note: CFL tackles were counted officially starting in 1987. Ottawa’s William Powell has six games where he has rushed for 100+ yards this season, the most by any player since Jon Cornish had six in 2014 and nine in 2013. Justin Medlock has now made 53 converts in a row from 32 yards out. He has also made 135 of 136 convert attempts. Brad Sinopoli reached 1,000 yards for a fourth straight year, tying Ottawa’s record set by Tony Gabriel from 1975-1978. In their last three games, SJ Green and Armanti Edwards have 38 catches for 482 yards and two TDs combined. In the three games before that they had just 14 receptions for 268 yards and 1 TD collectively.
  17. Tap Hellebuyck for being instrumental in this win against St Louis - 12 saves alone on the PK and 41saves out of 42 shots in the game.
  18. Definition of going full lapo. : any of a certain number of non-aggressive plays designed by a Canadian Football League Offensive Co-Ordinator Paul LaPolice. Generally considered to be a thorough play designer guru, the term indicates the unwillingness to use an entire playbook in favour of safer, more restricted play calling. Using this basis for game calling in the CFL has led to predictability by opposing teams and frustration for the team’s fan base. The offence shows signs of being divergent and effective but that is often only a tease and reverts to lapoism. Kind of like the “hit the gopher” game. Shows up - then disappears.. *There may have been liberties taken in this definition and it may be hard to find in any known dictionary.
  19. I remember that block distinctly and thought it was BS that it didn’t count. However, they have since changed that rule and now that attempt would be counted as a fail. It’s not finished yet.. As follows: CFL Rulebook ... After reaching 29 in a row in 2013, Rene Paredes had one BLOCKED on July 20, 2013 by Montreal's John Bowman. By the rules of the day however (and that had been in place since 1967), no FG attempt was charged to Calgary since the ball did not cross the line of scrimmage. Paredes went on to extend his streak to 39 straight. The CFL changed the rule to start 2014 whereby any FG attempt that is blocked results in an 0-for-1 since a legal FG attempt was clearly attempted and was NOT successful. This rule will be re-visited in the 2018 off-season by our Rules Committee however with the proposal being that only the TEAM be charged with an attempt and NOT the kicker himself in these cases.
  20. CFL GAME NOTES: CFL Game #71 Team Notes – Winnipeg at Ottawa:  Lewis Ward 37 FGs in a row: Ward has not missed a FG attempt since the season opener and is now 40-for-41 97% with a streak of 37 makes in a row, the 2nd-longest streak ever made & longest within a single season. His 37 in a row is 2 back of Rene Paredes' 39 straight across 2012-13.  Brad Sinopoli: Recorded his 10th career 100-yard game last week and reached the 1,000-yard mark for a 4th straight year. he joined a club of just 21 players all-time that have made it to 1K in 4 consecutive seasons. Just one of those players before Sinopoli did it with Ottawa - Tony Gabriel in 1975-78.  Mike Miller 154 ST: Has pulled into a tie for the CFL lead in Special Teams Tackles with 16. The New Brunswick native is up to 154 in his career and that ranks him #12 all-time, 4 back of #11 Ray Biggs at 158 and 7 short of the Top 10. Miller has recorded at least one ST Tackle in 88 of his 136 career games - a remarkable 65% of his appearances.  William Powell 100+: Leads the CFL in rushing, something no Ottawa player has done since Orville Lee in 1988. He has 6 games of 100+ yards, the first since Jon Cornish in 2014 with 6 or more. The last player with 7 or more 100's was Cornish in 2013. In 2018 when Powell has rushed for 100+ yards the REDBLACKS are 5-1.  Consecutive 32-yard Converts: Since the 2015 move of the 1-point convert kick out to 32 yards, none have been better than Justin Medlock of late. He is a perfect 44-of-44 in 2018 and has now made 53 in a row from 32 yards. The longest streaks including Medlock's CFL record of 82 in a row from the 32-yard distance from 2015 to 2017.  Adam Bighill: With 592 defensive tackles he needs 8 for 600 and 10 to tie Singor Mobley for #17 all-time. Bighill will make his 100th career start.  Medlock Inside the 10: Justin Medlock had just one punt inside the 10 in the first 7 games; he has 11 in his last 7 games however to lead the CFL with a career-high of 12 in total. He has a current streak of 5 straight games with at least one.  Matt Nichols 80%: Threw just one pass deeper than 20+ yards last week but was 13-for-14 on attempts of 9 yards or less. he has won his last two starts after a 4-game slide, the longest streak of losing starts in his entire CFL career. Last week he completed 80% of his passes - that matched his career best set originally on Aug 17/17 (32/40).  Ottawa Playoff Position: The REDBLACKS can clinch a playoff spot with a win or tie this week and that would make it 4 years in a row. That would be their second-longest playoff run since 1983 - their 1990-94 run was accomplished without a single year above .500. A win also clinches a .500 record for the first time since 2015 (8-9-1 in the last two years).  128 / 30%: The Bombers have 128 of their 426 points off Opponent T/Os - at 30% of their total it is the highest % in the CFL.  Discipline: The Bombers are the least penalized team in the CFL at just 56 yards per game and 7.3 penalty calls (incl. declined).  Off a Bye This Week: The REDBLACKS have gone 4-6 off a bye week since joining the CFL in 2014.  Andrew Harris: Caught 4 passes last week and extended his consecutive game streak to 41 in a row with at least one catch.  Trevor Harris: Has only 18 completions of 30+ yards but 6 have come in the last two games. He ranks #4 in the CFL.  Turnovers Forced: Winnipeg leads with 39 Takeaways including 7 last week, their 2nd game of 2018 with as many as 7.  Drew Wolitarsky: Went over 500 yards last week - the first Winnipeg rookie receiver to do that since Chris Matthews in 2012.  Rushing Lead: William Powell has a game in hand but a lead of just 40 yards on Andrew Harris heading into this game.  Brandon Alexander: Recorded both an interception and a fumble recovery last week as part of Winnipeg's 7 Takeaways.  Craig Roh: Has risen to #8 in the CFL with 7 Sacks on the back of 4 in his last 2 games.  10+ ST Tackles: The Bombers have a remarkable 6 players with at least 10 ST Tackles this season. _______________________________________________________________________________________
